Great tip! But you can go back with your Ninja and blend again to break those down further if you need to - or switch to a coffee grinder if you only have a small amount to do.
I saw this in another video: before you put the lid on your coffee grinder, cover the cup with a piece of plastic wrap or foil and then add the lid. This prevents the powder from going all over. 💕🌸💕
Imagine the lime powder in Thai green chilli chicken? Can’t wait to try that. I’ve got a little Kaffir lime tree in my kitchen but I hate using the leaves as it’s so young, this would be awesome . Thanks again ❤️
Yet another great idea! I find that the Farberware single serving blenders they carry at WallyWorld work pretty good. I like that you get multiple cups for them and I figure that for the price if I ever burn out the motor (I use mine all the time for smoothies and all kind of heavy things and after several years haven't burned one out yet) that I can replace it pretty cheap. Sometimes you have to manipulate them and tilt them at an angle to get a good fine grind on powder but it's sealed and you can even flip it upside down and right side up while grinding with no mess at all.
Can not wait to try this!!! I have thrown out so many spices that had too much moisture and became like a rock that you had to bust pieces out to use. Didn't even think to dry them out!!! Thank you for sharing!
Darcy, take the coffee grinder insert to the grocery store and look for products that have reseal lids like Pringle, cat food, nuts, etc. You may find just the right lid to fit your grinder! :)
I'm brand new at dehydrating just bought it got it yesterday and I'm so excited. YT suggested your channel I ABSOLUTELY love your channel I've been bingeing on your videos! Thsnk you from Massachusetts
When I went to research why - I saw it and thought it was for storage (and it still is for that), but yeah..you can definitely use it to help keep it a cleaner grind!
Hi i remove my pith from the rind and place the citrus rind (from juicing) in the broiler without turning the broiler on overnight to dehydrate in a gas stove) This gives me pure rind, no pith to grind. I freeze the pith to make pectin. I burned out a motor on my coffee grinder obviously but not pulsing but also by including the pith. My organic rinds are used for eating or facials and my non organic rinds are used for household cleaners either in vinegar stored for 10 days or for deep scrubbing powder for cleaning (works like borax but is not as questionable in pet and human safety) hope that adds something to your already good video. Thank you.
Thank you Darcy, great video. I need to stop eating my DH lemons and limes as is so that I can make some powder. Can’t wait for them to come on sale again. I use a lot lemons and limes...as in everything, so am glad to have powder for those times I am out of fresh.
Darcy are u saying heat the oven to 170 degrees then turn it off & let powder sit in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes? Or leave oven on 170 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. Thank you so much, your subscriber.
I knew you would show me how to make lemon powder! I heard that some people put plastic wrap over their blender’s (under the lid) to keep the dust from making a mess! Could you do this over your coffee grinder? Just a thought! Thanks for all your help for us newbies!
Why not use the dehydrator machine instead of the oven ? Just curious. I am trying to learn about this while waiting for the arrival of my first dehydrator.
Because it's easier for me, and I don't have to worry about the powder blowing out of the machine. And in this household, something else is usually in there drying. You have to be careful with powders so that they don't blow - by putting them in a bowl, covering them with parchment or putting them in something like a muffin tin. Then making sure not to turn on the machine turn the machine off until it's fully closed (and the fans have stopped blowing, etc.) I've had enough spills, the oven is just easier.
I have one of those kitchen aide grinders and my lids don’t stay on very well... they spin off! I’m to the point where I would add a small piece of tape. Great tips!
I have that same grinder and it makes such a mess it didn't come with an extra lid for that mess it gets underneath the cup too. I'm on the hunt for a better one.
That's cool. I quit dehydrating citrus because it kept turning dark and like "burnt" looking even on a lower temp setting. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
@@ThePurposefulPantry no. Around 105-110 on my dehydrator. I usually have my temps around 120. I just saw the video you did on dehydrating citrus come up on my feed, so I'll watch that tomorrow. 😀
Trim it, slice it, dry it - 135F/57C until it's completely dry. Super thin slices will get you crisp pineapple chips. I prefer canned because the fibers are broken down some in the processing, and I just prefer it.
Typically their build doesn't work for powers (it throws stuff out to spin around the outside, more than drawing it in to the blade. BUT...if it's what you have, use it! I prefer a bullet blender for most of my grinding. I rarely get this one out anymore unless it's to do a small amount.
damn I got one and had a small beard brush cleaner that i never used to but why i didnt think about a painting brush the first place lol 5:25 thanks for the tips also after watching on the fruit powder on other videos that only watch blue berry and all of them had moisture problems so which one is the best with no moisture problem??
Do my lemons need more time? They’ve been in for 20 hours and snap when cool but the meat is slightly sticky/ pliable. I put them back in for four more hours
I don't think you mentioned how long you left the powder in the oven to dry. Oh, and how long did the citrus need to soak in the beginning, in the vinegar/water?
Did I get that right? You preheated the oven but turned it off when you put the tray in, yes? I did this a while back and it got all clumpy and so I tossed it! Doh!
Yes -and if you saw, the stuff is hard and clumpy at first until you begin to break it down. It's the nature of drying. If you let it sit too long in a humid environment, it will also get clumpy from that increased moisture. I don't bake it, but let the ambient heat remove any excess humidity.
PLEASE unplug your grinder before you go do anything inside! I love your video but THIS video is insanely dangerous. Beside that, awesome tips. thank you.
I did this with lemon and then I added pepper to it and it is the most delicious lemon pepper you’ve ever tasted.
Great idea!
🤯 Blew my mind! Great idea!!
Black pepper.
I use my ninja blender. It leaves a few chunks. I put them in a mesh teabag and use them to flavour my tea or hot water.
Great tip! But you can go back with your Ninja and blend again to break those down further if you need to - or switch to a coffee grinder if you only have a small amount to do.
I could sit and stare at that jar of citrus rings all day long!! Its beautiful, lol. Thanks for the great tips Darcy:)
You and me both!
I can't wait to do this! I live in California, many of my neighbors have too many lemons and share.
Please do!

Hello @The Purposeful Pantry. I am coming over from Freedom's Live. I have subscribed and look forward to checking out your channel! Nice To Meet You!
Wow, great. Have lemons and limes in the dehydrator right now.
Enjoy!
How would you use this citrus powder?

Yes - the first. You don't want to cook it, you just want the ambient heat to help.
I'm using orange peel to make Orange Oil in Vinegar...am going to try to dehydrate the oranges minus the rinds.
I knew you would show me how to make lemon powder! I heard that some people put plastic wrap over their blender’s (under the lid) to keep the dust from making a mess! Could you do this over your coffee grinder? Just a thought! Thanks for all your help for us newbies!
It's not worth it to me - I don't use it for anything, so buying it for a minor inconvenience isn't worth it to store. But thanks.

Hello Darcy! I have lemons and limes dehydrated and in air tight jars for about two plus years. Can I powder that? Thank you.
Of course. You might want to throw them back into the dehydrator to remove any residual moisture they may have absorbed before powdering.
I have one of those kitchen aide grinders and my lids don’t stay on very well... they spin off! I’m to the point where I would add a small piece of tape. Great tips!
Good to know!
THAT IS AN AWESOME WAY TO MAKE CITRIS POWDER, THANK YOU FOR SHARING DARCY.
My pleasure 😊
Love your videos. Thanks for sharing 👍
Would dehydrated lemon peel powder be used as a replacement for lemon zest is baked goods? Love your videos, got me motivated again. God Bless!
Yes, not for icing because it's gritty, but for inclusion into something to up the flavor.
Great demo! Thanks Darcy :-)
Use plastic wrap with a rubber band or cheese cloth to make a lid for the grinder cup
I have that same grinder and it makes such a mess it didn't come with an extra lid for that mess it gets underneath the cup too. I'm on the hunt for a better one.
I switched to the Cosori and like it a lot, but use my NutriNinja bullet blender much more
Thanks for the great info !
Your the best ❤️ I have learned so much from you and your FB group !
Thank you ! Happy New Year ❄️
Happy new year!
I have whole bag of limes, but after dehydration and powder, what is a recipe to use it on?
www.thepurposefulpantry.com/dehydrate-limes/
I have 2 of those, and never saw a lid that was different either.
That's cool. I quit dehydrating citrus because it kept turning dark and like "burnt" looking even on a lower temp setting. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Lower temperature setting as in less than 100F?
@@ThePurposefulPantry no. Around 105-110 on my dehydrator. I usually have my temps around 120. I just saw the video you did on dehydrating citrus come up on my feed, so I'll watch that tomorrow. 😀
I did lemons for tea. Tea time without lemon is just wrong.
How do you dehydrate
Ineapl!e? Can you make a fruit powder out of pineapple? What better and what's easier to use fresh or canned?
Trim it, slice it, dry it - 135F/57C until it's completely dry. Super thin slices will get you crisp pineapple chips. I prefer canned because the fibers are broken down some in the processing, and I just prefer it.
Can a food processor work if you don’t have a coffee grinder?
Typically their build doesn't work for powers (it throws stuff out to spin around the outside, more than drawing it in to the blade. BUT...if it's what you have, use it! I prefer a bullet blender for most of my grinding. I rarely get this one out anymore unless it's to do a small amount.
I use my blender for this sort of thing. Nice video!
May I ask what do you use citrus powder for? Thank you in advance. Learning a lot from you.
Besides what I mentioned in the video: thepurposefulpantry.com/dehydrate-citrus/
I love your videos! Thank you! Can you freeze the powder in the mason jars to extend life?
If you want - but they aren't meant for long-term storage. Powder as you need it for shorter times, store the rest whole.
Will it last longer than 9 months if I vacuum seal the jar?
Your mileage may vary. I find fruits just don't last as long as vegetables in storage.
If I want to vacuum seal the powder, do I still need to add a moisture pouch?
No
@@ThePurposefulPantry Thanks.

Dry it completely, condition it, and use a moisture absorber if necessary
Darcy can you dehydrate just lime juice rather then the whole lime ?
Sure. But your volume is much less once the water is all gone.
Hello. I have enjoyed the ideas on the various powders. I do have question tho.. how do you keep the food texture with powders?
I'm not sure what food texture you mean. Can you elaborate?
Love your videos. How would a person condition your powder if you don't have an oven?
In your dehydrator
@@ThePurposefulPantry I kind of Wondered. Thank you.

yes

15-20 min. However long you'd like. I don't time it
What moisture absorbers do you recommend?
The ones here in my Amazon store: www.amazon.com/shop/thepurposefulpantry
Is that a paint brush?
Yes
Can you dehydrate cucumbers

Shelf life, up to 12 months in dry and cool pantry.

It won't spontaneously turn on like a Stephen King novel.
