  • In this video, I'll teach you the Ultimate FG-Knot tying method for Finesse & Big Game - NO "3rd Hand" needed PLUS Fewer Wraps & Faster Tying.
This knot is perfect for joining braided reel line to Fluorocarbon or mono leaders. With this method of tying, you don't need any anchor point (or second person) to hold your braid and it works on thin fluorocarbon for fishing finesse baits - as well as being simple to tie for strong saltwater leaders and braid.
Whether you're fishing ultralight spinning, BFS (Bait Finesse System), power fishing for largemouth bass or targeting monsters in the salt, this FG-Knot Guide is a great tool to have in your arsenal. Once you've learned the steps, it's easy to use, and it can help you land some big fish - while avoiding problems when casting!
    Thanks for watching!

I just use the daichii knot assist 2.0 Works very well with light lines with less cramping in the hands. 🙂

Good video. Half hitches can begin to open. I use some of half hitches and then Rizzuto finish.

I avoided the FG knot like the plague until I saw this method of tying it. With a 1.0mm leader and 0.35 braid I can now tie it in under a minute. On thinner stuff like that you used it takes a bit longer. It does take a bit of practice though. Just use some old braid and leader material to practice.

Absolutely agree 100% - once you have the knack it's fast and effective. Plus, because you're laying on the wraps at the correct tension - you don't suffer from the first wraps being all baggy and slack when you pull to check everything is seated properly and tightened down. I guess that's why you need fewer wraps to gain the full strength of the knot (which also saves time). Paul

@@FishingDiscoveries I've found that a dozen wraps is OK. I've pulled some quite large snags out with out any problems.

Every fly tier knows that wrap you're doing with your fingers as a Whip Finish.

I have to stop you there- it's absolutely NOT a whip finish (and I say this as someone who sells fly tying videos). The wraps in this video criss cross over each other in alternating directions. The wraps in a whip finish knot all progress in the same single spiral as they wrap over a parallel but static "leg" of thread. Thank you for jumping in to the conversation though, it's appreciated. Can't be bothered with the FG knot, far to complex, I use the GT knot easy to tie at home or on the bank, never had one come undone or snag up in the rings.

    • @FishingDiscoveries

That's interesting as the true GT knot is more complex to tie than the above demo of the FG knot. I also wonder if the simplified version of the GT knot can be made to work well enough in finesse/ultralight leader material (since it seems prone to pig-tailing fine leaders). The true/strongest rated GT knot starts with a bimini twist in the braid, needs some means of creating tension (either an anchored rod or a second person holding the braid) and then also has the twisting back and forth of the loop while threading the whole leader through the loop formed by the bimini, good GT knot demo here: ruclips.net/video/AjcFEKJEhHw/видео.html

@@FishingDiscoveries I use the simplified version for all my LRF and Microlight fishing, seems to work fine for me, at least with lines down to 4lb.

The camera spent more time on your face than on the actual knot work. I learned absolutely nothing. I'll stick with the teeth method.

My apologies if you were unable to learn anything useful from this video. I made the assumption that showing each individual step of tying the knot in macro would be sufficient for anyone to recreate this technique. Obviously feel free to stick with whatever method works for you (the non-close up bits are meant to give reasons why you would/wouldn't choose this knot or method, so you can make an informed choice). I'll probably get round to a "quick tying" demo for people who don't have 6 minutes to watch this "reasons-why" episode. Paul.

@@DavidEmmons-rv9ez I just watched it again. And it's worse than I originally thought. I use the FG Knot exclusively. I have zero issues tying it my way. I was interested in seeing a different method of tying it. His tutorial SUCKED!. Why can't he talked with the camera staying on his hands? Panning over to his face every 10 to 15 seconds is downright stupid and distracting.
