Great question. I've mostly used my MacBook Pro plugged in with Arc. That said, they did just add a feature that freezes tabs to save CPU power. This might help with battery power. The release notes can be found here: resources.arc.net/en/articles/8233343-release-notes

I was SO skeptical when hearing about Arc initially. Was a heavy Chrome user (actually used a Chromebook), but bought a MacBook to use Arc, literally after seeing it on Andra's computer. That’s amazing that you got to meet Josh from Arc! Seems like a good reason to visit Paris 🗼 super excited to see the content you guys will make.
Thanks for watching! The sidebar is definitely the hardest thing for me to get past. I especially find it challenging with sites that already have their primary navigation vertically aligned.
The other factor is the screen real estate that the sidebar takes up. I can hide it but lose the ability to quickly see and change tabs.
All that said, I do believe Arc has an innovative that will find ways to develop and adapt the tool as they grow.

    • @efficientapp

@@thebeautifulmessshow Haha yep! See, don't take having access to Arc for granted! With the hidden sidebar (for which I do only on-the-go, when docked in a screen, I leave it expanded), I am trying to get more used to CTRL + Spacebar (which opens up the sidebar and shows the current tab), along with CTRL + Tab (which is like an CMD + tab but within recent browser tabs). Between those 2 shortcuts, I can get around decently with it not expanded. A bit of tough muscle memory to initially build up though!

I've been using vivaldi for a bit now and I was interested in the sidebar tab option but I find that they need to have the page titles be right-aligned, so that the start gets cut off before the end. We already have a favicon before the title to show the domain/service so having it's name again immediately after that is a waste of very valuable space. I end up with 6 tabs that all say "▶ RUclips - ...". Right alignment would mean I can keep the bar small and still see which specific page each item is, so instead of the above you'd get: "▶... - Top 10 DANKEST Cat Memes 2023"

Oh I like that idea. I believe Arc's tidy tabs might have a solution that renames tabs to something more human friendly instead of the typical long SEO optimized titles.
You're right though that some of these browsers could better handle the layout so that people see the most important information.

The "Spaces" are of most interest to me, at present, as I have well over 100 tabs in Chrome under seven different Groups, and am looking for something that could simplify this and make it look less cluttered. I was a die-hard Firefox fan-boy for many, many years, until they started messing with the engine and most of my beloved extensions stopped working. Apparently, there is a growing trend of weird people who feel the need to open dozens of tabs at the same time. So they're like "OMG - I can't read my tabs". So putting them in vertical folders helps them "organize". I don't get it myself. I just close tabs that I don't need, like most normal people. But to each their own, I guess.
Personally, I'm on Windows and prefer Edge. I 'could' do the same thing with vertical tabs. Or I can use Favorites or Collections... or a combination of all three. I like having different options. Kind of ironic that Microsoft (of all people) offers all these choices. But here we are.

I hear you. There are many Chromium browsers that are poorly done.
I will say Google does a great job at making a browser. I also love their Pixel phone. It’s just no nonsense good. I switched from a Pixel to an iPhone and there are certain aspects of the Pixel that are hard to beat.

Downloaded. Installed. Was greeted with a window that requires me to sign in. Uhhhh - I don't create accounts just to use a browser. Sorry, hard pass.

Was there any way to bypass the login requirement? I guess that might be somewhat unusual. Chrome has the ability to login, but they don’t force it.
What browser do you currently use?

@@thebeautifulmessshowThe truth is, I don't use the Mac much. I use Linux, Windows, and Android all the time, the Mac not so much. I didn't put any real effort into figuring out how to bypass the login. As for browsers, I have multiple browsers installed on each of my machines/devices. My primary browser is a Firefox hardened with Narsil's user.js and ublock origin. If/when Arc is released for the devices I use the most, I may give Arc another try.

It’s your loss as Arc definitely is worth the effort of creating an account.

The whole fixation on Mac is so cringe though. Seriously, I'll never understand why people use that crap OS as it is essentially the exact same thing as Microsoft Windows (just a different master). If you know, you know.

Hello Friend! They’re working on making Arc available for Windows. Should hopefully be available in the next few months. What is your favorite browser on Windows?

Not very impressed... boosting a site just another example of wasting time instead of getting done what needs to get done. Edge is the way to go... (for me) I see nothing here that can't easily be done in any other modern browser.... but who knows what their future will bring to this app....

    • @thebeautifulmessshow

I will say the biggest thing for me to get over is the sidebar vs top navigation.
I didn't know if I would ever use Boost either, but I actually found that after really trying while making the video it is actually kind of nice. Definitely not necessary. But I love being able to clean up sites like RUclips or Facebook which have stuff that you never use. While not a necessary feature it is a lot more useful on sites you use on a regular basis. In that sense it could save time and enhance your experience by reducing unnecessary distractions.
It will be interesting to see how the innovations of Arc impacts other browsers. Edge is a popular Chrome alternative.

If they keep up the pace, I wouldn't be surprised if the android version gets released in the next year.
