i think a good idea would be the reverse of this, a plane picking up a submarine than dropping it back into the sea , try without the use of magnets but instead maybe have the submarine jump out of the water into the plane and the plane closes up, and you could fly straight up amd open the plane and drop the submarine
@@AsrielanBruh if it had both a rear cargo door and a bomb bay door, the sub could dolphin jump in and the plane could drop it back into the water like a bomb.
If you do another challenge like this, I'd suggest agreeing on some sort of registration system for lining up. Like a triangular nose slotting into a wedge shaped notch , or a plane with a rounded belly landing on a runway that has a with a groove down the center, etc, so that the lander naturally centers on the platform.
I remember there was one sub carrier irl, a Japanese craft made during WWII. But other than that, most other real world examples never left the drawing board. Wonder what the world would be like if these things took off, so to speak. But judging from how hard these two tried to land properly, I can see why. Edit: I forgot that the Japanese planes only "launched" from the sub, but had to land on water and be picked back up by crane to be loaded back in.
the Japanese one never had to deal with landings. it was made to basically have a sealable hanger on top of the sub, with a piston to add some force to the planes to help with the takeoff. the trick was that it launched exclusively FLOATPLANES with folding wings to save space, the planes got assisted on the takeoff, but landed on the ocean itself and got put back onto the sub via a folding crane, like many other floatplane carriers. a proper submersible carrier would have to be as large as an actual aircraft carrier simply to have enough runway space to recover the planes, or uses exclusively floatplanes, vtols or other planes that don't need a runway. launching only requires the sub to have a built in launcher, the recovery of planes is the troublesome part. However, a runway based submersible carrier wouldn't really be harder to land on than a regular carrier.
Scrapman, your ship's design's really good. I think that two things that could help would be to have the current bars spaced out from eachother by a few blocks, having them spread out a little bit in a "v" angle to help guide the plane down and have two more rods come up from the back to push the plane forward if it lands too far.
That was epic! How about two independent planes that join mid-flight to form one plane (voltron style) that you need to work together to control. Or a watercraft carrier, a boat carried by an aircraft that you drop off and pick up at speed.
Well normally a Aircraft Carrier has more then one plane. Maybe Scrapman could reactivate the old crew, kAN, Kosmo and Moonbo, and they all try to land on that Carrier. Everyone with his own plane! Also the Submersible Plane wasn't really a Sub, wasn't it? It couldn't "fly" under water, only sink
I feel like if the plane could continue underwater on its own, then it wouldn't really need the sub at all. So it was likely intentional that it didn't have underwater propulsion
Nice! Looks like your logically next team challenge following this path is: Jump a submarine out of the water onto a hammock hanging under a large flying plane, take it in the air and get it back down in water again successfully. :)
I've watched you for years(literally years, since scrap mechanic beta, and before trailmakers came out) but just now I've subscribed. This had nothing to do with the video, I just saw your sub count, and wanted to be here before a million. Your content is wholesome, enjoyable, and consistent I may not watch you all the time, but I can always come back here after a while and find stuff to enjoy Good luck with your channel Scrapman
Aircraft carriers are cool, but you know what's even cooler? A zeppelin style aircraft carrier that can retract its parasite aircraft into the zeppelin!
I think the Japanese ones the planes were launched from subs, I think it was by crane they were loaded. Good builds and video. It qualifies for unusual WWII builds.
Hey ScrapMan, i know that usually physics mods on scrapmechanic are glitchy but there is one mod that is just sooooo gooood and it's called the Fant Mod, it adds many things (like aerodynamic to make planes) and the creator of this mod has a RUclips channel where he explains all the stuff added. I hope you will have time to look at this mod because it adds all the community wanted (or not).
Saddly, like many others, Scrapman seam to dislike Fant on a personal level and as such doesn't use the Fant mod. Also many have given up on Scrapmechanic because Axonotl is very punctual about when the next chapter is about to come out
The plane catching the sub idea that others had is a great one, so you should do that next, BUT to take things a step further, you could try having a plane that drops a boat that releases a sub, and then do everything in reverse, have the boat pick the sub back up, and the plane pick the boat back up. As an additional challenge, land the plane while it's carrying the boat and sub. Maybe even have the sub hold something, like a brick, or an object, that it has to carry with it to take somewhere. Or just have that be a challenge, transfer an object between a plane and a sub, without either leaving the air/water for long.
Alright, now that you've built a submersible plane, that's one step closer to: *_Kingfisher vs Swordfish._* Basically, a Plane that can dive vs a Sub that can pierce the Plane (maybe give it some wings so it can glide like a flying fish). It's going to be a predator vs predator, as either side tries to kill the other in their own element. Maybe add ranged weapons if getting a skewering kill is unreliable/improbable. Kingfisher vs Swordfish, folks!
Multiplayer idea!!!! A pirate attack on cargo ship idea where you have speedboats with smart cannons which need to destroy six explosive targets on the cargo ship to win and the cargo ship which needs to destroy the pirates till they have used all their 3 repairs each or just sail around the map or just any other route.
That Manta Plane was so cute! :P ScrapMan... how the hell are ya Keyboarding the Controls!!? I gave up on it so hard I actually rage quit Trailmakers for a bit then recently returned to it now in the beginning stages of trying Controllering the game and Creation Driving. What the hell is Trailmakers playing at demanding of PC Control use to have 3 Hands to do it with!? D:
2 slow planes on toggle at same speed close to each other, you jump out and walk on the planes to switch planes. :) (might need some auto stabilization)
The way those landing prongs flex when the plane bumps into them makes me wonder if Trailmakers could manage to emulate the "hook and rope" landing gear that's used on real aircraft carriers (literally a hook on the underside of an aircraft that catches onto an extremely elastic cable that rapidly slows the aircraft to a stop on the tiny runway) Might be possible with a few low-strength steering hinges and some springs, especially now that blocks are more durable thanks to the Airborne update
Here is a nearly impossible challenge. Land a plane using the piston platforms as a landing strip near the center of the map. Perfect timing, speed, and control. Good luck.
Scrap man, you are my favorite youtuber and you have inpired me to be more creative. im kind of sad that i didnt get to see the things get built but i still love these vids
you could put a canal in the middle of the runway to mabe help with alignment, and small wheels on the plane, so if it comes in short it could still taxy a bit? sorry for spelling, english isn'tmy first language
Land a tiny plane inside a larger plane. Make sure it stays in by doing some rolls, and then detach the front of the large plane so only the cargo bay is left (still going in a somewhat straight direction) for the tiny plane to taxi forwards and take off.
try a bit bigget Aircraft carrier where you will be able to sit with a light warplane (smart kannon& bomb bay optinual), also it may use catapult so you dont need too big wings or ruway to get airspeed optinual. good luck ^)
as i saw you OK wlying into bars at speed of ship + 20, so you can maybe land about 100 km\h, also try putting a marnet pointed towards of landing. and maybe a small hut right from runway like on real carryers

look up the i-400 submarine on google, they tried this irl, but very different. instead of a flight deck, they used a crane and a catapult to take and launch planes. there was an internal hangar that could hold 3 seaplanes with attachable pontoons and folding wings, that landed next to the carrier to be craned up, or launched normally without pontoons for more range, but couldn’t land back on the sub japan would’ve (presumably) won the war of they got them up and running

Turbulence is change in atmospheric pressure, jet streams and air around mountains and it's basically like when you are flying in a plane and it starts bouncing around some
OK, now we need a submarine that can jump high out of the water, and a plane that swoops in from behind to catch the sub on top of it and fly away.
Call it the airborne water craft carrier and watch someone fly into the mountain while scrapman is busy making some work of art.
Probably gonna break the sub
