Richard Holdener did an "Other guys" series on the Chevy inline six. He used a 292. Eventually turbo'd it, and it responded really well. Would be cool to see!
That car is real apocalyptic. Speaking of which, I heard they are filming a new Mad Max movie. Your Gambler Car really belongs in a movie; for reals, but at least y'all feature them in these videos :) thanks for the insanity.
If you want to keep that look you should knock off everything loose, make sure there are no abrupt edges on the paint, and then spray it with clear coat.
I'm amazed every time I watch them take a vehicle out on the road for a test drive with huge holes in the body, no muffler, and no tags. I couldn't do that where I live. Great job Mook!!
I bet you could build that straight 6 into some pretty alright power, they do make 4barrel manifolds for those. Give it a turbo and such it could get 300 horse.
Can’t wait to see the transformation on this Nova and glad to see it getting a 2nd shot at life again. I know it will get everything done properly as well.
Of course you can keep quite a lot of it intact like that... Scrape off as much of the loose flaky shit as you can then use a rust convertor sparingly on the exposed metal parts, not covering any real leftover paint or bubbles, and then matte clear the whole thing. It will need occasional touch ups, but eventually you will get on top of it.
Go to the finest automatic car wash town and pay for the super wash. They may pay you not to go through. Use the vice grip garage mix to linseed oil, mineral spirits, and wd40 your car for a fine finish.

Maybe in America cars do not need to pass an inspection for safety?? The Nova needs to be fixed up made tidy and SAFE to be on the road! Personally i,d chuck the six, and put a 283 or 302 with manual trans, wheels are good nice deep dish unlike modern wheels, either paint the body or wrap too look like it does now but without big chunks of paint falling off.

On the 89 F-150, I’d say clean and check or replace the IAC valve, that is probably the case if you have to hold the pedal so it doesn’t die and takes a while to start
I was going to post this, you beat me to it. Ford IAC valves are voice coil actuators and are famous for sticking. The cranking air-fuel ratio probably is calibrated assuming the IAC is in the ‘cranking’ position, it might be a tad lean if you’re starting it with the gas pedal and a stuck IAC. It’s been a while since I calibrated Ford EEC-IVs but I recall something about that.
