I am showing you the main buildings at the SMC main campus, and giving you some information and advice about the school!

This college actually looks better than some of the universities
Wow, this place looks so much different than it did when I was there (between ‘97 and ‘99). I think Drescher Hall was the newest building on campus, now it’s probably the oldest building on campus. One of the best things about my time at SMC was making friends with international students from all over the world and learning more about everyone’s culture. I eventually transferred to UCLA and graduated in 2002. If transferring to a 4-year school is your dream, don’t let anyone or anything distract you. Take advantage of all of the resources and hang out with people who are as serious as you are. I knew many people who hung around campus playing hacky sack and never went to class. Good luck on your journey and enjoy this exciting time in your lives.
I just started senior in highschool this year and I’m so excited about this school. I’ve been looking at it for a year! And I’m so glad you made this video!
It's a great college. Arnold Schwarzenegger earned his AA from this college. I graduated from here a couple years ago & even back then it was only 1600$ per year to attend. This college is the one thing that helped be transfer & graduate debt free.

I am so happy it helped :) if you do have anxiety there is help for you to take tests in a different room than the class, check out Center for Students with Disabilities, they also have counseling services on campus if you would like to talk to someone.

sure has changed since I went there...they used to have a Carl's Jr. in the food court...I also went to the Arts campus over near SM Airport. There used to be an amphitheater near Pico blvd, and on Thursday afternoons they would have bands like Concrete Blonde and Fishbone...

Happy it was helpful :) I think you'll like the business department, its pretty good for a community college, plus you'll meet a lot of international students in the SMC Business programs.

I totally agree with you that the administrative services at SMC is honestly not good for what I have been through in a couple of months. But overall, for an acting student, its location is exclusive so yeah, hope to see you in person maybe and keep doing this . Thank you!!!
So happy it helped! :) SMC definitely need to improve their Administrative Services especially for international students, but I do think you will like the acting classes the theater department do have very good professors!

Great Video KlaraGladd very helpful kind of got the structure of the campus and realized that I will bring my own food from home. By any chance do you know anything about the photography at SMC, first time attending it this semester in Fall 2019 and have one class in BUS building , and another DRSCHR building which I am curious if you know anything about it.
I personally do not know much about the photography program, but SMCs CMD (Center of Media and Design) is very high tech with great new resources.

Hi! I’m a Japanese student and study English now. I want to go to SMC as a international student this year. I want to see, how to study or what your major is. Also, I want to know the school expenses😍 I’ve heard that some new buildings was built in SMC, so I’d like to know more about that.
なま well first you need to apply, the tuition changes and depends on how many units (and classes) you take but I would say for an international student around $5000, but to get the updated information depending when and how you apply contact the school or look on website :)
I studied Business Management and Theatre on the side :)

I'm an international student form japan who is interested in attending smc, but i'm worried abt the living costs etc. I heard that smc doesnt provide dorms and when i looked up how much apartments are the lowest price is like 1000$ which is a lot to me. may i ask where you live? as in do you live in a dorm or an apartment, and how much do you think i would need to actually live there?

As you were worried, this school doesn't provide dorms, so I have a lot of worries too.
The rent is expensive, so some ppl usually stay at homestay for a month then if make a friends two or three they rent a room with and put sub-lister, or ppl rent a room with two or three friends online before start the Semester. It was definitely cheaper after dividing the monthly rental fee by the number per person! I hope it answer ur question🥰
Hi i have a question which seems a bit random lol but do you have the picture of the vending machine which placed in front of cayton? ive been looked for a canned drink which i used to drink back in 2010, was driving around my county (orange county) and can't find any of those tbh i don't even remember the name of it pleaseee... need those so bad during my work :/ they used to be placed in the vending machine in front of cayton( is it right? the old old blue/white building)

Where is the main foot traffic on campus?
Hi! Where is the new Center of Media and Design? I saw a video on the SMC yt channel and that building looked dope, can’t see it in this video tho.
Its pretty close to the main campus you can take a shuttle there, its on the other side of the freeway, and its VERY nice!

Community Colleges do not have housing so you will have to find that yourself, but there is a list in the international office of people renting out rooms but they are usually over priced. I suggest going onto the Santa Monica College Facebook page and look for roommates and rooms on there. Hope that helped!

I am just 16 years old and my goal is to study in Santa Monica College.
I have completed elementary school through middle school. I attended high school for a year and then stopped because the main topic did not go well in high school. Now I am in a vocational school and I am on road with very good grades.
Is it possible that I can go to college at 18 with the current grades ?
I also heard that Santa Monica is a community college and people who have a finished job can go to college too.
Z I would contact your academic counselor about these questions, you can test out from high school or take college classes as a high school student. Contact your academic advisor to learn more :)

@@medusabitch4771 People are okay but I struggled to make friends. Best professors is that guy who teaches Philosophy or Religion and that gal that teaches US Reconstruction. Those were fun courses

The tuitions you can find online, it varies semester from semester, depending how many units you take and if you're an instate student or not.
Community Colleges do not have housing, so you will have to find that on your own, check out the Santa Monica College Facebook page there's a lot of people looking for roommates or renting out rooms.

Im not sure but you can look up both of their cost on their websites :) (but SMC is pretty expensive for a community college)

I am a transfer student, which basically means I choose to do my “fucus”/major course at the University and the GED courses (General Educational Development courses) at the college. Hope that helps!

you can't go straight into law school, you have to take 4 years of undergrad where you get ur AA or BA for gen-ed, then take the LSATs and once you pass those you have to apply. I want to become a lawyer so that means im a polisci major for 4 years (2 in community, 2 in a 4-year university), then i take my LSATs then transfer :) Hope that helps!

@@xoxobby807 Yes. AA is a 2 year degree (which u can get doing community) and BA is a bachelors meaning a 4 year degree. Once you have completed a total of 4 years in your intended major which i'm guessing would either be political science or history, you will need to take the law school entrance exams (LSATS) and then go from there :)

J K I cant say since I’ve never gone to LACC but I believe it’s cheaper than SMC. Teacher quality is probably the same since it’s community colleges, I think most international students choose SMC because the location, it’s close to the beach. The administrative services at SMC is honestly not the best...
Well this school had a shooting so yea (its safer).
I've attended classes at both schools and I feel SMC is DEFINITELY better than LACC. The quality of instruction, resources, and organization at SMC is superior to LACC.
Personally I think it’s better because it’s the #1 community college for transfer to UC’s
I currently go here but if immune compromised or concerned about covid don't take on ground classes which are overcrowded poor a/c ventilation and mask mandates not enforced by faculty
Campus shuttle service from train stations is infrequent and unreliable due to staffing issues with local transit companies administration actually deserves a lot of praise and service is extremely efficient internet access with I'd is really good library does not look like much but inside has what you need
Swedes very nice and polite on campus my only complaint is they are illiterate on foreign and military affairs even when it involves what their hone country is participating

Will be on campus tomorrow for swimming 48c disabled shower has poor water pressure and nozzle is never cleaned bring your own lock lockers are easy af to break into but this rarely happens people respect personal space and possessions really well one of the most chill relaxed campus environments I have ever witnessed math complex is a dumpster fire comparable to rikers Island in design I'm biased because it was last building I was in before covid shutdown it was scary and chaotic time
Please replace that carpet in the library it's nasty the computer lab in library has top notch internet bring back chairs to relax in outside of computer lab outlets work but take forever to charge your devices mange time here it can get really crowded at certain times cafeteria the one independent food establishment has extremely well made mac and cheese and breakfast panini in food court really effective microwave ovens that part of cafeteria no longer exists I miss the tofu eggplant with chow mein noodles this video is out of date way overpriced I ate at staples center and I still had sticker shock at old food court
Now almost all classes require some type of online access code especially for math classes to do homework on considering this video was obviously pre pandemic so much about the campus is now out of date more current video needs to be done and directed to from this post science building is awesome and most modern I have seen in any community college i have walked onto thank God its ending its slower than watching God's and generals and Gettysburg without leaving My recliner at least during those movies there was an intermission in middle if video was up to date I would be a lot kinder in my review of it
The up to date video should be no longer than 10 minutes you had an intelligent attractive well spoken young Swedish woman and I got extremely bored so video is just too long for attention span of average student original introduction video 10 minutes with links to more descriptive videos on different areas of campus
