Tokyo is all you need. I have a kansai accent (specifically south osaka) and im trying to make myself sound like im from tokyo. Some people just cant comprehend kansai accents so. When learning japanese its always gokd to start with tokyo because its the most grammatically correct :)
I like the South Oosaka. It's so badass. It reminds me to one dialect of my native language. In Javanese, Solo dialect is cute as Tokyo, and in Jombang dialect, esp. Sumobito is fast as South Osaka, I am is from Jombang. When my mother angry to me, I didn't understand what actually she says.
As a Foreigner I consider all is sounding like japanese of course. But there are notable differences in how sentences and words are built up and more how things are spoken out (the Tones or the sequence of high and low Tones seem to be quite different among the Dialects)

I always wish that for this kind of accent comparison video, there is a universal sentence that is then spoken in the many different accents. Something like a verbal version of "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog", if you get my gist. Such a universal sentence spoken in different accents I believe will help pinpoint the differences between the many different accents. As it is right now, just about the only obvious thing is that some accents are faster or slower, but it's extremely difficult to tell is an accent pronounces R sounds or if an accent is prone to using certain vowel sound such as "a" etc. But thanks for the video regardless. Too many animes I watch seem to speak only Tokyo, so this is a good start in learning about the other accents.

But from what l know of l think native Nara people actually speak rather slow, I'd say more likely to be Kyoto people. My dialects are mainly Osaka', but l can also speak a bit of Hiroshima', Nara, and Fukui'. I'm also fluent in Tokyo'. I remember my grandma in okinawa and my mom using a lot of descriptive words in uchinaguchi which I thought was standard japanese for a long time

I won't be able to pick up much differences since I'm Thai and can only talk little Japanese.But Tottori dialect is so cute and difficult to understand,but I'll be travel to Tottori soon,wish me luck!

This is so interesting! I had no idea! Chinese has 200 most people dont know that either. But I had no idea there were other dialects other than Okinawan. I only recognize a few of them. I live in NYC. We used to have a Japantown until 911 now Japanese are spread out. Really great job!
Osaka dialect like one of the dialects of the Javanese language namely the Ngapak dialect. fast pronunciation, high intonation at the end of the sentence. Sometimes it makes me laugh.
