Very enjoyable and informative video of this historic dockyard. I have only visited it once, before restoration got underway. Your video has prompted me to make a return visit and take a fresh look. Thank you.

In hindsight I was glad I visited this in the evening rather than go to the event itself - the light was also good then too
There is much of interest in Gloucester Docks - hope you get a chance to see it again.
      Take care,
      Paul

Hello Paul - greetings from Poland
A lovely video. Very interesting with a superb explanation and commentary about what we were looking at. The history of these old sailing ships is wonderful. The three we saw all certainly had a great working life and are now lovingly looked after.

      Good morning Michael.
Glad you enjoyed it - it is always good to see the Tall Ships back here in the dock again. I had planned to go the following day when the festival was on, but it would have been busy then - and wet! I couldn't have asked for a better evening in terms of light than this one.
      Thanks so much!
      Take care,
      Paul

Thanks Paul- that was so evocative of times gone past! Especially with the backdrop of the wharf buildings on the docks.
It is frightening how 2 of the ships had fires on board- it must be so difficult to overcome as they are made from timber!
It was a lovely site in the evening sunshine.

      @@dianarolph1770 Thank you Diana!
Yes, it was a very enjoyable evening wandering around here with my camera before the crowds descended the following day.
      Glad you enjoyed it.
It is amazing that a couple of these lovely ships were resurrected after serious fires.
      Take care,
      Paul

That was so interesting, thanks you for the photos & the details. It looks like the docks has a distinctive a character & atmosphere of its own. I think you judged it well to see what you did before the madding crowd arrived.

Yes, it looked a beautiful evening so I changed my plans and went the evening before the Festival started - I am so glad I did, because the low angle of the sun gave it all a golden quality and it was easier to get around without the crowds.
      Glad you found it interesting.

Hi Paul, great to see without the crowds and the light was very good. Thanks for explaining the history of each vessel some interesting stories. A perfect setting for them
Very well narrated, well done. Have a great weekend!!

      Glad you enjoyed it.
Yes, it was a last minute decision to be honest. I had just eaten my tea at home, and noticed what a beautiful evening it was, so I decided to head over there straight away instead of filming amongst the crowds the following day.
I think I am glad I did, but if I had gone the next day I could have got on each vessel. You can't have everything.
      Cheers,
      Paul

Hi Paul, great idea visiting beforehand to see them setting things up. I enjoyed learning about the lightboat and had never heard of such a vessel before. I enjoyed this peaceful tour of the docks and it looked like quite a few people had the same idea to visit early!

Yes, it was a bit of a last minute idea to film and photograph the ships in the evening light - hence the voiceover style!
I think I am glad I did it this way though - I could walk around unhindered, but it was good to see a few other phootgraphers doing the same thing.
      Take care,
      Paul

Oh nice!! I would love to see the Tall Ships Festival one year! That’s a great idea you had to capture lots of the footage before it opened. You gave us some really interesting facts alongside your signature superb photography. Thanks for doing all the research to make this video so interesting 🤗

It was a lovely evening light here, and it was good to see the Tall Ships without crowds.
The advantage of going when it is on though is that you get to go on each shop and see all the other events happening.
Glad you enjoyed it and hope you get to see it one day.

Very cool!! We've had several tall ship festivals over the years in the Halifax Harbour here in Nova Scotia. Always a packed festival with some pretty spectacular tall ships!

Yes, they are always very good events - I went to one in Falmouth in Cornwall many years ago (long before I did RUclips) - and that was a huge event.
      Cheers,

Yes it was a good day. Walked along the canal and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of the occasion. Lots of people putiing Glorious Glawster on the map. Great video. Didn't seem to be so many ships this year. If anybody is interested there is a tall ship (think it is French) in dry dock.
