Seems the LASD is more interested in not getting a scratch on the stolen cruiser, than stopping it.
Watch the entire video and it is embarrassing (especially, at the end with a crusier that wasn't parked, which enabled it to roll backwards). lmao
Watch the opening seconds of this video. A Sheriff's SUV was in front of the 'perp'. But, instead of stopping and jamming her up right there, before the merge point, it opts to block other traffic and allow the perp to continue on. wtf? Could've ended it there.
How hard is it to get in front of this cruiser and stop it or to perform a pit maneuver?
The longer the perp is in the Sheriff Deputy's cruiser, the more time she has to access weapons and/or cause injuries and property damage to others.
The News Media should follow up and see if the Deputy is disciplined for negligently allowing a civilian to commandeer his vehicle (with keys in the ignition?) (and the engine running?). What was the Deputy foolishly thinking? (It could never happen?) (It's happened before. Duh)
@ (19:05) Another opportunity to contain the situation and stop the stolen cruiser was lost. How about positioning another cruiser at 45 degrees or completely sideways to block it from driving by? How about blocking the gate with a cruiser? Nope. Instead leave huge gaps for her to drive through.
If you're going to surround and block off the stolen cruiser, then make bumper-to-bumper contact. (Can't do that, we might scratch the paint.) Stopping a few feet behind or in front of it, allows the target vehicle to gain momentum and makes it harder to contain. (Simple physics.)
@ (20:00) Amateur hour at its finest. What a clown show.

The pursuit version of the explorers were actually slightly faster than the charger cop cars in testing. 150 is still very impressive for an SUV of this size you have to admit, especially when they "only" have about 370-400 in the Ecoboost versions.

Not to mention the closed-door meeting with the watch Commander and the station Co, and the bureau chief, over this. Plus the probable decision of having to be reassigned to emergency vehicle operations center for the sheriff's department and having to take the certification class all over again . Not to mention the" at that moment he knew he f***** up" comments and looks from coworkers remember everybody law enforcement is kind of like the military, from the perspective of good or bad if you do something that everyone notices, it becomes part of your professional reputation. That's why they tell you during field training officer (probationary training) status, always be aware of everything/everyone around you when you leave that patrol unit so something like this doesn't happen to you
