You can get smaller Mondaines. I prefer a smaller watch, but these are just perfection. You don't wear a Mondaine to show off - just cos of its beauty!
This must be one of the most brilliant and simply detailed watch reviews I've seen for any type of watch/brand 👌 and what an amazing and historic watch it is
Thank you for the feedback! We're glad you enjoyed this review. Be sure to check out the others in this series. Make sure to let us know your thoughts.
Wow it is really expensive. This stop2go version is €500 and the exact same watch without the stop2go movement is €200. I really like the watch but for €500 you can get some pretty cool other watches
As a female , It’s one of the few good brands and affordable prices for me. Maybe next time you can add the women’s versions if possible on your reviews.Thank you for the videos
I love this watch, & I completely agree with you wishing it would come in a smaller size. Do you think in future Mondaine will in fact put the Stop2Go in a smaller case?
Very cool! My first watch was a Mondaine and have always liked the design and story behind it. Unfortunately it broke when I cycled through heavy rain. Might have to look at this one some time in the future. Hopefully, as others have mentioned, they will have released a 38 mm version of it by then.
I really like the idea of a fuctional tool watch in quite a size. It's like a flieger type watch. It's purpose is to show time clearly and visibly and I think that size helps with it.
It's way too expensive for what it does and yes, I say that only because of my own financial situation. If you love the behavior of the hands, you can try to get a used DB watch from the past, they also had the stop2go technology and I guess this is a lot cheaper. Check the video titled 'DB Armbanduhr "Bahnhof" Stop2Go'.
Loved my mondaine watch. Bought an original in Switzerland, but the straps are not leather. Found out about this when wear and tear shows a felt material underneath the thin leather layer. Very dissapointing.. felt cheated
.... Okay, I gotta hand it to you guys. Before this video, I was dismissing this as a "fashion watch", but... it does look reasonably well built, and when seen on wrist from a distance, it looks *good* . Stark, sure, but kinda cool.
Love these. I have a 30 watch collection and the only watch I have multiples of is the Mondaine. My 1st automatic watch was a Mondaine and I bought the stop2go to match later. I even bought one for my wife who couldn't care less about watches, now she wears it every day.
love the novelty of this watch. 41mm is too big for my female wrist and i'd have nearly 1cm of overhung lugs. so many watches that interest me simply don't have offers in my size.
It's a beautiful watch! I've just purchased the quartz 42 mm version of this very watch. Love the stop to go technology. I just wish it was available on all of Mondaine's offerings. Still, I don't think I will ever understand the people who desire watch which is smaller than 41mm. 🙄
I don't understand how the stop2Go function is useful in any real meaningful way. They seems to on purpose made the watch 2 seconds faster and then readjust the error at the end of every minute. Can anyone explain to me how is it logical to have a second hand on a watch when there is no way to time anything to the nearest second? Why didn't they just make a jump minute hand watch with or without a normal accurate second hand?
There is no meaningful use of this function on a wrist watch. On rail station clocks however, this function is used to synchronize multiple clock against one master clock. The problem is that no mater how advanced (expensive) you make the clocks you will never manage to get all the clocks on the station, let alone the country, to stay synchronized for long. So the way pretty much all rail station clocks work, all over the world - not only in Switzerland, is that they are driven by a cheap AC-motor with a gearing to match the local power-line frequency. Except the gears are actually made to run the clock slightly fast, about 2 seconds fast per minute. Once the second hand reaches the full minute it stops. Every 60 seconds the central master clock sends out a pulse starting all the clocks at the same time. Thus keeping a bunch of fairly cheap clock always in sync.
Fredrik Lundh Thank you for the in-depth explanation. It makes a lot more sense when you understand the limitations they are working with. Too bad the stop2go is just an imitation of a very “inaccurate” system. I don’t think my OCD can accept a watch that gain 2 second per minute even if it adjust itself every minute. It will be very cool and make a lot more sense if Mundaine can make the stop2go a radio controlled watch though.
Fatty Acid I agree. It’s a needless complication that ironically skews the whole concept of accurate time measurement. Bauhaus is all about simplicity, clearness, refinement and elimination of the superfluous-those are the hallmarks of all good engineering.
I would like to change my Stop2Go battery myself but it's totally amazing that after googled a lot I still cannot find the battery specification of this watch nor a single video of changing battery of this watch! Can you tell me the battery type?
I've written to Mondaine customer service regarding problems with faults and build quality issues with my new stop 2go wall clock but nobody has taken the time to reply to me, very poor service indeed and not what I would have expected considering how much I had to pay for it including £152 extra import duty the seller never advised me of, not your direct fault but your agent all the same. The faults I could sort myself with your advice software issue no but no emails at all. awful service
Its not hard to understand. How would it loose 2 seconds a hour?.. Its a great design an different. Unique... You think they would design a watch that would loose 2 seconds a hour on purpose just to have their stop n go movement...... It would deafeat the purpose of such engineering...
Hmmm, so a $650 quartz watch that obviously has issues keeping the minute hand aligned with the indices (look at 9:07 for example). Other owners complain of this very same issue.
I have one of the original batches of the Stop2Go watch (without the lume under the hands). The hands do line up properly if it's set it properly, which the person who made this video didn't do! If you pull out the crown into set mode, you can either get it to spin the minute hand round the dial to approx the correct minute, then you apply less turning pressure on the crown to nudge and gently moving the minute hand so it lines up correctly.
"In Switzerland, the concept of a train leaving twenty seconds past a minute doesn't exist" You couldn't be more wrong. Trains actually are supposed to leave *exactly* 20 seconds past the minute in Switzerland
@@VesaevusX That sounds logical. Imagine arriving at the platform 5 seconds before departure and the doors are already closed, because the train has to depart excactly on the whole minute. Ik will check hoe they do it here in The Netherlands.
Just purchased the new backlight model , all you see after a 10 minute full sunlight charge, is a green blob. Very badly designed/ tested....waste of money a piece of shit.
Too big, clunky design, silly quirks (lume on the back of the hands, the stop to go feature) and cost as much as a nice mechanical. It looks like a 70s alarm clock strapped to your wrist. Still glad it exists though. Viva le difference 👍

I have this watch and I love it. I wish it was 38mm or less though.
We agree, a smaller version would be perfect!
Yup. I had one before. It's such a fun watch to have. But I sold it because it was too big for me.

This design is excellent. It's a simple design that still says class. I love watches like this.
Agreed! Simple, but clever.
I have a Mondaine GMT that used to belong my dad, it is one of my favorite watches in my collection.
I have the GMT and is one of my favourites as well.
I do wish the stop2go was available again. Looks like the perfect watch for any railway enthusiast.
Awesome job guys, great and refreshing way to put together a collection, filmed flawlessly.
Thank you for the kind words!

Wow, I'm going to make it my goal to get this watch. It is simply elegant and incredible
It really is a unique piece!
Thanks for the review ! My next Mondaine Watch-as i now own a Mondaine Essence presently !
I love this watch, & I completely agree with you wishing it would come in a smaller size. Do you think in future Mondaine will in fact put the Stop2Go in a smaller case?
Hi Jakeb, this has been requested in a lot of the feedback, It would be great to see, If it happens we will definitely be on top of it!

I've always liked the simple look of these watches but I didn't know this one was so cool.👍
It really is quite unique, nothing else quite like it. Especially when looking at the history of the design.
So cool! But, I was thinking the exact same thing, "I wish it came in a smaller case."
This is a great watch, I myself take it very seriously. Only one big improvement to be made, like all stationclocks, radio control!
A fun looking watch. Great review and video and excellent series.
As always thank you for the support Simon.

Agreed, smaller and I’d buy one, maybe 38mm, and 10mm thickness would be good.
That seems to be quite a popular opinion for this watch, it would be great to see!
WatchGecko totally agree, and thanks so much for taking the time to reply 🤗
Is it possible to design such a complication with an mechanical caliber?
Where can I find the 10 from 10 list ?

Really enjoyed this series. I own this watch, not perfect, but it's very cool.
It stops for 2 seconds? And a higher beat quartz? I’ll take one.
Mundane? I think not!
I've just bought one with red leather strap

I have this in the reverse colour - white on black - but no backlight :(
but how does the stop2go technology affect to the accuracy?
Not at all I believe because the second hand quickly catches up to compensate for the 2 seconds or something I believe
Lovely review, very professional 👍 watch on the way
Is this made in a 35 - 38mm?
Very nice
Definitely a fun watch

Pop it open and have a look? I'm not sure but this is what I did for my own non-Mondaine
You need a CR2032 battery.
This is on my want list!
This is James Bond level watchmaking.
Loved it
36/38mm would be so cool!
Definitely!

Very cool but... Doesn't that mean that the watch loses 2 seconds every hour??
No.
The seconds hand moves a little faster so that when it stops at 12" does 2 seconds are compensated

sucks if you need to accurately time a bunch of seconds though
Yup... for a quartz it’s way too thick.
I will this.
Top!
Any stop to go autoamatic?
