2024 Mitsubishi Triton Review: HONESTLY NOT what I hoped...

- I was REALLY excited for the all-new Mitsubishi Triton, BUT I won't lie here...
It's MUCH better than before. However, some things about the new Triton that I experienced on-road specifically made me re-think my thoughts from the prototype off-road drive I did last year. There are many things the all-new Triton gets VERY right, but also some things it gets wrong. And when it has fierce competition from the Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux and Isuzu D-Max, it needs to make sure it can perform at the top of its game.
So today, we're going to take the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton for an honest in-depth review, covering all exterior changes and interior features; we're going to time the 0-100km/h sprint and drive it on the road and, of course, take it off-road too. At the end, you'll know whether or not you should buy the all-new Mitsubishi Triton.

Ok thanks you, only 50k for that Evo
I read that the new triton has the most payload while towing a 3.5 tonne trailer compared to all the utes in its class. Way to go Mitsubishi
If ANCAP is responsible for these audible alerts, it's really time to take them to the junkyard.
Distractions are dangerous.
False alarms increase stress
"Bong" just as your crossing an intersection - outright stupid.
@@ben7020 it be even worse if it did the g@y Tesla bong bong bong 🤮
Sadly most of them cannot be turned off now, or in some cases doing so voids warranty and/or insurance.
@@AndyViant You can always turn them off manually, so it would be downright bizarre to lose warranty if the dealer would program them to be off by default - it's just software. No law dictates them to be active (except for emergency braking next year). ANCAP has no legal authority either.
Car manufacturers only include all these annoyances to get 5* ratings in crash tests. Without them they get a 3* rating and the media says "oh it's a death trap!".
Manual handbrake? Take my money
That interior alone is worth buying for. Space and function and comfort. SOLD!!
Right up until BING while you looking to turn right BONG when you look backward to back up, BING when you've the wheel turned at an angle where one of the spokes is in front of the camera, BINGBINGBING when you've got a pair of sunnies on and BINGBINGBONGBINGBINGBINGBONGBING when you put a piece of tape over the f@$#ing thing because you're sick and tired of it and you only owned the car for a week.
The interior is nice, no arguments there. But is it worth having to put up with that crap when you're trying to drive it, which is what you're buying a car to do?
@@longdongjohn6588all the new feature packed cars are like that especially chinese hybrid/ev
The interior is gross!
I just traded my triton fir a gwm
Triton is shit they used to be the bang for buck brand if im spending that I'm just gonna buy a ranger, gwm is the real bang for buck and they keep up with the rest of the 4wds of road anyway
Man someone was on crack when they designed this. Its hiddeous. The old one looked better imo. Solid tractor though.
Opinions vary. I reckon this one looks awesome and the old one looked like a ladyboy, but hey, each to their own.
This new Triton front kinda looks soft but that's OK, still acceptable, IMO, it's OK, not the end of the world...
Interior is a huge upgrade, absolutely, best in the market (except USA's Tacoma).
Just need to get rid that clunky mechanical park brake and give it EPB for even more cleanliness, elegance, "user-friendly-ness"
And coil spring suspension for the rear. Four-link with panhard bar.
Hilux and Triton are forbidden fruits for us in the States. ☹️
you guys have the Tacoma which we'd love to have too.
Mitsu market is pretty weak in American shores outside of the Mirage so it's a pretty far fetch that Mitsubishi will sell the Triton there. but I do hope Mitsu bounces back in US market with a US Spec Triton
Yeah but all your car made in America are rubbish, maybe you need these!
Its a Nissan Frontier
Why is that?
I have had a triton ute since 2019. Love it with no issues. Looking to go up to the 2024 model.
Don’t forget payload also includes the humans in the cabin as well as the other stuff you’re carrying. You don’t want to overload!
Buyers still need a sub 1000kg model for FBT reasons. There are less and less options for this. Usually the sports versions were rated just under this so there was at least one model which met the criteria. Guess the options are basically trimming down to Ssangyong Musso and Mahindra PikUp.
You might think I'm picky, because you probably don't own a Triton, but I'm not picky, and I returned mine after only 3 days. This new safety stuff is total trash, I wouldn't even tolerate it in a bugatti let alone a small budget truck... it dominates every aspect of driving. It reads every street sign and speed sign and shakes your brain with crazy warning and flashing lights. Id rather ride a bike if this is going to be a new standard... I would not drive this truck even if it was free, this is the honest truth.
I have a 2021 glx-r and the best thing it doesn’t have all the stupid safety features.
Awesome and funny dude! Love your car reviews! Only just found your channel !!
ANCAP = ANnoying CrAP. none of it these days increases safety, it just trains people to be poorer drivers while annoying/distracting decent drivers.Might keep my 2018 car for a few more years before they drop all the bs.
First I've heard of this channel, started to watch.... but I'll come back to that.
The one we have here in Manila doesn't have AC vents at the back for the top-of-the-line variant. That's bonkers, with the weather we have, that is important to have. Darn it!
Every top manufacturers that sell cars in the Philippines always bring watered-down products despite the fact that customers have to pay significantly higher costs compared in other countries. Filipinos doesn't seem to care though and still buy them like hot potatoes 😅
@@KenshinHimura23 Well for me, that is almost a deal breaker. Its hard to accept. Top of the line and no AC vents at the back. Unbelievable.
@@SLIDESHIFT I agree for Mitsu not giving rear air blower to their top spec model for Philippines market. But that engine plus the superselect II 4x4 system is very enticing. The ability to drive your ute using 4wd on sealed tarmac makes it safer on wet condition especially in tropical places
@@KenshinHimura23 I agree, over all package is amazing. Impressive, but seeing the center console box with no AC. I really dont get it.
It will come with one when the mass production version is released. They were just the prototype ones that didn’t have it.
After working for Ford dealer as a service advisor in a dealer , I would never buy a ranger. Recall heaven and so many issues.Things were repaired without us telling the owners when the car was in for a general service.Triton all the way for me!
I still owned my Mitsubishi triton since new back in 2020 and I have never had any problems with in the past 4 years so it still storger and Tough for me I might go and test drive the new Triton this week and see what it can do
Yep, Mitsus are highly underrated. I've owned 3 in my life (Magna, Lancer, Outlander) never had a single issue with any of them. Most are made in Japan, except Triton which is Thailand as with many utes, since they're crazy about them over there.
What great looking ute well done Missibishi
Thank you mate......you just sold me this beauty
Wife and I bought one a month ago, and only had our old 2014 triton to compare too. We don't notice any bumps on the road around our town compared to our (bouncy) 2014 model. Neither of us can stand the monitoring system. But that has become background noise and don't notice it anymore for the most part. The breaking (stop start feature) is a pain, but if you time it right, lifting your foot just before it turns off will trick it from activating. Also you can do this after stopping to prepare the car for take off in traffic. All in all its a much more refined car and a pleasure to drive. It doesn't "feel" like a truck, again compared to our old one.
Good to see you done a few lines of coke before you started the review
Yeah he's not annoying at all 🙄🙄 daddies, daddies, daddies 🤬🤬
Need some tighter pants too
😂😂
He did a whole brick
He left out the fact that the front indicator lights are halogen. Rear tailgate isn’t connected with the central locking system either, which means you have to pull out your key to lock and unlock it.
The tailgate thing is quite an oversight on their part
And the problem with that is
@@charlesarmstrong8206 the rear tailgate locking system not be connected is a problem in high crime areas, like South Africa. It's an additional step to you securing your car and belongings, which will likely be easily forgotten
Damn
Ford Ranger AWD isn't via a centre diff. It uses a clutch pack. As yet I have been unable to determine if it is engaged all the time and disengages for cornering, or if it is typically not engaged and engages when needed like a glorified traction control or a light weight SUV.
I've been hanging out for a review on road as we are looking to replace our MR, I was really worried about two things. 1st, they put the 6spd in it instead of the 8 from the PS. Second, the nanny state bing-bong "driver aids". If that can't be turned off permanently , the Triton will be a no go for me.
The front looks awful. Who designed this?
Yeah, its quite ugly
Badge needs to be centred it’s too high.
I’ve found Mitsubishi always tends to not get styling quite right.
@@chrism5770its gonna get cut when i put metal bumpers
Stevie Wonder
Who designed this?, obviously someone with no hands or left foot.
Hi just one thing is when 4x4 driving always keep your thumbs on outside of your steering wheel
steering doesn’t have kickback issues because it is gear attached to the electric motor, that’s why if the motor fails you better have some muscles. And that’s why alot electric systems don’t want to self centre when cornering.
Good on mitsubishi for being inclusive by hiring blind people for their design team.
So true hey.. have they ever got it right? God damn that thing is rank…
Yeah they borrowed them from Ford
Yep, one of the few models where the top of the range looks worse than the entry level model
😂😂
Looks good to me. Opinions differ.
Well done👏👏
What you hope mitsubishi put the 3.5 liters V6 engine in this Triton no need 2.4 already enough,Test in rally racing, I'm sure mitsubishi triton is the king of the champion number one always win defeated Ford ranger, Nissan navara, toyota hilux, isuzu D-MAX many more brand
Any feedback on Active Yaw Control (AYC)? Is it a game changer?
パジェロやランサーなどに搭載され、ラリーでもその効果は実証済みです。三菱は他の日本車メーカーとは異なるメーカーです。悪路を高速移動する能力は素晴らしいです。デザインが気に入ったなら買っても良いと思います。
A friend has had his ranger on a flatbed 5 times now
Would be interesting to see if this is reliable especially with 2 turbo’s
You neglected to mention that Wildtrak has tow bar, and electric brake set up, electric roller cover and power to tray . All as standard which accounts for a fair bit of the price difference
And it's also a lemon and Fords service is horrendous
it's not a lemon lol.@@richardtimms6645
Love that new interior, that engine is a huge improvement, that GVM is class leading and great news for towing without overloading it...but the lane keep and driver attention monitor are deal breakers. The new improvements are nice but not worth having to pay extra to put up with that rubbish. I'm hanging onto my old Pajero Sport until that's improved (a simple software update might do it at least for the driver attention monitor) or until the carmakers start giving the 🖕 to this ANCAP-driven crap. It's still got 8 years of warranty left, I can wait. 😎
It will be interesting to see what Nissan do with this when it replaces the Navara.
Not really. Anything will look better
Hopefully coils and will look better
Mitsubishi has bought Nissan complete take over 2026
Ive got to admit...this is now my favourite all tume ute in Australia. B4 this it was the GWM Cannon X, but this is just such a beautiful car especially in that orange.
Bet ur wife’s a looker…
Is the Cannon as crap as all the reviews show?
@@davidcommon6710 depends who you talk to. There's nothing actually bad about it, ppl r just loyal to their own brands,, and hate anything Chinese. It's acc a great car and very good off road, reliable and just looks beautiful
WHy would they keep that small lock knob on 4 doors?
Not a fan of the front end. Maybe it is the effect of the colour.
A good ironman bullbar will make it prettier
The GLS with the black grille looks better, or if you get a black or dark grey GSR that coloured grille naturally disappears
If I buy one it would be 2 wheel drive but is that a thing?
I'm glad they went for manual handbrakes. Those electric ones are a pain in the ass to maintain.
I honestly like the front a lot, but the wife hates it
Your wife has taste.

That's a very very nice interior, huge upgrade over the outgoing generation. They always improve the interior, getiing better and better every new gen. Clean and elegant. Very good usability.
I prefer this than Hilux's interior. Even previous gen Triton's interior is better than the newest Hilux's, IMO.
Last gen Hilux's interior is better than the current gen Hilux's interior, so it's a downgrade, IMO. Interior feels cramped and cluttered, claustrophobic. Door pocket bottle holders are sooo tiny.
Back to this new Triton, yup, this interior is a big win.
Few things for further improvement, IMO, in the order of priority/importance/feasibility :
* better calibration on the driver attention monitoring system,
* replace the mechanical park brake with EPB, to clean up center console area, for better storage and usability,
* give it a REAL air conditioning for the rear passengers or just get rid of that stupid air recirculation thingy altogether,
* get rid of the leaf spring suspension, give it full coils
I’m glad I didn’t wait for it and just got the last of the 2022 gsr. It’s gonna be a few years before they perfect it and after market parts are made, and too much technology is not always a good thing. The Mr triton is a good Ute I reckon they should of just tweaked that slightly. This feels rushed
I want the montero/pajerosport/shogun version of this
GSR looks worse than the povvo pack.
I honestly don't think I'll ever buy a new car again if annoying distracting "safety" features and tracking and capturing your personal data are the standard all manufacturers are aiming for.
Old front end design+ new rear end design+ new cabin design + new engine ... That would've been better
I agree, old triton front end might be my favourite of the utes. New one is a bit how ya goin
Would've been a horrific combo. This is better
it still amazes me how there’s no seat cooling for an alleged vehicle engineered in Australia. This is why KIA will crush the market.
Who the fuck needs seat cooling lmfao. That is one of the most ridiculous things ive ever heard.
@@MYeahman try living in the territory mate, it’s much appreciated
How does he film the b roll shots of him driving? Does he just.... Leave the camera guy behind?
No they are clearly drone tripods. Once the shot is complete the drone follows and lands perfectly in the Ute tub.
The B roll shots are done by camera man for all the media.
Is that accurate that you can still tow 3.5 with 600kg in the tray?
Only if you have no passengers
No, the towbar itself (which you can’t tow without!) has to be subtracted from that payload limit 🤙
Why do they not fit the Aisin eight speed transmission to beat Toyota and better compete with the really superb Ford ten speed?
I'd say "because they didn't need to" and it is more expensive? Hilux, D-Max and BT-50 all run 6spd. Ranger has 10, Nav has 7. To be "brochure competitive" they could use the 6. Also creates an easy update pathway when the Pajero Sport is released in 1-2yrs time (along with new Nav and Hilux competition.
This could be the one to replace my 2015 Amarok... but I'd definitely miss that ZF 8 speed auto
U need 8 speeds where?
@@ericm4426 It's a much better gearbox, saves fuel, better for towing and it just shifts faster and you have proper manual control.
it makes the 6 speed in the ford rangers feel like a 90's gm 4 speed. it even feels better than the 10 speed
@@javic1979 THAN the 10 speed.
About the only thing i see advantageous, compared to my Dmax , is the fuel economy. Low 7's is very good for a vehicle of this design and weight.
A triton owner will always say the 4x4 is the best, but as of 2024, ranger an VW lead the pack in towing power, at the moment no 2liter will compete against a v6 twin turbo diesel.
Still got the crappy rear drum brakes, so last century ! Even my old 1988 GQ Patrol had discs all round!
Drums are better for hauling, and better as a handbrake too
The Gq/Gu has a separate drum on the back of the transmission as a handbrake too.
You realise semis use drums, right?
@@biggusoofus9682 If drums are so " good ", why do the likes of Landcruiser, Patrol, Ram, Silverado etc have discs all round ????????
Drums suffer from brake fade when braking with big loads, and are shit are water crossings!
@@AraratGold because they have the "premium appeal" to the average person. Plus it's really only advantageous in a track performance vehicle that requires air cooling under constant hard braking. As for wading purposes, last time I checked, drums are vacuum sealed while discs are exposed to the elements so...aren't drums better for flooding?
Lastly, discs are easier to service on your own. But I doubt Landcruiser, Patrol, Ram, premium trucks, etc. owners would do it by themselves. They're more likely to take it to a service center with professional mechanics, which in that case it doesn't really matter if they are drums or discs.
Summary/TLDR: Why spend extra when you really aren't going to to make use of that "extra goodness" in day to day applications?
They didn't make a basic enough veron we need a basis petrol Ute like the workmate hilux
It's coming the end of the year
I feel they will update this model end of 25 might pay to hold off because they will address these issues and possibly give us a hydrogen hybrid 👍🏼
I honestly don't see any difference in cabin features over my MY23 GLS besides the new safety stuff. I even have the wireless phone charger from delivery. to me all it is is a bigger uglier MR with way to many safety and emissions crap added like the introduction of ADBLU. I'll pass thanks
Get an eye test mate
The MR interior is absolute dogshit are you insane.
I feel like im the only person who likes the way it looks....
Hope Mitsubishi Launch in India
Sold on most parts...but the driver monitoring system might break that..
All utes should have the back seat space as the new triton
You have to change the 2.4 liters to Mitsubishi pajero evolution 3.5 liters twin turbo then you know the kick in is very very very very faster below 6 second
I think it looks ok. At least it doesn't have a rediculously large grille 🐸
I too 😂 but ❤Mitsubishi on virtually any product ever made...zero, evo you name it they are but the best in all fields of technology and innovation...yet affordable.
I love my 2020 mitsubishi.Triton i cannot stand these audible alarms. Half the time I don't know why they are going off.the seat belt pisses me off when I'm in a paddock in and out off gates , these ute aren't designed for work , they are for yuppies
Anyone who buys this over a Cannon X is actually a little foolish, particularly if price for features is a thing…which is a big part of what this video was about.
Also you mentioned that the Triton was class leading in the rear seat space, without mentioning the Cannon.
And you also said that all utes dip down on quality when you move to the rear seat…but had highlighted in the Cannon review that this was not the case with it.
(And no, I don’t own a cannon, or any ute yet for that matter).
I've owned a Cannon X for over a year and would have to agree. The Cannon is massively underrated.
A torsion bar on the tailgate? 😂
It’s called a strut champ…….
No sir you are wrong, some makes have used torsion bars instead of a gas strut.
This vehicle will outlast the Ranger . It's going to be more reliable
Almost went one of these GSR as those front seats were amazing but I couldn’t get over that rear air vent thing making a constant noise in my ear!
We’re ended up getting a Wildtrak.

Having the current model; cannot stand the lag. I thought they were going to punch out at least have 500 newton metres of torque to keep up with the competition, but no, they just gave it a little bit of power and torque. I feel if they had done a lot more with the power everything else with the car will be forgiven because let's be honest, at the end of the day , that's what people buy them for.
When did you last come to a full stop because the vehicle didn't have enough torque to move. I tow 3t behind our MR Triton on NZ roads. Never ran out of torque yet. Gearing is the problem, not power. Two overdrives gears is stupid. The overall gearing is too high and 900rpm gaps between gears too large. Aside from that, why is 500Nm peak torque a magic number other than in a brochure war? I'd take 470Nm from 1500-2750rpm over 500Nm from 1750-2000rpm all day.
@@DW-10 i agree with the gearing as 6th in our manual box is not used unless over 120km/hr ( so useless here with our low freeway speed limit) It actually uses more fuel in 6th gear on our trips to Qld unladen, tested often between 5th and 6th over the years we've done it.
I try to ease off the line without smoking the clutch and it just wants to stall unless 2000rpm plus is dialled up. It's not a competition to say who can and can't drive manuals as I've done it for 30 plus years it's the only car I've had an issue with getting off the line without it wanting to bog down and in between gears It drops to 1500 RPM it's just too gutless! The pollution control doesn't help with the DPF starving it of its actual torque ( dyno only reveals 318nm @ the wheels in these if you research). Exhaust and Dyno tunes are the only way to help fix it as many have done.
The problem with the Triton is the peak torque curve is 2500 rpm against the rivals , which is between 1750 and 2000 RPM . 2500 rpm is just too high and you can't get off the line smoothly in the manual with revs; as car reviewers have pointed out! It's good you're happy with your towing..
Sadly the need to achieve an acceptable result in an arbitrary fuel consumption test means the vehicles are lumped with gearing that actually results in poorer real world fuel economy. In addition to a g/box with two ODs, Mitsi has also changed the diff ratios from 4.27:1 to 4.09:1 with the new Triton (autos). So they gave it 10% more power and torque but 5% taller gearing and it weighs more. No wonder it is slower. The 8sd box from the PS with the 4.09 diffs would have given the new Triton a lower first gear, 6 gears to the 1:1 ratio and still provided a stupidly tall final drive ratio in 8th for the lab fuel test. Lost opportunity I think. Hopefully in the facelift when/after the new PS launches.
Your pricing seems off

This pretty much concludes that the new Triton is still lagging in core competitiveness and most importantly, cost-effectiveness. I'm sure at least the top spec is going to see minimal sales
Not when a comparable model forces you into the v6 models just to get the same 4A/H AWD then you’re up for another 11k and then you’ve taken a hit on fuel economy. I think it ticks all the boxes, keeps fuel usage to a minimum and has AWD for road use which I loved my my old GLS

No adaptive cruise control under 25km/h is a huge deal breaker for families.
Not sure why you really need cruise control going that slowly 🤷
You're kidding right? I mean i'd prefer to not rely on cruise control at those speeds. I think you'll find no buyer of this ute (or any other ute/car for that matter) that has a family, is going to sweat it over such a thing. Honestly, that is an absolute first seeing such a comment about adaptive cruise control.....
Really? Who uses cruise control at 25
I doubt it, family man and have never used acc at those speads
Adaptive cruise control @ 25km/h is that for sleeping while you drive? , take a nap on the way to grocery?
