    Your teaching of how to do the celtic pattern for an afghan is THEE BEST I have ever seen. Believe me, I looked for many hours & weeks & happened to finally get so fortunate to find your video. You made something look easy that others make look so very difficult and confusing. I appreciate how descriptive you are while you work, and not be boring. Thank you so much.

    Oh my goodness Mikey, if you were in arms reach I would give you the biggest hug you ever had.. I used to love this stitch, when I knitted Aran, but had to stop knitting due to painful arms hand and shoulders, have tried other tutorials, on Crochet Cabels. which not only complicated an with all the twisting of work hurt even more, however I have followed your Tutorial, an now can Crochet Cabels, I carried on pass your repeat rows, and have successfully managed to keep pattern intact.so Thank you a Million Zillion times.. now will be making Aran's Tops an Cardigans for grand kids again.

    After looking at so very many videos on this type of pattern, this is the best described video I have seen. This guy makes it look easy and it is not near at complicated as all the others I have spent hours looking at. I love the way he explains how to do this stitch/pattern. I appreciate his way of explaining and showing each and every step. Thank you more than I can say. You are a god send. As I stated, I love this pattern and now I am able to do this now that I have found our video. Thank you so much.

    Mikey. Just wanted to say BIG THANK YOU for your great tutorials for crochet. I'm still after 2 years learning. Tried lots of videos on RUclips. Yours is the best, your easy to understand and follow . Many I've tried, I can't understand what it is they are actually saying I'm meaning that your native spoken English is perfect. I understand many do their tutorials in their native toughie, however, several who's language is English can hardly string a decent sentence together never mind do a tutorial for others to learn from. Thank you Mikey. Lj x

  • @marigeobrien

    Awesome! You have So simplified this stitch! I, too, could not stand the existing instructions for cables. Thank you!
    Just one question. Between the cables, why do you do 3 FPDC, then 3 regular DC? Is that the pattern? I mean, shouldn't it be 3 DC, 3 FPDC, 3 DC so it's even?

    • @marigeobrien
      @marigeobrien 7 лет назад +2

      Follow up: Okay. After working this stitch (and many failed attempts to try to work this stitch), I found that there is a distinct learning curve. I am well versed at FP- and BPDC but I still found this very difficult. Mostly, the cable itself. I have tried to do it about 12 times-- all were dismal failures.
      So, I decided to take baby steps. When you're learning something difficult (it was for me; for you it may be easy), this is often a good idea.
      First, I used an over sized hook for the yarn, which made it much easier to provide ample room to work and see what I was doing. Once I know this stitch better, I'm sure I will be able to use smaller hooks and lighter yarn, but for now, this is best.
      Second, I found the key on this stitch is, when doing the return row (working on the back), to really identify those 2nd set of 3 stitches properly.
      Remember, you work straight across on the return row. But I kept losing that 4th stitch of the cable-- because it's so twisted, especially with the first of cables. You really have to pull things around to make them twist back again. I am still practicing but, as I work it, I am finding clues to look for -- that's why practicing helps so much.
      Third, I chose a project that isn't too big but still allows for plenty of practice. I am making a place mat to put under my cat's dishes which is about 16 inches wide and about 24 inches high. In this, I have 5 cables that I'm working. Since it's only for the cat's bowls, if it doesn't come out great, it's okay. And I'm sure I'll have the stitch down by the time I'm done.
      When I first started doing FP- BPDC, like many, I struggled with the BPDC. I had a hat pattern that is basically a combination of the two and could manage it but it was very difficult. Well, not anymore.
      Since then I've done about a dozen of those hats and have also made several afghans with the waffle pattern, plus a floor rug with the basket weave-- all of which use the FP/BPDC exclusively. (By the way, with the basket weave stitch, you don't need to double the yarn for a floor rug, as you normally do.)
      All this taught me that when a stitch is difficult, to take the extra time to practice/master it before using it on a major project. It will make you happier when you pick up your hook to do something really special. ;)

      The multiples are 12 chs +5. So, 12, 12, 12 and how many 12's you want to do. When satisfied with the length, add the 5 chains for the balance.
