Another cool vid man. One guy I don't really hear about is John Kuc, he had a 2,350 raw total all the way back in 1972 (905 squat with light wraps/ace bandages, 600 raw bench, and 845 raw deadlift). Those are still great raw numbers for today and they were set 50 years ago. Another one would be Doug Furnas even though he didn't really have the longevity factor like other competitors, he had a 2,400 total I believe at a time when only two other guys had attained that (Kazmaier, Coan).
Mark Henry is always in my top 5 best lifters of all time. He set all kinds of records in powerlifting, weightlifting, strongman and pro wrestling. Competed at the Olympics and some of his records still haven't been beat yet.
I mean, I'm not trying to be a kiss ass, but you have to be pretty high up on that list. Based on your own criteria 1. Great longevity, competing from 1998 to 2017. 2. Set world records in raw and multi-ply lifting. 3. Puts out tons of free videos. A free live stream every Wednesday and does seminars. You meet all the qualifications to be on this list.
Wow thanks! There’s some really great lifters on this list 💪🏾 Some I know and some I don’t know. So now I have some awesome and fun research to do. Thanks again Mr. Wenning🙏🏾
Hey Matt amazing lifters. I was wondering have you ever heard of Chris Confessore? He is my dad he did a 741 bench at 236 lbs in a shirt in the mid early 90's
Chris Jr., how did your first contest go? I remember your dad. He held the bench press record, using the bench shirt. I have his book on building a bigger bench press.
Dave Hoff, Blaine Sumner, and John Haack are some modern lifters who absolutely dominate. Doug Hepburn, Hideaki Inaba, Anthony Clark are also some pretty great old school lifters.
John haack is just a meme at this point he does everything wrong and is successful because of his genetics now that’s not to say that’s the only reason but it plays a big role
@@johny.3400 You'll get your deadlift up no problem, i always start at 60 kg and do sets of 5 with increasing weight after each set so 60kg for 5 then 70 for 5 80 for 5 then if im doing a 1 rep max ill go 90 for 1 then 110kg, building up to whatever weight im attempting, for example ill build up to 130kg for 1 rep on monday then im attempting 150kg so 20kg jump, dont know if any of this will help you but goodluck mate
Working out at Larry's gym changed my life. I had no idea what I was walking into when I stepped into his gym. He is in the top three most important people of my life. I say this at age 60.
Ed Coan is probably a candidate for most dominate athlete period. Michael Phelps in swimming, Gable in wrestling, Lewis in track and field, and possibly a few others are his only competition. He’s also a Chicago guy, like me, and has a reputation around the city for being a humble, down-to-earth guy.
Doug Young, Louie Simmons, Chuck Vogelpohl, Matt Wenning (not because this is your channel, but because of the knowledge you possess and share with the world), Richard “The Ant” Hawthorne.
Ed Coan, John Haack, Lamar Gant, David Ricks (talk about longevity), Andrey Malanichev, Dan Green, the physique and total; and, someone I've always been inspired by, particularly as he prepares for a big pull, Richard "The Ant" Hawthorne. I kinda get emotional for him when he approaches the bar; the stoic face with the tears dripping down his cheek, damn.
Some other guys to add to your list are kirk karnowski, jon kuc, john Cole, doug young, etc. So many good lifters and just raw strength guys back then. Your list is pretty solid already along with the honorable mentions.
Kuc was better than Cole by far. Karwoski was a great squatter, but not great in the other two lifts. He didn't have much competition at 275 during most of his career (he had 1 competitor at 2 of the USPF Nationals he won).
Lamar Gant would certainly be worthy of consideration. 16 world championships, 71 world records and the first powerlifter to hold the world record for all 3 lifts in his weight class simultaneously.
Chris Duffin is a great example. As someone who not only held world records and Guinness world records, has had numerous injuries and learned from them in a fashion that allowed him to give back to the powerlifting community and beyond.
The old school powerlifters are still the best .... the wraps, suits, and bench shirts were nothing compared to today! But you still have to put Eric Lilliebridge, Dan Bell, Dan Green, Kevin Oak, Stan Efferding..... so many to list! Way to many to list
