They're focusing on the wrong things, childless wedding is totally up to them, however, the systematic exclusion of her kid and her sister's attitude towards them IS the problem and should be stated AS the problem.
well you and op need to learn not everyone likes you nasty ass brats period. and have a right to do a child free wedding. the world does not revolve around you and your brats
Melissa has resented Ethan from the day he was born. She has been spiteful about Ethan and makes no secret of the fact that she dislikes him. If Ethan isn't welcome, then OP shouldn't attend Melissa's wedding. OP needs to avoid any events where Melissa will be present. Melissa is hurting Ethan and OP should cut ties with her before she does more psychological damage to Ethan than she has already.
The real issue isn't really the wedding. It's Melissa's treatment of Ethan since OP was pregnant. She has gone above and beyond to exclude him over the years, and the wedding was just the straw that broke the camel's back.
I get the distinct feeling that Melissa will want to play aunt and have Ethan babysit her own little "mistake" if and when she's pregnant down the road.
Sounds like Ethan either had a disfigurement (unlikely), was of a completely different race than the rest of the family, or is just the child of the man the sister had a secret love for. If OP's sister was just secretly racist and just despised the kid for the color of his skin or the features of his face then oof, not much you can do about that ever. Though that theory is still unlikely, she would have had a history of such behavior. The other theory is equally as unlikely as OP's boyfriend was assumedly a minor relationship, I doubt the sister would develop a massive crush, and she would show resentment towards OP instead of the child. Maybe the simplest answers are the most correct, she just hates Ethan for no reason, not kids in particular, just Ethan. Why? The world may never know.
AI story. The second she started talking about "navigating this situation" also the whole "the family we choose is more important than the family we're born into" and so on. So many tells. I should write a bingo card.
I actually blame OP's parents more than Melissa. Sure the sister is a selfish AH, but s'éteint how the parents behave is heartbreaking. It's their daughter and their grandson and they obviously don't care at all... It's just a day... Exactly say that to Melissa. I personally would go NC with those 3 idiots. I'm childfree and not a huge fan of kids, but I'd never exclude a child like that. He's family and should be the exception. They're all idiots. Absolutely NC, the parents are only on her side after the wedding because everyone was on OP's side.

Anyone who treats my child like this would be gone from my life in a heartbeat.
They keep making an excuse saying “just do it for the family”.. Ethan is family as well.

I think if Melissa hadnt called ethan a mistake, and her prior actions of excluding ethan the email would have been appropriate.
Sorta? It’s still kinda weird to just send that in an email like it’s nothing.
Melissa is the one destroying the family. Selfish, snobby woman.
I think Melissa can't have children, or she is jealous that her sister wanted to have children before her sister.

family shouldnt make you need to stay in contact with people. if people r assholes then dont have anything to do with them
trying to keep the piece ruins familys
I don’t get it? Is it that Ethan is the only one or is it all kids? What’s so bad about a childless wedding

Tell sister.....no kids no problem.....ignore nosy people.
Wait, why did she have a placement card for Ethan if he wasn’t invited?
Melissa is either infertile or jealous of Op. This doesn't make any sense. The story is incomplete.

I think Melissa is jealous of Ethan it has to be because why is she acting like that
Hder sister refers to Ethan as a mistake. Screw her wedding take ethan to an amusement park
