  • Our patient has been having issues with tension in the upper body which manifests as neck and shoulder pain, midback restriction, and Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS). Her neurovascular entrapment in the scalenes was mild, but enough to cause tingling in both hands. This is often the consequence of restriction of rib movement, as it causes the scalenes to overwork during respiration.
    I demonstrate a safe, gentle approach to free up the rib cage. She happens to have scoliosis, but this approach is applicable whether scoliosis is present or not.
    Comments and questions always welcome.

    Hey Dr. Russ! Throwing out a potential video idea: stretches for people with spinal fusion. 70% of my back is fused due to severe scoliosis, and I’m about 15 years post-op. However, now that I’m getting older, I’m noticing how incredibly tight my muscles/body is. When I do focus on stretching, it helps alleviate that tightness for a couple weeks. My hips and lower back get the tightest/most painful.
    It’s hard to find quality stretching videos that are made for those with spinal fusions.
    Thank you for reading and considering!

    I had no idea the ribs are a good point to concentrate on. My pain shows up at the end of my ribs and thought it was radiating from my spine but seems it’s not. I understand now how important it is to pinpoint the area that needs attention.

    Is this goal of these treatment's to achieve symmetry of the trunk, and if so, how many treatments, how long should each treatment be & how many treatments, total? Also, how do you determine which side is tighter? I have a similar distortion & my left side is tighter/more immovable.

    • @DrRussInYourPocket
      @DrRussInYourPocket  3 месяца назад

      Symmetry is not the goal. The goal is balance, ease, mobility and stability.
      The number of sessions needed depends on so many factors, there is no set protocol for a certain amount of treatment.
      The determination of which side is tighter is made by observation, palpation, and a thorough history of the patient's symptoms.
