  • In this training session you'll continue working on your consistency before focusing on developing a legal serve. Then we'll look at learning a fast serve and then improve your accuracy. We'll finish off the session with a fun game for which you'll need to know the basic table tennis rules.
    Before watching this video you should look at the "How to Serve" tutorial - www.pingskills.com/tutorials/...
    and the "Table Tennis Rules Overview" tutorial - www.pingskills.com/tutorials/...
    Thanks for watching! We love making table tennis videos and hope they'll help you understand the game of table tennis. Make sure you subscribe to keep up with our latest videos.
    Good luck with your table tennis.
    Cheers,
    Jeff Plumb and Alois Rosario

    i'm hoping that a more advanced tutorial about serving will come. I don't feel that my pendulum serve is good enough, my opponents can return my serve pretty easily. It may be that my serve lacks spin, i don't know

      same, i really dont know what im doing wrong

    • @notaboxofjuice
      @notaboxofjuice 6 лет назад

      Often I find that my serves lack spin because I contact the ball too flatly, or I'm gripping my bat too rigidly.
      I find the best remedy is to practice spinning the ball onto your hand (throwing the ball at the bat at an angle to impart spin, and letting the ball spin in your hand--you'll need dry hands and a dry ball for this), and to bounce the ball on my bat a few times before serving to get a feel for the ball on my blade.

      An easy way to get more spin off the pendulum is -
      1. Contact the ball on the side.
      2. Get a nice wrist flicking motion (start without the ball)
      3. Use your core muscle to give direction and speed. The good core movement also allows for more speed on the serve.

    Hi Alois,
    I've been playing table tennis casually for a few weeks and I'd like to get into it deeper. The closest club to me is 1h30 away so your videos have been a great help. I'm currently playing with a decent racket that costed around 30-40$ a few years ago. I'd like to upgrade from this and I thought maybe the rubber was worn off so I'd like to hear what you think. I feel like I have more of a defensive playstyle but I don't know if it's just because I'm a beginner, although my opponents don't play similar to me. So far I was thinking with this:
    -DONIC Waldner Allplay Blade or keep using my current blade
    -Palio Extreme spin Rubber and maybe something with short pips on the backhand side
    My reasoning was tacky rubber for chops and finishing loops and something less sticky for blocks or switching it up. Will this setup be an upgrade over what I currently have or should I just change out the rubbers on my current racket ? The one I have seems to be all in one piece except for the handle, it is of swiftflyte brand. What should my budget be looking like if I want the equipment to last me ? Or am I just overthinking this and I go back to practicing ?
    Thank you for going through my decent wall of text. I liked the video "match stategy playing as a chopper" very informative and easier to integrate into my game since it explain a whole strategy rather than single shots.

    • @ayushkrishnanchakravarthy5548
      @ayushkrishnanchakravarthy5548 6 лет назад

      Before deciding your playstyle. Get the strokes down - like the pushes, counters - and get an overall feel for these strokes.
      Removing rubbers off of the pre-made racket is nearly impossible.
      I personally would recommend you get the strokes down. Practice for 3-4 weeks and then decide your playstyle. Then accordingly, select your custom built racket.

      Great to hear you are getting back into the game. A good place to ask these types of question is on the "ask the coach" section of the page where we check regularly. You certainly don't want to be changing equipment every few weeks but since your bat is a couple of years old it certainly is time to get something new as the rubbers will most likely have worn out, There's nothing wrong with keeping your old blade and also the DONIC blade you mentioned sounds good too. If you can easily afford it I'd consider getting a new blade too just because it's fun to get new equipment :) plus sometimes on the pre-made bats it can be hard to get the rubber off due to the way they are glued on in the factory.
      As for the type of rubber we aren't really equipment experts so don't keep up with the thousands of rubbers available and so I haven't tried the Palio rubbers though I have heard some good reports about the brand in general for starting out. We recommend Mark V or Sriver as a good general all round rubber that will help you learn all the strokes. Often I like people to have normal rubber on both sides when learning before trying something like pimples as it teaches you more about spin. However if you really want to go with some kind of pimples then that's OK too.
      As for a budget you can just check how much 2 sheets of Mark V or Sriver are on some of the websites and use that as a guide. In terms of how long things will last, a blade should last many, many years. The rubbers will last on average 100 playing hours. So if you play 2 hours a week they will last around a year. If you play 20 hours per week they'll only last you around 5 weeks.
      Again welcome back to the sport. I'm glad our videos are helping you and be sure to checkout PingSkills.com where you can watch all the videos in an organised fashion, and ask us any questions too.
      Cheers,
      Jeff.

      Makes sense, I'll see if the rubbers are removable on my current racket and I'll try to figure out my playstyle.

    When I am doing a ghost serve, would it be better to serve it higher so it goes back over the net or lower so it hits the net?

      It's really hard to get back an edge ball and there's no real technique for it. Just do your best and get on with the next point.
