RECORD BOY - hardcore punk & thrash/death/black/doom metal
I just watched this again. It's a shames it has so few views. I love the idea and every song was excellent. I picked up that Ike and Tina record by the way.
Thank you Richard. Very much appreciated. Thanks for letting me know about “Working Together”; the opening track is butter. And I love that Al Kooper song so much. He’s really getting on in age right now. We email each other from time to time. RUclips informs me my audience is mostly males my age, so low views come with the territory. But if you make a video on the same topic, please tag me. And remember; old farts like us will never go out of vogue. Cheers!
Acoustic Grove System diffusers everywhere🥳😊
I noticed that too. Likely rented. Same as the furniture and the houseplants. It’s a concrete and steel building and they’re all in there for just a few days.
@@ricefieldrecords possible but you can rent anything and they probably chose the best they could find. I hope to try them soon💫 Simply LOVE ❤️ the design. And they are unanimously reviewed very positively
Glad to see you with a nice plug on the Fremer video.
I was thrilled
I liked piano on YG setup.
Last year they had no foreign representatives speaking. YG floored me with a presenter speaking Japanese. That is very rare.
looks like a dcent shop.
@@NotSuitableForMum I have yet to come across another one of its kind in Japan
What a great idea. I wonder if there is something similar for Canada.
Check out recordstores(dot)love It is a global directory of stores
@@ricefieldrecords Ah thanks Michael
Would love to attend one of these events. I’m not really an audiophile but I’m fascinated by the passion people have for music and sound. Great video.
Me too. This session stood out for as a foreigner presented to the audience in Japanese. No small feat. I hope the guy sees this video and my comment here; and perhaps the two of us can get together for an interview at the next fair on October’25. Cheers!
YG did a demo years ago in the concert hall. Band played first and then a carbon copy of that performance was played back via their speakers/system. Point of it was, if the audience could tell the difference between live and recorded performance. I don’t have a link but I’m sure it can still be found somewhere on YT.
I hope you can find it and post the link here at some point. Yeah, a Colorado company and unknown to me before this fair. They’ll be back exhibiting in October’25 for the next fair, I’m sure.
Great website! That looks very helpful.
Japan does so many interesting things that you really don’t see anywhere else….very cool Michael!
Thank you!
Nice soundtrack with the Messy Marv
I grew quite fond of it in the editing process and I love the lyrics. Yeah duh 😊
I think it needs a blu ray release
Wow, what an awesome site… Hooray for community contributions. as for the business succession section… I think that would be really useful for vinyl cafés as well
I’d say the number of record stores with a cafe component are growing in number at pace with new traditional record stores. They are event driven with guest DJs as well. So yes, succession opps are likely a given.
Hooray Okayama namecheck, really glad I got to meet you at that record fair and even more glad we had a wonderful afternoon in my kura together
I hope you are mobile enough soon to get to Okayama and visit Orab and Harioto. I can’t say enough good things about them. Medel Music too and Groovin in Omotecho.
Although still a work-in-progress, Recoya proved to be helpful during my month long travels across Japan earlier this summer. Very helpful resource for record (and record store) hunters. Thanks for the explainer, you digger you!
If you Blog or post about your record shopping and use of Recoya, please point me to it. Thanks very much for your comment.
Nice vid, Michael. Recoya is a nice resource for sure. Salute to there person who had compiled all the information and to you for promoting it. By the way, don’t quote me on it but it might be pronounced “Reco - Ya” as is “レコー屋”, meaning “Record + Shop” like 八百屋 “Yaoya” (vegetable + shop) or 米屋 (rice + shop), and a little like “Recofan” :-)
I'm not an audiophile yet found this very interesting. 😊 thanks for the video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Some lovely bits of kit there vmate. Shame my ears are too knackered to fully appreciate the sound quality. Did anything really catch your ear sand eyes? Gotta say they had some weird looking speakers on some of them,
Well you know, my objective is editorial and not acquisition. It all sounded incredible. Not a bad one in the bunch. Triode is in a price area that would meet my budget. That’s all tube based and the HQ is near my home. I may visit and make a video there, if they are amenable. But Accuphase and Luxman; even the vintage kit retains its value. I have an early Luxman that I’m quite happy with so not actively on the hunt.
'Up all night..with Freddie King. I got to tell you, poker's his thang.'
What's the difference between an accordion and an onion? I like the Freya Ridings song. Reminds me of Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter, whom I love.
The presenter is the founder of the company which I found fascinating.
@@ricefieldrecords He clearly loves his products! I liked him.
Thanks for sharing, Michael
Great stuff, Ricey. Super efficient and expensive stuff. I can dream can't I? The Accuphase A-300 is the power to get if you listen to modern classical recordings, especially smaller chamber group stuff, or 'acoustic ' jazz. And then everything else.
Wow. Hard to believe shops are selling VHS tapes. I think the last VHS machine production in Japan stopped a few years ago? So interesting to see how the style of merchandising varies from shop to shop.
New cassettes are making a comeback in Japan in a big way too. Luckily the VHS tape stuff is used. The players are everywhere though. Yes, every store is different with its own signature. The new record stores are gallery-level ambience or restaurant oriented. I'll get to those too.
Wow some gear. Was that a Accuphase phono stage in the ortofon room as well? Amazing eye candy in all rooms. Whilst I listen to all types of music most of the music choices were traditional conservative safe choices to show off gear.
Yes. On the media cart that was an Accuphase amplifier in service in the Ortofon room. I was pleasantly surprised the Accuphase staff auditioned a CD from an audience member, but by and large the music being auditioned was opera, Japanese city pop, conservative Jazz and orchestra. It's a display show and not a selling show. That point was clarified to me by one of the vendors. Thanks for commenting.
"Audio show"? You can't show audio! You hear audio! When will these people learn anything! With that said, feel free to send me one of those turntables. I promise not to complain when you do, provided that you do a good job of packaging it.
Look up TechDAS; that TT featured prominently in many of the rooms. According to one visitor who chatted me up; it boasts the most expensive tonearm in the world.
Watching this I realize how little I know about Audio
Every room sounded fantastic. I found it hard to differentiate one from the other. Some were million dollar configurations....
Esoteric gear looked chic 👍
truly
A man can dream.. right? Amazing engineering and precision.
exactly (pardon the pun)
One thing I have noticed with these stores is that they seem to take a lot of care with what they have, even if it's not particularly rare. I dunno if the thrift stores are the same but all to often i have gone ito places and stuff is just wedegd into boxes so tightly that you can't even go through them properly. again, a lot of stuff here I've never heard of but no less interesting. Keep em coming.
Only the 7" 45's were used. All of the 12" records in the shop were new reissues. The Japanese take extremely good care of their possessions. In the 60s & 70s it was common for them to purchase and record to tape. Also, according to Mrs. Rice, foreign records were cool and often times they bought for the jackets and the novelty and never played them; but I've never gotten that corroborated.
Thanks for the tour. NAT Records is on the top of my list of (6) Shinjuku stores to visit in a couple weeks.
Not my stuff. Still, it's a cool store.
That’s the spirit! PS - got a bunch of ‘24 Audio Fair videos in the hopper that are going to blow you away
@@ricefieldrecords Looking forward to 'em!
Cowboys 🤠 International were great 👍 ! Very early Post-Punk band. Pointy Shoes a classic track.
Thanks for watching and commenting as always, David
Nice tour Michael. Well I recognized about seven bands out of all those 😁😁. Cheers.
They got some good stuff ion that store. Not much I've actually listened to, but some class rock and metal bands in that lot.
Thanks so much for posting this! “Mr Odinga the actor Tom M’Boya (Thomas F Moore) is my father
Not much I'm familiar with but that Black lips shaped disc looked ace.
awesome song
hang on, i'm 0:02 seconds into this video and I see a Who bin!!! I translated the Japanese chatter into 'why gaijin not frilming Who bin, what wong with him'? Although happy to get big price shots this time. I have never seen that Souvenir bootleg but I wouldn't pay £30 for it either! I wonder what the sound quality is like. Who-la-hoop...why? I bet Roy Wood would be interested to know he's selling for £80 wow!
Enjoying the new multi screen look, works well
I had planned to visit this store in 3 weeks time, so thank you very much for the feature. Nathan from @JayJayTokyo suggested your channel for me.
So were you able to complete your collection of Kiss comics?
When I saw all that KISS memorabilia I just knew it needed to be featured.
@@ricefieldrecords Mm-hmm.
There's less than a hand full of these artists I know and less than that I've listened to. Looks like a cool shop though.
My next two stores are going to be in your sweet spot, Jason.
@@ricefieldrecords Look forward to it
I love those MuslimGauze records.
Could never really get into most Jazz, Stuff like Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald and the like probably appealed to me more than anything else. Maybe Glen Miller to some extent, Louis Armstring is probably my favourite,
@@NotSuitableForMum You did stay for the rare Apple 45’s near the end?
@@ricefieldrecords I did but no clue as to what those are so didn't know they were rare, Kinda cool though if those are hard to come by. I confess it's not something I know anything about.
Never really got in to punk apart from what i heard in the UK charts. Maybe at 7 i was a bit too young to really appreciate it, Looks like they had a fine selection in there though.
Did you buy anything? If yes will you do a video showing what you bought? Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
Unfortunately not. I plan to go to some of the exhibiting Tokyo stores to explore and do more videos. I’m posting Tokyo record store videos on a weekly basis now. Cheers!
Man, a lot of the stuff from Oldies But Goodies looks fabulous. Interesting to see all of the comedy albums. Man, those used to be a thing. I remember listening to Brother Dave Gardner and Shelley Berman albums over and over.
The comedy stuff was amazing to hold in my hands in Japan. Oldies But Goodies is in Tokyo. I sent them a note asking if they would be amenable to a visit and a video.
Wow to find such a large source of one type of music is amazing and the chap definitely knows his stuff. It wa slike entering a time capsule. Those first Elvis recordings are a sight to be hold and whilst not a fan ,they would take prode of place on any collection. Thank you Michael.
My pleasure, Jason. All of the independent single proprietor stores have their own unique fingerprint. Check out my newest video with the comedy records from the 60s. It’s amazing these things are in Japan.
