I don't understand wts the need to run disel locomotives when electric engine can run on that routes there are many routes where Indian railways wasting lot of disel when they can use electric overhead for running train Jago Indian railways stop using disel locomotives even if u hv to change engines between routes and train journey gets extended indirectly you will save lots of money and contribute to green environment
Ha ha using electric loco saves money and environment. India is generating huge share of electricity by fossil fuels which is more dangerous than the diesel fuel. Also the electricity is produced in power plants from there it is transmitted to various power station from where it is distributed,it includes heavy transmission losses plus maintenance of transformer and OHEs. By using electric loco we can save diesel fuel only.

Interestingly had experienced loco failure of Karnataka Sampark Kranti also in July 2010 between Jhansi and Bhopal. Rescue came from Jhansi.....

Probably because of the lack of electric loco shed in SWR. They have got one only, that too recently.
Still, you have a valid question. Why not run the same loco for complete journey.?
