The last thing he did was to play a game with Kirt Hammett as to who would get the top bed. Kirt won. In another dimension, Kirt died and Cliff Burton lives on because it's that bed that got struck by a driver.
You have definitely got to check out Cliff Burton's individual bass track on this song. His bass playing was definitely unique. You absolutely must listen to "Orion" from the "Master of Puppets" album at some point. The beginning of this song was written by Dave Mustaine and later used it in the Megadeth song "Hangar 18" which you reacted to a while back Lilly. Cliff Burton was also really into the Cthulu mythos by Howard Phillips Lovecraft. The novella "The Shadow over Insmouth" was adapted by Metallica on the song "The Thing That Should Not Be" on the "Master of Puppets" album.
Sounds like you are essentially recommending that LillyJane do a full-album reaction to the Master Of Puppets album? 😀 I concur, even if that's not what you're doing, lol.
before this song I was a casual Metallica fan, but this so blew my mind at the tender age of 10 that I became a fanatic. i love how much all pushed themselves without a single lyric. Cliff Burton was the mastermind who pushed Jaymz Lars & Kirk to outshine anything i'd ever herd before .
You really can't go wrong with their albums "Kill em All", or "Master of Puppets", or even "And Justice for All". Any of those 3 are pure metal greatness.
If you listen carefully, you'll notice that the opening of this song is the same as Hangar 18 by Megadeth, just with a different tone and played more slowly.
Next Album - MASTER OF PUPPETS! That one and Lightning are my two favorite. That said - I think i speak for many of us- wondering after hearing this whole album is there a song or two that really stood out to you as a personal favorite(s). ?
My personal favorite Metallica albums. 1-Master of Puppets 2-...And Justice for All 2-Ride the Lightning (tied with Justice) 4-S&M 1&2 (Symphony Metallica is something else) 5-Saint Anger (Quite different from the rest.) Also 5- Through The Never Live album 7-Black Album 8-Reload (Fuel, Memory Remains, Devil Dance are all on S&M 1 and often better there, The Unforgiven 2, Better than you, Where The Wild things are) 8-Hardwired to self destruct (Lord of Summer, Hardwired, Halo on Fire, Moth Into The Flames, Atlas Rise) 10-Kill Em All (First Metallica Album) 11-Load (King Nothing, Hero of the Day) 12-Death Magnetic (Cyanide but from the Through the Never Album, also from S&M2 The Day That Never Comes and The Unforgiven 3 are phenomenal there)
Kill 'Em All and Master Of Puppets...also 1987's $5.98 EP...cover songs but the introduction of Newsted after Cliff's passing and of course they're all metallicized
I discovered Metallica in 1989 at 13. I zone out and say nothing every time I hear one of their instrumentals. Enjoyed your take on it, and other classics.👍🙂
That’s so funny 😅 I was listening to Metallica one time with a friend and I totally zoned out. I think it was frayed ends of sanity solo. I just stopped mid sentence and rolled my eyes back lol
I haven’t heard this song in a long time. I forgot how epic the ending is! I think I used to listen to the album so much I would just skip to the next song after awhile once the outro started since I knew where it was going, but that was nice to hear it in it’s entirety again. 👍🏻
Like I said before, this really is more Dave than James. I try to imagine James playing these progressions with Dave on the sidelines, but I really can’t. I don’t honestly know if any of his recordings done in the studio made it to the album, but as I said before, this song is like a companion piece to Hangar 18. Most of the main riffs are almost identical, just played in a different time signature and rhythm.
I totally agree with Bobby there-listen to Orion-It's their best instrumental to me. They've got some real rhythms and harmonies going on in THAT one! It never gets old!!
Call of ktulu, the thing that should not be and dream no more amazing songs. I've heard that all nightmare long might be a lovecraftian song but I'll need to relisten
You should do the S&M 1 symphony orchestra album. Metallicas plays with The San Francisco Symphony orchestra live. It’s all live. Just imagine, Metallica with an orchestra. Brilliant!
Thanks for this comment, I was hoping someone would get to this. She should know there is a live high octane symphony orchestra version that is awaiting her
How you gonna tell her to react to S&M when she hasn’t even heard kill ‘em all , master of puppets , and justice for all , black album ? S&M isn’t even a real album
@@sciontc9240 buddy I was just suggesting something just like everyone else in this chat. So if you don’t like my opinions or suggestions then keep it to yourself please
Master of Puppets You already listened to the title track, Master of Puppets, but now is time to listen to the entire record. Battery is the first song on the Master of Puppets record and is a must hear. Hell, the entire record is a must hear.
I have fond memories with this cassette tape and my Walkman when I was like 8 years old being blown away by this. Too young for the Bay Area Thrash scene to see live at the time, but I've been making up for it in my later years seeing Thrash legends killing it in live shows. The Thrash resurgence is here.
I was a natural guitarist... Playing Hemet and satriani long before I understood long division... But it was Cliff Burton that made me want to play the bass... RIP
hey Lilly,i'm a big metallica fan,if you realy want to hear how brilliant Clif burton was, check this song Anesthesia pulling teeth,it's from the kill em all album.i have listened a 1000 times,it still blows my mind away🤘🤘🤘🤘
This one's got it all: ethereal, disturbing, and heavy, in perfectly alternating proportions. For another way to think about the Cthulhu mythos, consider this: a role playing game was created in the early 80s named "Call of Cthulhu"...and besides attempting to investigate and figure out some kind of supernatural mystery, your character's other core goal is to die with as much sanity remaining as possible -- it's one of your stats/attributes (like Health, Agility, etc.). Yeah.
DEFINITELY YOU MUST REACT TO "MASTER OF PUPPETS". THIS ALBUM IS THE NEXT ONE, YOU WILL CLEARLY NOTICE THE BAND'S EVOLUTION MUSICALLY AND LYRICALLY. ENJOY IT!!! 🤘🏼🎶
Cliff Burton is a genius
He died way to young
The last thing he did was to play a game with Kirt Hammett as to who would get the top bed. Kirt won.
In another dimension, Kirt died and Cliff Burton lives on because it's that bed that got struck by a driver.
@@Games-cj8 idk if your autocorrect ran away with itself or not but it’s Kirk Hammett with 2 “K’s”. . . in any dimension, lol!
True. Heartbreaking 💔💔💔
Can you imagine the course of metal if Cliff had survived? So Much More. What an absolute tragedy.
The Romans said: those loved by the gods die young...
‘Orion’ is my favorite instrumental so the ‘Master of Puppets’ album gets my vote 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
She definitely needs to finish Master of Puppets and The Black Album.
Kill em all gets mine
I agree with u 100 pct Master of Puppets, every song kicks major ASS, hands down
Orion and To Live Is To Die are the best
To live is to Die is my favourite instrumental
The Call Of Ktulu by Metallica of their gold thrash metal album is by far their greatest instrumental song ever written.
Orion
and justice for all as well... those ate the top 3 imo..

@@player12gaming89 Yes, "The Thing That Should Not Be" on "Master of Puppets" is also about the Cthulu mythos from H.P. Lovecraft.

Kill'Em All is their 1st album. Whole album is raw classic Metallica. I really think you would like the song The Four Horsemen
nope listen to mechanix
@@alexssalmoran Four Horsemen is light years better than Mechanix. I mean Mustaine even admitted it himself.

All that backing sound which sounds like a grrrooowwwwl

Heavy metal symphony. Tells a story with the music. Fantastic!
Master of Puppets entire album like you have done with Ride the Lightning
"Disposable Heroes". "Battery". off the "Master of Puppets" album
Damage Inc. too...
I sincerely appreciate you just let it play.

Master of puppets then And justice for all. You can here their evolution as a band if you go in order. Love your reactions Lilly ❤️

Ride the Lightning
@@tritotrofo Yep Ride the Lightning is also amazing.
That little Growl you hear is Cliff burtons Bass. He had a hybrid bass that had regular guitar pickups in it.
To Live is to Die is an instrumental dedicated to the passing of Cliff Burton and is worth a listen.
Master of puppets
their second best
Master... Master... Master of Puppets 🤘🤘
Definitely!!!

Orion. That's also an awesome instrumental track

The sounds that catch your attention at 2:09, and 3:06 were Cliff with his unique bass sound

Call of Ktulu Live at Lyceum Theater, London 1984
Thank you Cliff Burton for bringing your musical genius to Metallica... gone too soon, Rest in Metal!!!
Master of Puppets. The growth they had musically between KEA, RTL and MOP is amazing.
KIA ???
Kill im all ?
And AJFA
Love the ending chords of this song. So epic
This is Metallica's best song. It is just a work of art. Masterpiece
Kill Em All is my favorite album. Its their most raw and aggressive. And its their first album.
Definitely check out the Lyceum Theater version of this song. They go absolutely nuts, including Cliff on the bass
You will love "Orion" too!
Master of puppets for sure
The ability to come back to the previous riffs is outstanding and clever
