I can relate. I have a fairly nonsensical blog where I post random shit on Tumblr - I mostly use the platform because it's fairly easy to customize - but it really does expose you to desperate fans who just won't let a franchise die.
I came into the Potterverse a little on the late side, so I was more prone to seeing the criticisms - and later on, JKR's own problems - in some scenarios, rather than idolizing the work. It just makes it all the more baffling when you end up with so-called "reality shifters" who swear up and down that they can enter this parallel universe where an adult Draco Malfoy's had three kids with them. They're so convinced of that notion that normal dreams that don't pack certain Potter-themed lucid dreaming components freak them out. "I can't shift to Hogwarts anymore" is a sentence I've seen in some blog replies, typed by actual flesh-and-blood humans.
And I'm just thankful that "reality shifting" never became a thing in the days of Jack the Ripper or even Anne Rice's initial first few years of fame... I'm all for having a vivid imagination if that helps you transpose fun things to a page or a canvas or sketching pad, but defining your entire sense of Self in accordance with the themes of a corporate-owned setting is incredibly sad.

If it was decently written (tall order for fan fiction, I know), I’d read it. It just raises so many questions. How did Harry end up there? Are we to assume he used that hourglass thing to go back to the 1800s? If so, did he have to go to the insane trouble of turning it over again and again for such a long trip back (it’d take so long to turn it that he might have to factor that time in as well)? Did he use floo powder to get to America? WHY did he go on this weird trip? Does he have to avoid changing the past, or can he use his magic to help Harriet free the slaves?
@@TBustah when Harry went to past to see the patronus that saved him and it turned out it was time traveling Harry who did it kinda implies whatever they do in the past is like already fated to happen.
As to the spinning amd getting to America maybe the rapid spinning is a malfunction and the teleport is part of that. Like something hits it to start it spinning on its own indefinitely before they can stop it and since they went back so far the position of the Earth was different enough to move them over that far or some other vague thing like that
@@bluecanine3374 Actually, the entire galaxy moves through space as everything revolves around its center. Basically, imagine a spinning top on an elevator as it goes up. So, Harry would probably be sent to the point in space where the planet was in the present but hadn’t arrived yet in the past if the device worked like that. Even if the center of the galaxy were stationary and nothing moved on its Z axis, don’t forget that the Earth revolves around the sun. If he left at one part of the year in the present and arrived too much earlier or too much later in the year in the past, there’d still be no Earth for him to land on. Either way you slice it, Harry would most likely be suffocating in the vacuum of space rather than being transported to America, but you’ve got an interesting idea there.
I’ve wondered how to solve this very problem for a time travel story I’m writing (rest assured, it’s not any sort of fan fiction), and have kicked around the idea of exploiting Einstein’s theory about gravity stretching time. Maybe gravity would still have a hold on you as you traveled through time, keeping you in more or less the same point in the physical space. The fire trails left by the Delorean in BTTF kind of imply something like this. I don’t know enough of the science to know if this idea would even hold up, but it’s a comedy, so I can always play it for laughs. It was more of a play on words to begin with anyway.

Of course, untrained wizards blowing themselves up during a meltdown makes sense in universe, as magic is clearly dependant on emotion. It's never explicitly addressed in the books except for the unforgivable curses, but its present from chapter 2 of the first book.
A meltdown feels like your very being is self destructing, so magic taking its cue from that seems logical.

I know that this has been pointed out, but not only have these guy's dissed a certain part of the fan base, but also had managed to call out the entirety of the special education system.
I was friends with a deaf girl who went to special ed classes for subjects like math and english, but was with the regular class for things like PE and art, and it wasnt hard to see that special ed really does make it harder for the higher functioning students to realize their full potential. They are viewed as complete morons, talked down to, and not allowed to work on their own, and its sad to see.
