Why Does WiFi Sometimes Not Work: Android TV Box New Firmware Installations

  • Manufacturers equip TV boxes with WiFi chips that require firmware to have a specific driver installed for that WiFi chipset to work.
Some WiFi chipset manufacturers don't always release these drivers, only giving them to the factory that produces the TV box. This means we will always have third party firmware or some other development for these TV boxes that simply cannot support that particular WiFi chipset.
One particular WiFi chipset that has plagued Chinese TV boxes is known as a 'SCI' WiFi chip, nobody has to be able to obtain this particular driver from them. Realtek, however, seem to release drivers for all their chipsets, but TV box manufacturers don't always buy Realtek as they cost a little more than say an SCI chip. This rabbit hole doesn't stop them.
Each edition of an android or Linux based system requires its very own specific driver for a particular WiFi chip. An example would be an S805 box having WiFi drivers available for all WiFi chips for Android 4.4.2 but the android 5.1 release did not as the range of WiFi chips didn't have proper driver support for this new android. This extends further to the newer boxes we have and all the custom firmware that is released.
Now a did say this rabbit hole goes quite deep, this driver issue extends to the TV box manufacturers themselves. They produce a
particular type of TV box with one WiFi chip and then stop production only to continue later on but with a slightly revised motherboard design utilizing a different WiFi chipset. This means we end up with countless variations of firmware released by the TV box manufacturers for the same box. This makes it hard to determine what firmware is right for your box even though on the surface you have downloaded the correct file.

I had the problem with Wi-Fi and the LAN not working reliably with a new MXQ PRO 4K 5G basically it works then doesn't and you can unplug and or choose DHCP (again) it'll connect but minutes or hours later it loses connection I found a russian software similar to ATVXperience which works but in the process of trying different software I now have one MXQ PRO 4K 5G which is using the ATVXperience software (not the russian one) it's still dropping the Wi-Fi or LAN and I wanted to change it to the Russian version that works but actually it won;t accept any change either using an SD card or USB Burner - have you any ideas what I might try to fix this annoying problem

Isn't it about android drivers installation for these wifi devices? can we not pick it up from 'working' box and use it as a 'general' driver for others with the same wifi device?

Hey I attempted the 5.1.1 installation guide. When I downloaded the Abdul zip file and drop it into my SD card. It doesn't turn it into the archive program as shown in your tutorial. it keeps it as a zip file. I use 7zip for zip files. Am I using the wrong program? Maybe wrong version of Windows? Also the black box link now shows an "alternative" file to download. Thanks.

Need twrp img file and zip lollipop file onto an fat32 formatted SD card

@@MXQPROJECT I realized I needed to use winmount for it to transfer to SD fat32 properly... Unfortunately my box wouldn't activate TWRP and just sat on the amlogic s8505 screen and didn't show the little Android guy. When I boot without SD card and without the .img file it boots to the Android guy just fine. Trying to update through that way via SD card doesn't work. I noticed updated files on mxqproject/files website. Should I use the "alternative" link? Abdul also uploaded a TWRP.zip file... Is there a new tutorial or updated process? Possibly my box won't work... Looks exactly like yours.
