    I hold the Q2u in probably too high regard as well. But the value for $50 is pretty great. Another great option is the xm8500 + interface for around the same price if not a little bit more.

      Would you consider the xm8500 as good as the Q2U?
      I currently have a Rude NT-usb and Honestly, I just get pretty awful sound from it, don't get me wrong it sounds amazing, but the ambient noise it picks up, and the clarity just isn't quite as good as it should be. That all just makes me want to try out something else, specifically an xlr mic.

    I have the Samson Q2U which I bought based on positive reviews from EV and others. It is pretty fantastic, especially considering the price. I've used it with USB and recently started using XLR. It sounds great either way. It is way, way better than the condenser mic I had been using which picked up ridiculous amounts of background noise.

  • @DaveAllredDNA3e8

    I'm strongly considering a dynamic mic because I have more room noise. My biggest problem with the Q2 is I'm paying extra for USB interface within the mic when I already want to get the xlr interface and risking more noise from electronics in the mic.
    I am testing a FiFine 669 and noise floor is higher then logistic headset. RUclipsr stream Dr recommends toner xlr mic.

    • @angeltensey
      @angeltensey 2 года назад

      Yeah, i agree that most of non-musicians doesnt need condensers (larg diaphragm for sure). Dynamic mics are sturdier, picks less around the speaker, sounds less screamy, doesnt require phantom power. But blue ember sounds like it was intentionally made to behave like dynamic mic and to sound more like condenser with extra softness of dynamic, which is dope IMO.

  • @sam9239

    The Samson Q2U might actually be the best value mic ever. Podcasting, live streaming Discord, etc. I would even go as far as saying it's more than a beginner mic. It's a very good intermediate option for a very low price. Half as less pricey as most other worse USB condenser mics like the Yeti.
    I remember being SO CLOSE to buying the Yeti Nano or HyperX Quadcast at discount. But because of the COVID situation, stock had been completely eradicated in my country. After waiting a while, I expanded my searches to XLR mics and quickly shut it down because I didn't have budget to spend on a decent audio interface + mic.
    Thank goodness I found the Samson Q2U, not only did I get very affordable price, I get a mic that made my friends think I was "HD & Crisp" over Discord. I've been also doing meetings over it on Microsoft Teams and my colleagues have also complemented my sound.
    I seriously recommend this mic for all you casual and semi-serious audiophiles. For all the very serious audiophiles, this will not be your cup of tea, but it would be a decent backup mic for travelling, on stage or at home.

    There's nothing particularly wrong with a condenser for streaming. It might be more sensitive, but that's fine depending on the sound profile that you're going for. Maybe you even want some ambiance. But also, you can generally turn down the gain much lower, leading to less noise overall. I wouldn't discount condensers for streaming, even if they're not traditionally used.
    That said, I'd also recommend something else over this Blue mic.... :P Even those generic BM7000 condensers or whatever they're called could work, given a good enough interface/preamp. But at that price point I prefer the XM8500 (which is also dynamic).

    • @Storm-Chaser
      @Storm-Chaser 3 года назад

      You are so very right. People seem to overlook things like signal to noise ratio. People will eat a dynamic mic and sit farther back from a condenser mic and then blame the mic for the change in SNR that they themselves caused. Though it's also true that condenser mics are more sensitive by design and require slightly less sound pressure to vibrate the mic element's diaphragm, if you crank the gain high enough on most any dynamic most people would be surprised at just how sensitive they actually are.

    I LOVE the quality of the Q2U, I just wish it wasn't so sensitive! I tried fiddling with the gain on my GoXLR Mini. If I lower the gain, it's obviously not as sensitive, but then it's not loud enough to be useful while streaming lol. When I raise it to appropriate levels (60-65ish DB), it picks up needles hitting the floor! At 50DB it's pretty decent, just too quiet. I turned on the noise gate, which is great for not talking, but when I do talk, you still hear my computer fan (which is under my desk, and not really even that loud lol). There's got to be something I'm missing!

    The Blue Ember is a small diaphragm microphone, that explains most of its plosives and the fact that it sounds different than an AT2020, for example, which is large diaphragm microphone. Too very different beasts. I think it’s really cool that Blue has these in this market. I can buy 2 and finally own a stereo pair of small diaphragm mics for acoustic. I’m impressed with some of the sound samples on this mic.

    Honestly that was one the better brake downs for mics as far as streaming goes. The rolls of condenser and dynamic mics are pretty clear, but blue was the first to come up with the answer for "How do i plug a mic in to my PC" they now focus on a customer base that when given a mic with 3 capsules still cant find to speak into any of them. Nothing they produce follows good microphone meta, but buying a blue yeti means yet get everything you need in 1, except the universal thread size for a boom arm and every time you upgrade they get to sell you every stage of the audio output again

    I don't do streaming, but I have wondered whether the Q2U with USB alone would be loud enough, in Windows, to be streamed without the post-processing you would do when recording. (The Q2U has a louder signal than the ATR2100 or the AT2005, but....USB in Windows is always going to be pretty subdued.) Whereas at least with a condenser mic, you're definitely going to have additional amplification available fro the interface or mixer. So this was very interesting. Thanks, Adam!

    I'm really thinking about switching from my Blue Yeti which is hypersensitive in my conditions... It picks up literally EVERYTHING from keyboard sound, talks in the kitchen, cars driving by, saliva sounds, farts and even goats screaming on the other side of the country. Samson Q2U sounds really nice and should fix some of my audio issues. I can't afford a proper soundproofing of my room. Thing I am bothered of is the whole "complexity" of XLR setup. You mentioned a cheap Behringer XLR -> USB interface (forgot which video was that), but then I'll be lacking the advantages of dedicated audio strip (noise gate, blah blah blah, things which something like DBX-whatever have). Should I be able to get away with these using OBS filters or should I dig deeper in my wallet and get something more than just dynamic mic and interface? And again, what was that cheap Behringer interface? Single XLR input or be more future proof and get something with 2 inputs... I think I should be able to get Q2U and interface with money from selling Yeti... Hm... Audio IS complicated.

    Lol @ 6:00 Blue was a Professional microphone company LONG before "streaming" and the introduction of their consumer line. If anything, yes, their consumer division marketing sucks. But, I get what they are doing here. A good all-around mic for streaming AND recording. Obviously, not the best in either category. As long as a mic has the actual range specified on the box, you can make it work. Mind you want to be concerned with things like line noise, hum, distortion. But, if everything else falls in line you can make it work. I have long been a proponent of the fact that if you know your gear and know how to use it...you can make a pile of crap sound amazing. I get tired of the, "everybody uses (insert product here), let's hate on said product." Having toured and run a recording studio for 25+ years with a fairly successful career at it, my advice would be this... If you are in a studio and recording the spoken word, use a condenser mic. Learn to gate, eq, and compress it if you have some background noise. Honestly, if you have a little keyboard sound in the background this is okay. As long as you are not slamming the keys and the sound is light and unobtrusive this is all part of your stream. If you are screaming in your studio or have a really loud projecting voice and that is what you use for streaming, then go dynamic. You still need to gate, compress, eq, that as well. Mind you those settings will be completely different than those for the condenser mic. Learn your gear. There is something new everyday claiming this or that (to obviously get your $$$) Most of the time, people don't bother to exercise what their gear can or cannot do. Just for the record, Samson has NEVER been a professional company. I dealt with them for years. They have always been the Radio Shack of electronics. Granted, the mic EPOS is using may be great with his talent, but you may find yourself hard pressed to get that kind of quality out of anything Sampson without padding it with tons of outboard gear (and an already amazing voice)..

    Suggestions for a quality xlr condenser mic between 150 and $200

    Ya the blue ember is great for stream. First the audio quality is okay and with twitch's compression who cares the bigger perk is the aesthetic of it. Mainly because you will be in front of it and it will be in the way of your cam. Now ambient noise grab some good sounding switches and if anyone finds a shock mount for this please let me know.

      "Audio Quality" has very little to do with Twitch audio bitrate compression and I'm really tired of that argument. Literally everything I tested here was for the practical "quality" which Twitch has no impact on.
      Aesthetics for a tool that will barely be seen is hilarious.

    You can't properly drive ANY dynamic mic over usb, the 5 volts is no where near enough.
    You're still looking at min $100 USD for a crappy interface and XLR cables on top of the mic cost to get good sound.
    Even then, low end interfaces are known to die rather quickly.
    This is why entry level streaming/recording mics are condenser. Most people can't or won't spend $500+ USD just on a mic setup to start streaming/recording.

      You do realize plenty of mixers and interfaces drive dynamic mics while only being powered by USB right? That's not how that works

    • @josephlavoie8358
      @josephlavoie8358 4 года назад

      @@EposVox USB standard is 5V, you can drive a dynamic very poorly with that, but the noise in post when you boost (you'll need to) makes it pointless.

      I just got the Ember. Haven't tested it though. Don't let some YT guy tell you what's what. try it THEN decide. You can always send it back if you get it on Amazon Prime.

    The blue ember sounds so much richer and clear in all examples it’s obvious the Samson can’t keep up at all.

    Sorry Blue can buy cheap Chinese mic and upgrade kit for just a little bit more than your cost. Then I have a mic that can compete with $800 mics.
