+AESCULAPTORmark3 Yeah that's good, but unfortunately the road got a bit bright. Didn't have a proper mount here so it was a bit hard to get it right, check out my latest video from the Anders Grøndal test as well :)
Everybody saying it takes balls of steel to be a rally driver, but what about the co-driver? I think it takes steelier balls to put your trust, life and wellbeing in another person's hands.
Best onboard in a long time - truly shows the courage and skill of these drivers. I love the wide angle, seeing the driver's hands and feet and the co-driver's notes while at the same time having a great view of the road. Excellent!
I have the deepest respect for rally drivers. This driving here is insanely brutal. And props to the co driver. I can't even read a book while in a car going straight. Feeling sick after a few seconds :D
Wow just wow thank God things like this are allowed to be. These to guys dreams in this life came true and are made alive. I can’t imagine the amazing feelings they must feel doing this. The absolute glory And bliss
Thanks! I was supposed to have better sound here but my GP3 was suddenly out of battery so picture is from a GP2 and sound is from the GP1 on the a-pillar. The GP2 was connected to the intercom which dampens the sound a lot ski tried it like this instead.
Joe Dupuie mugglerider Just using the clutch in the lower gears to save the gearbox a little since it was a borrowed car on a low budget, they normally drove a Fiesta R2 at this point but moved up to a Fiesta R5 the next year.
Tor Andre Børresen Thanks for the info (both of you :). So it wouldn't be necessary to use clutch, but they try not to use the gearbox too hard. Good luck for the R5...we are waiting for great onboards ;)
+Tor Andre Børresen wait, do they have a double clutch or so? i dont know that much about it :3, but how come they only have to use the clutch in the low gears? :3
I wonder how much slower would you go without navigator, I mean the feeling of speed from this on board camera view is insane compared to the viewers perspective
can someone tell me why he flicks the wheel during braking/downshifting? is that just him countering the feedback from the wheel? or is it something with that car in particular. great run by the way, thanks for uploading :)
The thing about rally is that when you've gotten the basics mastered and have developed a technique it mostly comes down to feel when driving the car which means he is doing it automatically without thinking, the subconscious takes over and uses muscle memory to make judgments. His hands moving as fast as they are and erratically is typical for fast stages with loose surfaces or portholes. His body will be perceiving tyre slip so his hands subconsciously move to correct it through the learned behaviour. To answer your question: when he brakes, the car will automatically begin to oversteer (fishtail) because the rear tyres have lesser load on them than the fronts and they can pivot more freely in the gravel, he is fighting to correct the car and is keeping it from spinning out. If you watch tarmac rallies you will notice that this doesn't happen as much because the grip type is different and its all about being smooth - the road doesn't pull at the wheels and you are sliding much less meaning no need for corrections
And it's not rigged to the core like f1 is. If it's not Mercedes winning the fia dont get their money -.- rally is wayy better honestly. More talented drivers too
I could drive , even for 10hours . . but I'm not guarantee i can drive like this , it's to rare for normal driver to drive like this. . . appreciated to them. . . my heart feels a live 😅😅
I have a question for someone who knows rally cars. So obviously this is a sequential shifter. But why do drivers still use the clutch from 1st to 2nd to 3rd gear? Shouldn't the clutch only really be needed for launch and hairpin turns?
@@TorAndreBrresen thanks for the reply! Also, do you have more videos like this (onboard, with the camera in that position?). This video is the best rally onboard video I've seen! Only the car noises, seeing the gestures while driving, etc, it's so awesome and immersive!
The car itself won't break if he doesn't, but there is so much torque on these gears that if you don't clutch in you'll get a kick in the back. Probably better for traction as well.
At the beginning, he is using a clutch to change gears 1 - 2 - 3 in a sequential gearbox. That interesting, I've never noticed it at other drivers. Except for start and stop the car. Probably it gives more power for wheels. I guess.
My understanding is that this is actually done because the gears are "straight cut" and this is a "dogbox" transmission. A quick lift of the throttle or quick clutch depression in low gears helps to make gear changes easier. www.superstreetonline.com/how-to/transmission-drivetrain/impp-1109-synchromesh-vs-dog-box www.carthrottle.com/post/the-advantages-and-disadvantages-of-straight-cut-gears/
One is driving fast (probably has an important meeting) while the other studies for his exam minutes before it starts and before the driver drops him at college for it.
Write please is it hard to rotate the steering wheel on this car, do you need a lot of effort? Very interesting is the difference in effort with game steering wheels for car simulators.
Rallying is definitely an art

I never noticed any problems with this video. Looks spot on to me.
Thanks, i will go check out your other vid.
+AESCULAPTORmark3 I managed to adjust it slightly so it's ok :)
Everybody saying it takes balls of steel to be a rally driver, but what about the co-driver? I think it takes steelier balls to put your trust, life and wellbeing in another person's hands.
Takes a lot of trust! You'd need to be good friends with the driver lolol
Titanium
No, you only have to be suicidal. Suicidal coward can be a good co-driver.
I'd rather read a book, then see the narrowest roads in the world whipping past me at 200 kph.
instablaster.

Most insane rally driver I have ever seen. Such skill and such grace
Watch some group b onboard. Those guys are crazy.
Even after all theses years, still the best onboard video EVER
And It's only a GP2 taped to the seat and sound from a GP1 😅

This is a really well made onboard. I would consider this WRC quality onboard.
Thanks! Didn't have the gopro app to adjust it properly, or a proper rollecage mount
Absolutely awesome video. Love this style of onboard footage.
i need to play dirt rally after watching this
but with clutch and stickshift and a car from 90s lol
The best onboard I've ever seen!

Thanks! Camera pointed slightly too low so the road is a bit too bright though. Using the GOPRO app now so easier to set it up properly :)
This discipline had always been awesome.
This is why I loved ford fiesta
Thanks for the ride.....that was fun
Glad you enjoyed it!
Watched this twice. One out the front window and one watching just the feet.
This driver got skills....great video
Love the shots from rear camera!
When you study the exam notes on the way to the examination centre. 😛
....still the best onboard video ever

WRC needs to watch and learn enough of the dashboard view crap. This is how an onboard should look like!

Que calidad de manejo, es increíble la agilidad 😲👌
Footwork, handwork, brainwork, all in one
i dont think there is a crazyest sport than this
Great onboard, thanks.
But a question: why is it necessary to use clutch to shift 3rd after the left hairpin at 1:44?
mugglerider to keep the engine higher in the powerband.
mugglerider after rewatching it again, he appears to be just respooling the turbo, it looks mor elike a clutch blip

Very impressive driving!
Pro rally drivers make it look easy. But i guess if you've been doing this for several years things would be intuitive and natural.

There are actually some cars with sequential gearbox
Fantastic 😀
3:37 wow
This is what my dad do when I'm late for my test and is still studying for it.

Why is he using clutch for 1 and 2 gears ?

Left one: actual me studying right one: when im day dreaming
Where 2016? do you have?
Que adrenalina manejar así !!!
Why aren't padle shifters use in rally? Wouldnt that be more comfortable and accurate? Thanks!
There is on the WRC cars now, not on R5. I think it came back in 2014 or something, just from 2011-14 had stick

My wrists hurt just looking at this!
Any Idea of the average 'max' speed they were in those longs 6th gear ?
Not sure of the top speed on this one, but close to 200 kph normally
180-190 kph
nice love wrc
very nice , on the edge all the time .....
Could someone tell me what the passenger exactly doing ? what is his job in the rally ?
He tells the driver how tight the turns coming up are (by telling him gear numbers e.g "right 3"), any bumps/crests, if the turns tighten or open, etc
I wish i could get to work this fast# hate traffic rush hour!!
Herlig video.
Staggering!

The car itself won't break if he doesn't, but there is so much torque on these gears that if you don't clutch in you'll get a kick in the back. Probably better for traction as well.
For sequential transmissions it’s not required to use a clutch after takeoff
Really fighting with this car
Brad Griffith note he fights with it and not against it
Little bit nervous as it was the first rally in a borrowed WRC worth 400-500.000€ so not full attack on the mini rally
My jaw is on the floor maaaaaan
Would be better if we heard the navigator all the way. His timing and precision is essential.
Pretty sure it wouldn't have got 412.000 views without the more raw sound, shame i didn't have an external mic. So you know Norwegian? :)

Porque pisa el embrague en algunas marchas??
One is driving fast (probably has an important meeting) while the other studies for his exam minutes before it starts and before the driver drops him at college for it.
Why do you occasionally step on the clutch on some gears?
i think it's faster without clutch, but the gear's lifespan will be longer with clutch.
ZPERO he uses in low gears only (2nd and 3t). It "helps" to change softer.
Write please is it hard to rotate the steering wheel on this car, do you need a lot of effort? Very interesting is the difference in effort with game steering wheels for car simulators.
Sweet driving
Very!
Excellent
anyone can explain me how this clutch works? because i see the driver didn't push the clutch everytime
No need to use clutch after start normally, it just has a ignition cut when you change gear with the sequential gear box
What happened to minimum steering input?
THAT CORGI First time in a borrowed 450.000€ WRC so it's allowed to be a bit nervous
Its easier to lose control when you steer so much because you're rapidly switching centre of gravity
That could be, that's more on tarmac though
Tor Andre Børresen yeah but when you jerk the steering like that it can cause understeer
did you even watch the video? im sure this dude knows a thing a two about how to drive a rally car. please stop making yourself look stupid.
