Hello Stacy, loved your video with all these helpful hints on how to use citrus peel. Would love to see, in the future, more videos about using natural products for cleaning the house please. Keep up the good work😊
Should they be organic orange and lemon
Can you just clean your fruit with baking soda and remove the pesticides Etc? If so, I believe that would probably take care of the need for organic. ??? ✋🤓
Mwanaume akiamua.
Simmer organic (3) lemon and (3) grapefruit peels covered in filtered water for three hours, lid on. Leave covered until cool, strain and refrigerate. One tablespoon in water (I also add a little lemon juice and maple syrup) as a morning drink to take my vitamins. This is known as hydroxychloraquine.
I live in the Philippines and we do not have grapefruits but we do have pomelos that taste something like a grapefruit, they are a little sweeter but they come in yellow and pink just like grapefruits as well, I wonder if you can sub them instead of grapefruit?
LOL
It makes quinine
Quinine is not hydroxychloriquine.
I made a very strong version of this. I ruined my intestine's linings for 2 months, my bowel wouldn't move. Dont overdo it unless you want to have a severe case of constipation like mine.
I also dehydrate citrus peels and blend them into a powder. Sometimes I keep orange and lemon, lime all separate, but other times I just mix them all together. Use in cooking or baking, or add to tea, so many uses! You know, the kids think I'm nuts saving everything like I do, but I will keep on and hope that later on they will remember some of the things I do and become resourceful, especially as times get harder.

Isn't it the zest that you're drying for food additives? I understand that the white /"pith" is bitter.
@@margaretmclane2928 bitter heals
As they get older, they start mimicking you. Without even thinking about it. 😅
Especially NOW with inflation up.
Put a lemon in a freezer overnight and grate onto a salad the next day to get an ingredient that is 400 times stronger than chemotherapy.
This comment comes months after I started saving my orange, grapefruit and lemon peels in vinegar in glass jars. I initially started simmering these peels in water with cinnamon and cloves on the stove as as air freshener when the weather allowed the heat. Then I stored the liquid in the glass jars. It is the most wonderful cleaner! Smells wonderful, cleans every bit as good as the commercial C cleaners, because I compared both! Basically free, after I enjoyed the citrus in recipes! Win win win!
Love all these ideas. Lol. I burst out laughing when I heard you sing ‘Butter”. Who knew that a homesteader would know K-pop?!! 😆
Are kidding? “If you stayed till end of video” I’m hanging on your every word. Thank you as always for your invaluable tips & advice.
I love that. If you can't eat it, don't put it on your skin. I use coconut oil as a moisturizer.
I agree ... if I make bread using coconut oil as shortening, what is left on my hands is used on my skin.
Coconut oil is good for fingernails too
I put my lemon peels in vinegar and after soaking about 30 days, I grind it up and use it to clean everything!! Recently, we’ve been drying the rinds to grind up dry and use the powder for cooking!!
👍👍 nice.. from Northern California 🌄
I froze some lemon rind to use for later. Never thought about drying it.
Great idea, I can put the skins in Dehydrator
How does that work?-- if the peels are soaked in vinegar, they're soggy, and then you grind the soggy peels with or without the vinegar?
That sounds like a blender or food processor job?
Then,
Not understanding what texture & consistency your final cleaning product is like? 🤷🏼
GREAT VIDEO! Thank you for the tips! Added Bonus: People leaving even MORE ideas & suggestions~ I'll be back.
Thanks so much for your good tips and great heart. Here is an old song for you!
" Bend and stretch, reach for the stars! There goes Jupiter! There goes Mars! Using the internet you don't seem so fars"
Lemon water is a fabulous diuretic, if you happen to be "puffy prone" or just old (like me). Hey, old happens. 😂
Love lemon! I never heard this before, have to look that up. I'm slinder with many bathroom trips. Thank You
After reading I surmise it's the potassium content which most healthy foods contain. We eat the orange rinds with the oranges. Yum 😋
Aldi's has great citrus prices... I like Aldi's or Trader Joe's, load up quickly with their better offerings in and out quickly for those of us that don't enjoy 🛒. Woops, I put this in the wrong spot.
I start my days out with fresh lemon in my water and try to drink it throughout the day as well. It's very beneficial and at my age I need all the benefits I can get. LOL
I like just lemon juice & water with ice. Drink it with a straw to not damage enamel. Great since don’t drink sodas. Never noticed diuresis, but helps get more fluids in. Keeps breath fresh & stops any slimy gums or teeth over night.
Something I like to do, is to freeze my lemon peels with certain vegetable "scraps" (onions, garlic, carrot, ginger, celery, etc.). Then whenever I poach chicken, I add the lemon peels and other vegetables to the pot. It makes very yummy broth and no waste!
Finally doing this tonight after stockpiling a lot of lemon peels and shrimp skins and Herb trimmings for quite a while.. making a good stock solution and I might just drink it as is as a hot beverage or I'm open to another suggestion... It feels like it's working its way towards a Thai lemon coconut soup base with basil and scallions and chicken to be added and coconut milk of course
@@LindaHutchings That sounds delicious! Let all of us know how it turns out!
I love when u make video's like this. Thank you Stacy
Now I REALLY want a lemon tree!!!
I use lemon peels for hair rinse. I let the peels soak in water for a couple days then use as a rinse 🦋 leaves your hair soft and works better than store bought hair rinse that has all those chemicals in them, and I also use this on my face and body. Another thing I do is use avocado on my face which works well too! I scrape the inside of the avocado skin and use that part that's left after I remove what I want to eat ☺️
Thank you for the long peel idea as hair rinse. I'll try it.
If you can peel the orange or lemon carefully and keep the center stem attached go ahead and add olive oil to the cup of peel and you have a candle. A citrus candle.
LOVE IT
I can smell that already ♥️
Wow that's kool
I've never seen a lemon with a stem! Could I do something else? It sounds totally awesome!
What do you put the peel in to burn it?
Talking about lemons, a quick tip for indigestion, you can use lemon juice and water 50 /50 and stir in a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda, drink it whilst it's fizzy, it's alkaline so it cuts stomach acidity.
Wow! Why didn't I think of That? We use cider vinegar but lemon sounds so much better especially since I love anything lemon.
I'm going to do. Tummy hurts 🥺
Homemade Alka seltzer!
Bicarbonate is damaging the intestines (Medical Medium)
@@muktofreedom why, what does it do that we don't know about?
Love it!!! The problem is that so many lemons have pesticides on them which can not be removed with water... so make sure you clean your lemons with vinegar before use.
I just love and appreciate you guys so much! I use a lemon baking soda scrub on my face once a week. I rub a banana peel on my face and it is a great moisturizer and full of vitamins. I get lots of compliments on my skin. My husband had several kidney stones. The doctor recommended drinking lemon water because it helps dissolve the crystals that form stones. He hasn’t had one since.
Thanks for the information about kidney stones. News to me. Watched my son in so much pain trying to pass one. Wish I had known. In 2014 I ate two lobsters one day and went to have some lobster, shrimp and crab salad the next. I had hurt my back at work so I took an ibuprofen. Less than an hour later I was in the ER . Four days of tests to why my liver was showing that I was an alcoholic or drug addicted when I had never had alcohol in my life , nor cigarettes, nor drugs and no coffee. After the third day they called in a doctor from Japan thinking I had mercury poisoning. He ruled that out . Then the CDC came back with the finding that mixing shellfish and ibuprofen gave me a toxic liver. So they put me on the gall bladder diet for three months. The doctor said it was a shame I was allergic to lemons because lemon water twice a day work get my liver enzymes normal in two weeks. I asked if limes would work and he said no.
I take used lemon peels and rub them on my stainless steel sink and faucets.
it takes off hard water stains and makes them shiny again -not to mention the lemony rinse water refreshes the drain😊 thanks for all the ideas Stacy! Definitely going to try the foot soak!
That's a great idea. Thanks for sharing.
I have a composite sink that’s a mess. I’m trying this soon!
..same here. I love the way my sink shines and smells with those 🍋
Face, body, feet, and pits. I love it. Love using natural things instead of all the chemicals for sale. Love your show. Thank you!
DO NOT USE CITRUS PEELS IN YOUR SKIN
In sunlight they will turn phototoxic and can cause all kinds of skin damage including cancer
Another good option is candied citrus peels. Start by boiling them, which will pull some of the bitterness, then add them to a simple syrup (equal parts sugar to water) and simmer low for a while. Take them out and put on a tray to dry. They are delicious! I like cutting mine into thin strips which resemble gummy worms or something like that.
Remove the pith (white fleshy part) to remove bitterness :)
@Tyler Jackson, Just wanted to say thank you for the recipe on using the orange and lemon peels! Stanley and Donna in the NE GA mountains
awesome recipe! thanks for sharing. :)
Sound very good. A problem in our country îs that the peels are toxic, it is written on the shop shelf that the orange and Lemon peels are not to Be used for human consumption.
I use as cleaner n glass cleaner also. Candied peels (soak peels in sugar water concentrate) without white pith on it are great to eat after dried or dehydrated. Once you clean cutting board with lemon peel let it dry n use food grade mineral oil to keep your wood cutting boards looking new for years to come n be er dried out! Once every couple of months I oil mine all over depending on how much I use my wood boards. ❤️👍
the bloopers are the funniest ! I come back to this one often especially when I need a chuckle !! Thank - You from CT !!
The first video with outtakes! I thought you just did these straight through! You guys are so cute, love watching both of you.
More good lessons. I use citrus peels in tea, and to clean cutting boards already, but the others I was not aware of! Way to go Stacy, thank you!
I've made the vinegar cleaner, as well as used lemon peels for cleaning my cutting board. It works great! I also make a drink mix with lemons, where I scrub and slice up a lemon, put it in a jar with raw honey and fresh ginger, and let it set a few days. To make the drink, I spoon some of the honey with a slice of lemon and a little ginger in a mug of hot water. I even eat the lemon (the whole thing) and the ginger. Yum!
Very good drink I just had some delicious Ginger, lemon, bay leaves 🍯 honey. And your Lungs will say Thank you. Janice Harley

Id love to try this. Do you need to store in the fridge to stop the lemon and ginger from going mouldy, or does the honey prevent the mould?

Hurray! Stacy's back with a new video!
Always happy to see you. I have learned so much from you. I am glad that your older videos are up so that I can go to the early years and catch so very many "classes".

Thanks for sharing this wonderful posting, I appreciate you 😘👍🙏🏼
I grate them in my salads…. Freeze whole lemon and then right before you serve salad grate some lemon in… refreshing on hot days 💗
Hello!!! Well good for you! We also enjoy grapefruit, with our lemons and oranges. I usually always wash the outside of the citrus with a castile soap, and then I peel the skin away from the white part using a knife or a potato peeler. Those peels, steeped in hot water for about 4 hours, makes the Asian version of HCQ. The essential oils extracted, even though they were subjected to heat, are so very good to consume sooner than later. My husband has always taken a bit from the colored part of the peel, every time he eats an orange! Used to be that only the well to do could afford orange juice. WE are very fortunate, in spite of the hardships that the global citizens face today. Thank you! Blessings and Re Jouir -Darlene (& Scott)
What’s HCQ?
@@jtfirewalker Hydroxy chloro quine. Thank you!
Love these. I already use them as cleaners and sometimes I put lemons in my garbage disposal because it cleans and disinfects e disposal so well. Will definitely be trying the others out.
I had to pay a plumber to clear a pipe last week. He told me that people who use disposals are likely to get holes in their pipes because the food particles are acid-y, and eat thru the pipes.
@@ritazita1111 So we should not use peels?
@@ritazita1111 just need to put plenty of water down after shredding food, to rinse food down so it doesn't sit and rot

Thank you for all the tips ...teaching is your forte so much to learn...today I'm the student at 68 🥰🙏❤️
I found a couple bags of kumquats at a store that looked pretty good along with the price. Turned out they were not in as good of a shape as I had thought. They were drying out so I chopped them up in my food processor and dehydrated them. They are now in a canning jar and are part of my tea stash. I'm thinking a kumquat, rosehip, mint, and ginger blend might be nice.
I use orange peels whole cloves n cinnamon sticks in a pan of water. I get it to boiling then turn down to simmer. My entire home smells so good!
Growing up we always cleaned the coffee and tea stains out of metal pitchers, pans and cups using boiled rhubarb. Worked great with no scrubbing required.
I love your videos. They are so useful. But I also love your bloopers at the end. I crack up laughing everytime. Anyway your so positive and you always make me smile. Have a great day Stacy
How timely!!!!
Just this morning I thought to myself of going on YT and figuring out what to do with my lemon peels. I use lemons every day and hate to throw the peels away. Thank you!!!!!

Be well 🦋
Our ancestors (granny etc) ate clean. We got thrown into the hype of chemicals. Many of our elders were far healthier, fewer allergies etc. Yes. Medical things do have their place but many are so unhealthy. Some garden sprays are horrible and then we eat the fruits we sprayed on them. Spray bought supposedly to save money by keeping plants strong, pretty and longer lives
Ha! I just made your fermented lemonade, and I had a bunch of lemon peels left over, and SOMETHING told me not to compost them just yet, so I stuck them in my fridge! Thanks for all the tips! They will now be put to great use.
Thank you Stacy!! I have used for cleaner before and even removes wax! All the others I can't wait to do too, I eat a lot of lemons. When I was little, I'd save my peels and take them to one of my elder neighbor, Lucy and she would make candy out of them for me. So good and lovely memories.
Sweet Memories!!!💗
Would love to know the recipe for when my granddaughter visits x
Could you share recipe please.
Sounds just scrumptious
Re candied orange peel: it's a very American traditional folk candy:
It was served in THE WHITE HOUSE at US First Lady Laura Bush's first Christmas Tea (Christmas drinks and desserts) in 2001.
(We went as invited guest artists -my husband a custom bootmaker - along with 400 others from each state). One of the desserts was candied orange peel! I had only ever had it made by my grandmother (she married in 1911) who gave it boxed as Christmas gifts. ( I still have a piece! 😊
Started my vinegar/orange skin soak right after watching this video this morning. I even rubbed some orange skins on my arm pits. My kids thought I was crazy. It did help! They all thought I then put the peels I used on my arm pits in the vinegar soak. I advised them that I had thought about it for a second but decided not too. 😂😅🤣. Thank you for an awesome video.
😂❤️👍🏾
You can use limes (which I use more than lemons) as well! Thank you for the great ideas!!!!
Oh ya, I could use a book of ideas from you. We want to live off grid too! We are elderly people but not cripples by any means. I want to do everything I can to make our lives our own and be self sufficient. God bless you for your wonderful efforts to help the rest of us get to where you are...🙂🙃😉😉😊😇😊😇🥰
I dice & air dry my organic orange peels then put them in a jar, then add them to teas, YUM!
When I buy a LG jug of white vinegar, I put my orange peels directly into it & when it's ready, transfer some in a spray bottle w/ a bit of water & a drop of dish soap & clean my dishes, another bott the same but w/o soap for cleaning other stuff.
Stacy , thanks for the great tips with lemon and orange peels ! You are so special Stacy and I love you ! God Bless you and Doug always !
Citrus peel tea is amazing. Been having it since childhood. You can even use a peeler and peel the citrus an allow the peel to dry. Then you can jar it and use pieces of it thru the year to make tea.
I remember my grandma always had dried orange, lime and lemon peel drying at her place.
Thanks for the memories.
Such a good idea. I dried goldenrod this year to put up for tea.
I will try this, I love orange tea. Lemon is good for you too.
You can jar the dried lemon slices how? And with what?
This is great. I started keeping my peels on a towel to dry out and making citrus-peels tea before bed. It clears my sinuses and throat for a better breathe night.
I might suggest this to my husband. He has so so much trouble sleeping due to bad allergies. He gets so stuffed up and can’t breathe.
@@CharlesandButtercupsMom I just store them in a baggie. But I’m sure they would store well in a jar with an oxygen absorber (for long term). I would chop them into tiny pieces though so you can get more I the jar, then you can put them in a tea diffuser when you want to use them.

Thanks for the wonderful tips Stacy! Once I'm done using the peels I put them around my barns. I know they keep skunks away and maybe other unwanted critters.
Do you dry them first? Don't they mold quickly?
@@margaretmclane2928 I've never seen them mold. They usually just dry up and disappear
lemon skin is unusual in that it has high turpine content. I suspect that is what keeps it from going mouldy and also what keeps bugs away
So wise Stacy! I love learning from you and so do my kiddos. Watching again and taking notes. I’ve been keeping a journal of yours and Doug’s tips. But especially all of your health tips. I don’t know how many times I’ve gone back to my journal to look up good information you’ve taught all of us.
Great idea!
Maybe they could create an organized journal of all of the tips they have given through their videos??
We had HEAPS of lemons from 3 trees I grew from seed. Read you could just freeze fresh lemons whole. They've been there about 2 years now. I read you could just puree the whole lemon up after defrosting and keep.in fridge or freezer to take daily as an immune booster ( spoonful in water). You've given me a lot more ideas though, thankyou. BTW, the lemons were easy to grow from seed and at 4 to 5 years began producing tons of lemons! Keep the trees well watered though.
I put peels in my dishwasher too, smells wonderful and reduces rinse spots 🍋
Stacy thanks again for educating on the many uses of plants. I like to make an orange peel tea from leaves I dried in the summer...grape leaves, nettles, raspberry leaves, violet leaves etc. I add orange peels and a piece of cinnamon stick. Let this steep a couple of hours. Orange peels are a great source of nutrition and a bitter that aids in digestion. You can dry them and make a powder to sprinkle on oatmeal, salads etc. I like to eat a few pieces of the peel before my meals to help digestion. Cover lemon and orange peels in honey and store in the frig. to use in your tea and when sick. I know a chiropractor who has his family members eat lemon slices, peel and all when sick with a cold or virus. I do this too along with other anti viral remedies. There is much nutrition in the peels. Thank you for giving us this platform to learn from each other.
This is great stuff! But I would try to get homegrown lemons, or at least organic...but these days the term 'organic' has become somewhat meaningless.
Love this👍🏾❤️🌞
@@glintinggold sadly yes. I bought two lemon trees. I’m hoping to grow my own. We shall see next year

LOL I would like to see more on the care and maintenance of your herb gardens since those are the most important items in making a meal taste good. Thanks guys. Keep up the good works you do.
So glad I come from a homesteading family and it's good to see that these things are still alive and well today. I love this type of life. You just can't beat it.! ❤
EXCELLENT USES FOR CITRUS PEELS...WILL BE USING ALL OF THEM. THANK YOU...
Really enjoyed this episode. Thank you for sharing the information.
I really enjoyed this video! I already was making my own cleaner from the peels, and I knew about the sugar scrub, and the salt scrub - but I've never put lemon peels in my shoes (makes sense, tho!). For those people lucky enough to have a garbage disposer in their sink, make sure you send a couple of lemon or orange peels down the disposer at least once a week. My aunt (back in the old days) would trim the lemon peels so thin that they would curl and she would place them on the edge of our glasses filled with lemonade. (Made little girls feel so fancy!)
I forgot another application for the citrus peels! Cats do NOT like the smell of citrus ANYTHING. If you have a problem with cats on your countertop, leave some peels up there until they’re trained to avoid the countertop. Place the peels around your house plants to keep them out of the dirt. (Keep in mind that certain plants are toxic to cats, and you don’t want to harm your furbaby.)

How do you candy them? Sounds lovely
I dehydrate the peel. Grind it in a coffee grinder and you have fresh vitamin C

I occasionally use the peels to make citrus peels preserved in syrup. I was introduced to them when visiting with my landlord’s wife in Greece. She would serve a generous portion of the preserved peel (about 1/4) along side of a cup of strong coffee.
Just a sugar syrup?
I make my own candied citrus for baking. The syrup I use in teas or to jazz up cocktails.

My recipe for marmalade ....o ne orange ...chop up ,seeds skin ,all ...put in coffee/ seed grinder and obliterate it with a scoop of honey ...leave overnight In the fridge and it's just right to spread on your toast ...it keeps a while in the fridge but I don't know how long, cause I eat it so fast ! Hope you enjoy ...it's my way to avoid sucrose
I've used these for ages. Every time I peel a fruit for consumption, I toss the well-washed peels into my fridge & freezer, in designated ziplocked bags. I also utilize limes and grapefruit peels for most (grapefruit peels especially for skin applications), and pineapple peels for my foot baths and full baths. (I don't recommend that for folks with allergies or ultra-sensitive skin.) It is important, of course, to *wash each piece of fruit thoroughly.*
I have not, however, made a citrus-vinegar cleaning spray from peels, although I do add 100% pure essential oils to mine (and to my pure & clear laundry detergent). Thank you so much for this, I *totally* look forward to doing so tomorrow❣️
I also love to use the fruit ends for my disposal, and sometimes toss into my trash receptacles. Periodically, I add citrus peels (esp oranges) to a pot of water with a cinnamon stick and star anise to fragrance my kitchen. It doesn't seem to fill my entire home (albeit a relatively small apartment), so I need to tweak that a bit.
Great vid...Wellness and Blessings❣️

Thank you for the awesome tips!
I make a wonderful flea and tick repelling rinse for my dog by boiling lemon peels till the oil is extracted and floats on the top. I strain out the peels, put it in a spray bottle, shake it up and spray my dog after his bath. It makes his hair really shiny and soft and repels pests!
Great ideas I've used it for cleaning coffee pots and cups. So thank you for the other uses. Will be using my Citris peels more.
Knew a couple but will be writing all done in reference note book. Will be trying more. Thanks and love your enthusiasm when teaching us.
LOVE these!! Also LOVE to slice the lemon peels thin and put them in with the roasting chicken.... They get so soft and flavorful and you can eat the lemon peel as a side with the roast chicken!

I have my cleaner getting ready and I've done a foot soak while I drank the tea, so relaxing! I've been making the probiotic lemonade, so I have lots of peels 😊
