Great video in the rain. I know you were pressed for time but a reflector/back-screen for your campfire will usually draw away a lot of the smoke. You bring back happy memories of outings with my brother when we were Boy Scouts.

In regards to the ticks have you ever thought about spraying your clothing with permethrin? Will keep most bugs off you for days.
I've heard of it never used it yet tho. Guna have to give it a shot this spring!

There are two types ones naturally occurring called pyrethrum. The man made stuff is synthetic called permethrin. Spray it around your house to keep spiders and other bugs out.

Not enough room for the tent and I wanted to test it to see how waterproof it really was straight from factory.

I camp a lot myself and i use a tick and mosquito repellent called repel tick defense it’s sold at Walmart it comes in a red can and since I started using it two years ago i haven’t had a tick on me at all it’s not deet it’s something else I hope you give it a try thanks again for the great videos and I am subbing to your channel

Wrap your shins in double sided tape - see how many tics you stop - I’m in Minnesota and I usually get 50 - 75 of em -

Spring of 1998, I got bit by a nymph in the middle of the night... I was delirious and IN THE E.R. BY SUPPERTIME ... It was bad... a pepper spec crawled to a warm spot from the sheet I pulled off the clothesline the day before... I found it dead ... and I had a hot, read leathery patch where it had been... with the bullseye in the middle... IT HAPPENED FAST... AND I NEVER SAW IT COMING... No doubt this was a real freak incident... but BE AWARE... take precautions and use DEET when you go outside to commune with nature
PS I love your rant... People DO need to get out in nature more .. I lived with snakes and opossums and raccoons and poison sumac and bees and ALL OF IT when I was growing up, and never had a bad incident, except a few bee stings that were remedied in minutes and a bad bout with poison ivy before I learned to identify it ... I miss it more than words can express ... and it was living in a house years later that the tick got me
I never have any luck keeping them off with deet. I think I'm going to try permethrin next season heard that works wonders.

Hey I know im very late to the game here but when I heard that very unique sound is when I witnessed ball lightning dropping down- Ball lightning is energised plasma spheres which can be extremely dangerous -of course!! - So glad you didnt spend time runnin' round with those chasin' ya!!

Is there not spray or a candle or sticky paper or a collar or something you can use?
They have a spray for tick and skeeter by OFF that I've used before that didn't do its job at all. I've also used the deepwoods kind as well with same result. You can also put duct tape backwards around your boots but they're not always going to come from the ground.

This morning I awoke with a joy in my heart as I remembered my rancid wife was off to her demented friends for a few days. This means my dog and I can head off into the wilderness. I decided to really challenge myself and go camping with no kit whatsoever. All I had was my phone. As the clouds covered the sky and the rain fell in great gobs, I sat cold and shivering. So I rang for a cab and went to the nearest hotel for a meal and a nice hot bed. Camping is easy if you prepare :)
