    Great review as usual, love that you added the food stop into the mix. Interesting to see simple good food is still cheap there, and all gear shops in Japan are cluttered and contain way too much stuff but fun

      Thank you. Since I posted my video, a few others from seven years ago popped into my feed, and so much of the storefronts have stayed the same. I will try to include food on all outings going forward.
      The choices are mind numbing. I could do an entire video on cables, for example.
      You should see what it’s like selecting a mobile phone and a carrier. I don’t know how Japanese seniors do it.

      Thank very much Dave. Yeah, I’ve yet to come across any bargain priced McIntosh gear and the vintage stuff is priced with big premiums.

      @ricefieldrecords  Год назад +1

      Yeah. Used audio gear is priced much lower and there are better bargains to be had. Deep discounts for what seem to be minor needed repairs. Let me know when you wanna visit for a shopping trip.

    Those speakers are definitely Klipsch Cornwalls. Just not sure which version? No front ports so I’m assuming earlier version.
    What an eye candy.
    Probably best to stay away from temptation. At least I speak for myself.
    Loving these store expeditions of yours Michael. Great stuff. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

      Thank you Mariusz. Big things coming in early November. I’m going to do Fremer-like videos at the audio show. I have some interesting interview angles percolating. Maybe Dr. Kirmuss will be here…

    At around 5:00 in the video(or just before) is that gorgeous turntable - the gray record mat is a made in japan jpy 40k/$300 mat that gives off negative ions permanently which reduces static on records - the Shibuya HMV upstairs has one and it supposedly makes a big difference. Great stuff Michael keep it coming :)

    • @ricefieldrecords
      @ricefieldrecords  Год назад

      I will check out that mat. I use a Milty ZeroStat and give it 5 pulls or so, pointing at the spindle hole. I'm so mindful of static these days. It really is a root cause of pops and clicks. I had no idea. I plan to get a couple of problem records deep cleaned next week at the Audio Fair. I really want to see if there is a demonstrable difference. I don't see any ultrasonic cleaners in Japan. People use liquid cleaners here and hand wash.

    • @tokioPK
      @tokioPK Год назад

      @@ricefieldrecords Japanese love the pain and 'gaman' of cleaning records manually ;) But there's also a chain of thought that ultrasonic cleaners wear of plastic from the records when over used. My family biz used to be jewelry manufacturing where they use a lot of ultrasonic cleaners for removing dirt from gold jewelry before polishing it - so yes ultrasonic cleaners -can be- harsh for metal let alone plastic records. Look fwd to your results post cleaning! How's invites work, you call them and ask for one as a buyer?

    • @ricefieldrecords
      @ricefieldrecords  Год назад

      @@tokioPK It’s a good thing you posed the question. I thought it was Kirmuss, but they are not attending. I checked their site and they are exhibiting at an audio show in Warsaw.
      Their (Kirmuss) pitch at trade shows is “bring us up to 2 records and we’ll clean them free of charge”. Ah well. No ultrasonic products listed in the show guide in Tokyo.
      Back to the Japanese. You are 100% correct. They prefer the ritual of hand washing and DIY. I bought a window wet vacuum from Karcher in Germany; after seeing a RUclips video from a guy in Japan. Tabletop, towel, and spray bottles. They don’t have the space or the budget for ultrasonic cleaners. And PS. I agree. The jury is still out on microscopic bubbles exploding with energy against a vinyl record surface.

      @@ricefieldrecordsTry to check out Magnapans ribbon speakers. Great value and sound. Only downside, need to be pull from the front wall and require quite a bit of power to get the most out of them. With that being said, an amazing value for money. IMHO

    Michael. Man you really delivered on this vid! Lots of effort and I’m hanging onto this vid for reference for a future visit to Japan. Saw a few Luxman PD-151 TTs. The Accuphase gear has to be more affordable over there. The Dusty Springfield LP you filmed is being rereleased by Acoustic Sounds.
    Any thought of doing a vid of some of the Jazz bars? I’ve watched a few vids from many years ago.
    Nice work Michael👍👍🎉🎉

    • @ricefieldrecords
      @ricefieldrecords  Год назад

      Jazz Bar filming is tough. Not sure if the owners will be comfortable with that or not. Big emphasis is on privacy here. Typically, the first thing they say is "no customers please" and "no license plates" (Okayama was a big car culture). I included Shinjuku "DUG" Kissa in my video "Tokyo: Oldest Jazz Kissa, New Japanese Art, Rock & Soul Vinyl at Disk Union Shinjuku, Kabuki Theater" but it's a little tight and claustrophobic. It'll happen though. Big trend here for new record stores is the cafe addition. Buy records and eat a meal. I have not been to one of those yet, but will. I doubt I'll ever buy a new amp, but I will buy vintage. So much beautiful design and great engineering here. Both Luxman and Accuphase are beautiful. Thanks for the reminder about Dusty in Memphis. The vintage ones are too expensive. I only have it on remastered CD, but I will have an eye out for it.
