Wendy Parmet, professor of law, public policy, and urban affairs at Northeastern University, discusses her recent book Constitutional Contagion: COVID, the Courts, and Public Health.

Wendy and Sam then expand on this as they move into the 21st Century, tackling the mass politicization of the courts, the emergence of the Federalist Society, the Roberts Court’s belief in individualism, and the culmination of the GOP’s attack on the administrative state, assessing how these elements served to undermine and gut the state of US public health, coming to a head with the COVID-19 pandemic. Wrapping up, Professor Parmet tackles the current moment in US public health, and the impact of the recent decimation of the US public health system on our already fraying social contract.

If showing conservative inconsistency meant conservatives would reconsider their opinions or feel embarrassed then stuff like this would be more meaningful.

To be clear, The Bible, in 1 Cor 5 or 2 Cor 5, instructs believers to not judge those outside the church, that we are to only judge those within the church, those w our same beliefs…What I’m saying is that these poli-christians that want a theocracy are actually disobeying God’s word. Have a nice day, Lord bless you all

Race blindness, aka history blindness, is as relevant to interpreting the law as religion blindness. All that shit is silently coded into legal decisions. All of the arguments in support of things like racism, patriarchy, slavery, homophobia are entirely religious arguments and by definition are closely held beliefs and unconstitutional for creating legislation. Those ideas are not suitable for the basis of legislation on it's own, except that this SCOTUS scrapped the Lemon test a few years ago as this activist court has the project of creating legal chaos where it can advance conservative policies which it would not be able to otherwise advance through democratic processes. All of this is to point out.... did you read Sydney Powell's texts to Mark Meadows? They are on some eschatological bullshit.

@@AllFascistsCanSuckIt Sorry you feel that way. My guess is that your problems are not really w Jesus or His teachings, but rather w someone(s) who represented themself as a Christian and then acted in a completely different manner. That’s what my post was for, to share the truth that many Christians don’t know, as well as to inform others who haven’t read or studied the Bible what the words truly say. Peace

I don't think that someone's freedom of religion should trump the rest of the citizens (different religion or no religion) right to life because those others don't want a vaccine. Life and health should trump any single religion.

Starting with the first one, these are the most laborious questions I have heard in like, you know, what I mean that is, in ages. How did you prepare for this? Or did you? They were excruciating to listen too.

What religious doctrine say you can't get vaccinated? Neither the Torah, Bible or Quran has any rules against vaccination.

I watch every day. I love this podcast - but - I swear on this one we’ll all grow old and grey, waiting for both Sam and Wendy to get to the end of a sentence. And I hate feeling that way when the stakes are this high.

I speed up all Sam monologues and interviews to 1.25 in settings cause I lose understanding of the subject waiting for him to finish a sentence. I love this show just wish Sam would be able to have his questions prepared.

Be careful about lionizing Scalia here. I imagine that case comes out differently in the case weren't about indigenous people consuming peyote.

No, he would have caved just like he did on 99% of issues. His writing was just an educated edgy right-winger taking shots at his enemies in the writings of the court.
5-4 does a wonderful job of breaking down why he’s a windbag who’s writing is way overrated
