All suspects running from cops should automatic get 20 years jail.
We don't have the capacity as it stands because there is a failing rehabilitation system and no longer a viable death penalty in place. So you're idea of 20 years unless he took a life just won't happen.

I joined the LAPD in 1965 and retired in 2020. Back then, NO ONE dared run from us. NOW, EVERYONE runs because the cops are all young, poorly trained (not THEIR fault), and hamstrung by the liberal Mayor and pussified worthless Chief. LAPD is a mere shadow of it's once great no nonsense self. I feel bad for the young cops not knowing what is was like being a real cop.

Kudos to CHP and especially 636 (The Polar Bear). He recognized that the innocent civilians in the vehicle that had just entered the on ramp were in imminent danger of death or serious injury as a result of the perpetrators actions and he effectively used his tools to protect those civilians and mitigate the threat.

It always astounds me that people get car jacked while in their cars. In this day and age it's just common sense to lock your doors and keep your windows up at all times. Hot out? turn on your air conditioner! I'm a big guy and not afraid of anyone, yet i make it common practice to lock the doors the minute i enter the car. Don't give some cracked out scumbag the opportunity to surprise you or walk up and shove a gun in your open window. And if you are at a gas station etc.. keep your doors closed and locked while you are pumping your gas and the keys on you. So many carjacking are easily prevented.

In this video, there is no evidence that any car was jacked while the driver was in it. The cars were jacked from a fuel station, after all.
