I've never wanted to move to Britain more.
    Cheers from New York 🗽

Greetings fellow New Yorker. I lived in the UK for several years for work. It was an incredibly smooth transition. I highly recommend it.

I'm a New Zealander and can relate to all of this, no doubt due to my English ancestry. I've got tutting and sighing down to a fine art...except when it draws attention to myself. I'd rather have a root canal than talk about my feelings, and oh the horror of social interaction with strangers! But I admire British reserve and reticence and hope you can preserve the traits that makes you uniquely you! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

I have just realised I absorbed all this from my English & Scottish grandparents. And then I went to a high school that was 40% Italian & suffered considerable culture shock.

The weather in the UK is mostly dreadful, so we dream about the hope of a few good warm sunny hours. It's a good talking point.

The Happy Birthday song was originally called "Good Morning to You". Imagine having to sing that song to everyone you pass in the street before noon? As if I need another excuse to sleep in.

The clips of all the toilets flushing I thought had stains on them for added viewer embarrassment. I realised it was dirt on my screen

Corden popping up in a video is like finding there are raisins in your cookie.

Thank you for inviting me to your lovely home. What, this stick? I may need it later to break up my stool in your toilet.

So, I am not a crazy sociopath, I am just a Brit that is not from Britain?! Something like a "trans British"?

dissociation from one's true emotions is the result of attachment trauma to infants and still developing children and adolescents. this occurs by unconsciously subordinating those emotions/needs to the emotions/needs of significant others such as primary caregivers, groups and authority figures. it is highly dysfunctional and forms part of the psychology of control, subjugation, interrogation and 'learned helplessness'. it is NOT a complimentary human characteristic but of deep, dark, deliberate and covert domination.

autism has similar traits to being british. Has anyone else noticed this?
My whole life I wondered why I am the way I am...now I can see that my English heritage has gifted me with all of the British issues while still sounding like an American. My behavior and general disposition would make me fit right in across the pond!

I think in the last few years more people ARE expressing their feelings, to the point where we have to be careful we don’t offend people’s feelings or we might be arrested, let alone expressing an opinion someone doesn’t like. Think cancel culture and wokeness.

Jesus...what a surprise, youre obsessed with the "culture war". this shit isnt real! How do I know? Ive never been on twitter, and I hang around people my own age, so I say and do what I like with no backlash. Give it a shot, youre supposed to enjoy life, not be perpetually angry at some etherial ideas you disagree with.

Love ya, Ruth, but the whole “why does the coffee person need to know my name?” thing just comes across… not good.
No-one genuinely wonders why the coffee person or sandwich counter person is asking their name. At least, not for more than a picosecond.
