I discovered Mondaine about 10 years ago and Teddy, you've brought it back into the forefront for me, thank you. I've always admired this bold, beautiful watch. I like mechanical movements too but in this case, I'd get a quartz for sure.
This watch was my gateway into the hobby. I saw it on sale and loved how it copied the look and stop2go motion of the Swiss Railways clock. While doing my research, I found the watch-collecting RUclips channels (including yours, of course). I have the watch on a black, silver, and red Bond NATO. The distance from the lug holes to the case is actually kind of small, so it isn't easy to swap NATO straps. There's a limited edition of this watch that commemorates the 2016 opening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel in Switzerland. The bezel is made from the door of a retired Swiss Railways locomotive.
Cool video - I wanted to buy it and went to a Mondaine Authorized Dealer here in Berlin and he said that the movement is problematic because it's so special. You actually need a battery to set the watch backwards and forward by a motor and there were quite a lot of warranty cases. He stated that Mondaine has stopped producing this watch because of it... Is it true? Have owners have problems with this watch? Very curious. Anyway - pity - it's really a beautiful watch!
I got the Stop2Go A5123035816SBB Mondaine in 2014 and it's still my favorite watch. I just replaced the battery myself which was not easy. I wish I had this backlight feature though. I look forward to seeing a new Mondaine video on this channel.
I recently picked up this version with brushed black pvd casing it was unworn condition I that snapped up very happy to find one, Had wanted one for a while 😊
I have wanted to halt doing that as I found the yearly rate in which I was doing it was creating a negative impact on my buying habits. I felt I bought for the sake of making the video rather than progressing naturally. I think 2021 might be the year I will do it again.
Could you please comment on a rumor I heard of a new batch of Stop2Go watches being made in 2023, or were they only planning to make the wifi enabled Stop2Go wall clocks?
There are still 60 tick marks for the seconds. Are you saying that seconds hand moves slightly faster than on a regular watch but then stops for 2 seconds to let a regular watch catch up?
I think I'll take the EVO Automatic over the Stop2Go. My experience with quartz watches with lots of motors (Seiko chronographs for the late 90's/early 2000's) is that they just aren't reliable past the 12-15 year mark hands get misaligned, mysterious battery drain issues etc. Would take a regular mechanical movement anyday.
Alright Teddy, give up the act, your only reviewing watches that I have been looking at, the only other one you haven't is the Maurice Lacroix MASTERPIECE Square Wheel Retrograde 43mm Edit: This watch is awesome
Haha I have plans to review that Maurice Lacroix as well. Very cool piece. This Mondaine is a lot of fun too. Not typically a quartz guy but this one is just too much fun. Thanks for watching buddy!
@@TeddyBaldassarreReviews I have 2 quartz watchs, and want to get automatics, but as a 14 year old its hard to have the cash to buy some of those watches
Hola Teddy!! por favor necesitamos ver este video en tu canal en español!! Es realmente genial este reloj, así es que es absolutamente necesario ver tu reseña. Estaremos atentos!
You can adjust the hand precisely as a user. It just wasn't adjusted perfectly there when shooting. Here is an example: ruclips.net/video/sM5xqaZpO_s/видео.html
@@TeddyBaldassarreReviews I saw that but it looked like it was still quite hard to accurately align the minute hand and the video didn't show the results front on. Seeing as how the second hand returns to 12, the minute hand really should move in one-minute increments in the slow mode, not fractions of a minute.
No the only Mondaine Swisd Railwaywatch with the 1,5sec stop is the Mondaine Stop2Go watch which is shown in the video which is also discontinued. Other Mondaine Quartz or Automatic watch doesn't posess that function. Greetings from Switzerland! 🇨🇭
love the look, but I couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a quartz. I would constantly be thinking about all of the mechanical watches I could have bought for the same price.
Mondaine does license the design but no doubt a great representation to one of the most iconic watch dials out there. Even Apple have used this design.
@@TeddyBaldassarreReviews I'm not sure but in most of Europe this design is iconic for the electric watches use in in train stations , Grovana has something like this, not sure ! it's special without comparison
Love Mondaine watches given their history, the patented Hans Hilfiker design is timeless, and the Swiss Ronda movement inside ensures precision to +-10 seconds a month. My Mondaine watch in reality has done better than that.
I'm in the market for this watch and called Mondaine USA today. They said one supplier of one component of the unique 5802 movement was no longer available due to the pandemic. They are taking their time finding the most reliable new supplier and expect to resume production of this model in 2022.
lovely watches, but sadly they are terrible. The clocks and the second hand movement are Iconic, but Mondaine simply don't know how to replicate it reliably in a wristwatch. Owned one, tried to love it, got fed up of endless issues and repairs and battery changes. 2 years old, and it is junk despite being loved and cared for by me.
I'm a word nerd and got curious. From the Latin root "mundus" for world, we get several interesting uses with different connotations. Spanish "mundo" refers literally to the world. In English we have "mundane" meaning dull/common rather than special/unique, originating from the idea of worldly rather than heavenly. In the case of this watch brand, their use of the French "mondaine" refers to being worldly in the sense of sophisticated, experienced, cultured, fashionable, high-class. But how ironic for it sharing a root with our word "mundane" meaning all the opposite things!
The designer in me loves this watch, but the engineer in me is disgusted. Beautiful and quirky, but why make a seconds hand that ticks at 29/30ths of a second? A German company would never do this 😂.
It seems that no one would do this, since this mondaine watch is the only one that does does this. You can get a non-stop2go version on ebay for under $100.
I wish this was still available. The 2 second stop is a pretty intriguing feature that sets it apart from other quartz pieces.
I’ll be reviewing a pretty cool Mondaine on my channel real soon. Pretty much looks like this but it’s an automatic
I am lucky. Just picked up the last piece at interlaken store
Looks like is rereleased right now as a limited edition, saw it on the sbb shop
Is the classic series not having the same 2 second stop?

650 for a quartz is a tough sell for me personally, but it is unique enough with some cool features to get me to consider it.

$650?! I wish. If you can even find them, they’re going for closer to $2k CDN. Any idea when they will come back in stock?
Now
Looks plasticy and cheap, don't see the fuss, people just buy into " old timey"

How many ticks per second? Isn't this a quartz?
There are still 60 tick marks for the seconds. Are you saying that seconds hand moves slightly faster than on a regular watch but then stops for 2 seconds to let a regular watch catch up?
The cool features of this watch piqued my interests in watches years ago when I came across it on the web... always loved this one.
Not anything else out there like it. Can't say that often in watches.
"I'm doing a 'review' of a watch that I'm a full authorized dealer for"
Neither Ted nor his fans see a problem with this statement.
He should call them showcases, he isn't very critical and I'm sure they don't spend a lot of time on his wrist
I'm no expert here, but for that kind of money for a quartz... Shouldn't the the minute hand be aligned with the indices?
This can be adjusted via the crown.

Since the system has an alignment adjustment, that shouldn't be an issue.
presumably each 'tick' of the second hand is actually a bit faster than a second, given that the watch can afford to pause once a minute?
It’s back available right now…
Can I buy that somewhere? :D Stop2Go is not available.

If I didn’t already have the big date I would think about this one. But that price is very steep also.
If it pauses for 2 seconds… Doesn’t that mean it loses 2 seconds per minute? I don’t see it playing catch up at all.

It really ticks like an Automatic watch - is it a 2Hz or 3Hz quartz?
