    Fun fact! This is one of if not the most realistic scenes for ICBM reentry from orbit. The warheads, usually a few megatons, or over 1,000,000 tons of tnt in equivalency, detach from a “BUS” and rapidly start to descend, usually reaching speeds of Mach 23 or 25 at maximum, and detonating just before hitting the waterline or ground.

    • @andrewbrown3156
      @andrewbrown3156 5 месяцев назад +4

      Not necessarily. You are correct assuming the warhead remains unarmed at the point of interception. In this scenario it is highly likely that the warhead was armed for detonation when the bus separated at sub orbital altitude. In that scenario, the intercept would detonate the warhead.

      @@jenniferkeates no, a thermonuclear warhead from a reentry vehicle detonated mid air will not creat super waves as far as i know, the shock wave will destroy alot of the mast and radars of the ship if close enough
      Also usually ships are deployed on battle groups, so thie AEGIS destroyer will not be alone, not to mention it will launch multiple SM-6 interceptors at the reentry vehicle, and the fact that if the north korean arent stupid in real life they will fire multiple missiles in order to saturate the Japanese/korean/US air defences and in order to cover as much area as this IRBM can't hit moving targets like the DF-21D
      Also how do the koreans detect the ship in order to know its there, its beyond their radar range iirc, so unless they detect it by its own radar emissions ( not sure its possible from that distance) they gotta have satallites or air asserts or submarines to detect it or are getting outside intel help from china(oh NVM just watched the entier scene its by china)

    • @Boomkokogamez
      @Boomkokogamez 2 года назад

      Yes, all modern destroyers has Nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) to washdown the ship. Considering the Nuke detonated at higher altitude and was maybe low yield, there shouldn't be any tsunami waves.

    • @smuganimeface6247
      @smuganimeface6247 Год назад +26

      It would of been fine. Far enough way from the detonation to be out of range of the thermal pulse, maybe it could have had its masts damaged and windows broken from the shockwave but otherwise it'd be completely fine. The crew might have temporary flash blindness if there was anyone looking in the direction of the incoming warhead.

    • @tortenschachtel9498
      @tortenschachtel9498 5 месяцев назад +2

      Depends on the size of the warhead and the distance of the explosion. Interception seemed to have occurred well above 10 kilometers. North Korea allegedly has a warhead of 250 kilotons, according to a blast wave calculator from MIT that could shatter windows at a distance of just over 10 kilometers from the explosion. If a ships windows are not stronger than regular windows in your house this could lead to shattered windows and related injuries, but otherwise it shouldn't cause much damage. There is a high likelihood for first-degree burns for anyone with a direct line of sight to the fireball, though
      Note: The effects as depicted in the scene are way overblown.

      Highly doubt that. Pretty sure the this was meant to be a stealth attack by the US. Launching a ICBM would immediately alert Russia & China as well as the rest of the world that US was the first to fire their nukes and not NK.
      Launching from a B-52 from Japan would allow for a first strike + plus invasion into NK before anyone could react.
      Realistically, there would be no intercepting because the Chinese wouldn't be able to alert NK and give them the location of the AGM-86 missiles after the launch in time.

    The explosion is totally laughably unrealistic. If it were to happen at such a very high altitude, it would have virtually no blast effect on the sea level whatsoever. And the weapon´s power/yield seems also extremely unrealistic for a medium range tactical weapon.

    These films can speculate all they want. My hunch is that the USA arsenal of weapons and the personnel who operate them are superior to that of any enemy who intentionally or by accident move to hurt our country in any way at any time.

      These weapons, whilst probably inadequate, can still destroy humanity.
      As they say, the only way to win a nuclear war is to not play.
      The warning systems of the Soviet Union were inadequate to the point where it made a mistake in the 80's. But it was lucky that a double agent denied a launch knowing it was a false alarm.
