  • I've seen a lot of reviews on these guitars and quite honestly, I feel many of the reviews are biased...here's an honest unbiased review!

It all comes down to the old saying “You get what you pay for”, but it looks like a good guitar to modify and make it your own (which is what I would do)! Great video and new subscriber!!

Got a yeller Garry GTL. Delivered earlier this week. eBay vendor purchase. $68.40 out the door - delivered. Pluses: Beautiful gloss finish. Nice chrome. I have not thoroughly checked it, but my quick inspection- Maple Fretboard nice, but needs to be cleaned of a film of sorts. Frets appear to be level. Neck level. Action OK, not high or low. (I have TEMU Luthier tools enroute -when I receive them, I will do a more exact inspection of neck, frets and action.) One suspicious thing about my Garry GTL: The vendor may have sent me a returned guitar. The pick guard did not have a protective plastic attached and there appears to be pick scuffing. Also the strings are super shiny at the frets, indicating they have been played. The strings are not good, I have new strings which should arrive with my TEMU Luthier kit. Electronic control switches looked good and work well. I remember when I was fourteen years old (5 decades ago) buying my first Sears no-name budget electric guitar. I ended up hating that strat wanna-be. it had very high action and I suffered playing it. By comparison, this GTL is a dream guitar, the irony is I paid about the same price for the piece of junk from Sears Roebuck 50 years ago. The Garry is a nice, cheap, but well-constructed guitar that can be upgraded. By the way. tomorrow I remove strings. (recycled), clean the fingerboard, and polish the frets. I am happy with the GTL.

Basically, an inexpensive kit finished and put together. The beauty and fun is in making a damn hotrod out of it!

I think an honest review would be one that would not have an appearance of a conflict of interest.
And so that would require an objective measurement of the guitar. So you could take a fret rocker to see if the frets were level, measure the nut clearance and the action. Tell us the resistance and inductance of the pickups. Show us if the tuning pegs work. Intonate the guitar and see if it in fact can be intonated. And then measure the neck dimensions to see if the neck is not too big or too small. Maybe does the jack work especially on these cheap guitars.
And I guess make sure the electronics work and maybe what the pot sizes were and if the bridge is grounded.
The cost of the guitar should be irrelevant to the review of the guitar.
And certainly the headstock is something that all reviewers seem to want to show first but I have no idea why. Also all the reviewers seem to go over the looks of the guitar which all people looking at the guitar can see for themselves. So I always wonder why it is people do that.

There are few things that this thing is good for. If you're not sure what you're looking for in a guitar and wish to experiment with different pickups, controls, in-phase-out-of-phase push-pull shenanigans -- go for it. If you're a wannabe luthier looking for a first refret or refinish practice job -- go for it. If you're playing live and don't want your precious guitar get dinged, scratched or stolen, go for it. That being said, one must be aware, that no natter how much you invest in this guitar-shaped object, and no matter how good it sounds afterwards, it will still remain Glarry, and its resale value will be virtually non-existent.

Glarry guitars definitely aren't for beginners. They require far too much setup that beginners just don't have the skills to do. Glarry guitars are for beginner modders who are trying to learn how to mod on cheap guitars so they can be more confident modding nicer guitars.

I quite like the figuring on the fretboard, I would gloss the fretboard and get a high polish on it, I have a collection of decent hardware that I took off a few Harley Benton guitars that I modded and would make this a much better guitar.
How good is the clear coat on this model? does it require additional sanding and polishing?

My problem with the Glarry Strat was it just was too damn light and felt cheap. I don't want to feel like I'm holding a Rock Jam guitar for a game. Yes, a bit exaggerated but by not much.

Mine is fine. All I had to do was change the pickups, the switch, the neck, and the saddles. I'll probably change the tuners too. Still I'm under $300 and it's better than a Squier. It didn't need all that, you could really just change the pickups but be warned you will have to rout the bridge a little to make an aftermarket fit.
