- Will people leave you or abandon you if you are going through a time of adversity?
This adversity could be in form of an illness you may have or it could be any major changes you are going through.

I went through something similar to yourself - I had a huge ulcerative colitis flare up, became dangerously underweight and had emergency surgery to remove my colon. Sadly this was in September during lockdown so I was very isolated. I was looking forward to seeing my boyfriend when I got out of hospital, and a few days later he left. It was the most challenging time and I feel I’m still emotionally recovering. Some relationships ended, some were strengthened and new ones formed. I think your perspective is so healthy - some people are not ready to go through something this challenging, but the ones that can will come to the front and will show up for you. If people can’t cope and have to leave, it isn’t their fault, that’s just where they’re at. It’s a really hard lesson to learn but ultimately it’s better for both parties. Still getting my head around it all. Thanks so much for the videos and for articulating this all so well.
What a great video. I have been through cancer.... some people left me ... some stayed with me ... I have now changed so much ... even I find it hard to believe ... but I feel now FREEDOM. Thank you for your precious thoughts.

I can’t get my head around this. If any of my family were ill, I would be by their side looking after them. Sorry to hear about what happened to you.

I would agree and say ‘people with depth’ is one of these skills. It takes a degree of development and skills to have depth as a person
It is just an excuse. Ironically, I went through the same injury my girlfriend had been through 3 years ago and could not walk. She was a seasoned veteran in this, so you would think she could empathize, right?
WRONG! She cut out so fast it made my head spin. And when I got better, magically, she came back! Can you guess what happened next? I rebroke that bone and WTF is she now?
I’m trying to figure out if she’s a sociopath or just a user. I don’t buy into the concept of fairweather lovers. This is someone who repeatedly proclaims to love me beyond the depths of human perception... That doesn’t seem like love to me, but then again WHAT IS LOVE?
I cannot relate to this type of behavior. About five years ago, my ex-girlfriend and I had lost the magic, but when she got hit by a car, I took off work and instantly went into caretaker mode. I felt it was my moral responsibility to do everything I can to help this person be happy and nurture her back to health, even though we were on the verge of breaking up.
Some people just don’t have that, and they look at other human beings as a means to their end. These people like to use others for their advantage until they are broken and move onto the next person because they are not valuable when they have nothing to give. They don’t even like the decency to try and rebuild that person.

I know the awful feeling of being abandoned in sickness, when you need someone the most. But I thought I might add - in your specific case your girlfriend disappearing could be due to PTSD symptoms. Because she really can empathize but cannot tolerate the pain, because it is her own pain and she is not over it yet. Avoidance of the situation that scares you the most. I don't know if this could be the case for her.
I have a very small number of friends who have been there for me through tough times. I have had some friends leave when I faced adversity and I agree that they didn’t have the coping skills but I realized I don’t want fair weather friends. Now the friends who were not there for me are still acquaintances but we don’t hang out anymore. I don’t have room in my life for people who only show up for dinner at a restaurant but won’t offer any emotional support during trying times.
So true. You only really want the true friends anyway. ❤️

I believe it depends on the people you have next to you. Life is full of suprises. There is nowhere written that life will always be full of roses. You get tested more in the worst senarios in life rather than the better ones. We do not give up on people we love no matter what. We stay to support and give love and affection to them. Leaving is weakness and emptyness. So they are better off...

So how if you are boyfriend his ill then he say it over I can’t be with you anymore because am ill i can’t do anything for you and you agree to be with him even he ill still he don’t want to be with you what can you do you still love him and he don’t want to you because he sick Leukemia disease ? You find him no respond when he respond he say please try to forgive and forget me i can’t be with because Am sick I can’t give you good life all in all he said still you I told him don’t worry about me agree to be with you for any situation still he can’t :(
He feels less of a man because his sickness prevents him from being able to take care of you. The relationship ruins his self esteem. I say still try to be there for him however you can
