On the tour for this album, the 1989 Damaged Justice tour, they had a statue of Doris (Lady Justice with no arms, blindfolded) on stage. During this song, they blew up the statue piece by piece. It was just pyro going off in between the sections while people pulled on ropes to shake the statue and break away each part at specific parts of the song, towards the end. It looked amazing and was probably one of the best uses of a prop I’ve ever seen. The statue was there for the entire set and then they destroy it as their last song, before doing encores. At the same time they “blow up” a lighting fixture that then swings down pretty low over their heads and swings back and forth as the lights kinda flicker and swirl. Combine that with the insane pyro show to the war sounds at the beginning of “One”, and in my opinion it’s the best stage show they’ve ever put on. The pyro for “One” is so insane that they aren’t even allowed on the stage while it’s going, because they do “machine gun fire” up the steps and such using pyro. Even after seeing them 15+ times and meeting them in 2009, that 1989 show remains my favorite.
The guitar solo for this song was all Kirk Hammett. James and Kirk harmonize on the guitars a lot as you have heard on this song as well as "Blackened". James did the first guitar solo on "Master of Puppets", the second guitar solo on "To Live is To Die" and the guitar solo for "Nothing Else Matters" from The Black Album. There's also a 1979 movie called "...And Justice For All" which stars Al Pacino that very well could have inspired this song. In the movie, Pacino plays a lawyer who realizes that the justice system is full of corruption and favoritism.
@@Salomon_G You don't really "write" a harmony. You choose which harmony voicing to use with the main melody. But yes, James recorded all rhythms and harmonies up until Load and anybody who disagrees doesn't know what they're talking about.

MetallicA IS timeless!!! And you still got alot of amazing lyrics, solos, and riffs. Yeah don't pay attention to the "No Bass" "Justice For Jason" crew. Jason Newsted said he is happy with the way the album sounds, and its perfect the way it is. Whether or not Jason deserves bass on that album. We have to leave it be cause it will always stay just like it is. Anyway! This album is my favorite when it comes to James Hetfield's voice, his aggressive tone, what I call the real way to spit the truth, metal style lol. Kirk's solos are some of the best also. And btw, James has a few solos, but mostly it's Kirk. James uses his playing as an instrument, like another drum, but with the chunk of the guitar. He does have the most lethal right hand in metal. That's a fact haters!!!
This album was my first Metallica album back in 1988. Got it from a friend recorded on a cassette and listened to it for days and nights. It was hard for me to understand the lyrics since I'm not native English speaker and my English was still fresh. Was 14 at that time. But I understood enough. It's Metallica's best album in my opinion. I still have that cassette. But the guy I got it from has passed away since
Your reaction to the Harmonic Divebomb at the end of the solo.... I swear I've never laughed so much before at a reaction video. That is probably 1 of my favorite solos to play just because of that

This is another great song that reminds me why they were in the Big Four. It's far more than just record sales, as revisionists try to argue. No other band at the time, thrash or otherwise, was making music quite like this. Nearly ten minutes long, yet not one wasted second.
James only played the 2nd solo in To Live is To Die on the And Justice For All album. He has only contributed a handful of solo's throughout Metallica's career. Here is the list if you are interested: Master of Puppets 1st solo Orion 2nd solo (via the booklet, likely means the harmonized guitars) To Live is To Die 2nd solo Nothing Else Matters end solo My Friend of Misery harmonized solo The House Jack Built Thorn Within Outlaw Torn ending (as well as the clean lead before Kirk's solo) Carpe Diem Baby Turn The Page Whiskey in the Jar Overkill 2nd solo Damage Case 2nd/end solo Too Late Too Late 2nd solo Stone Dead Forever 1st, 2nd, & 3rd solo The Ecstasy of Gold Suicide & Redemption 1st (non-wah) solo, whole solo on GH3 JH version Just A Bullet Away Now That We're Dead lead before final chorus
The tom tom plan was the first i covered and integrate to my young drummer life .( Without a drum at home yet in 1990 ) ...last mellenium ....and the t shirt ...".the hammer of justice cruches you " ..16 ......Metallica was my family
Good song. I like the lyrical content regarding how the rich get away with so much more than you and I, well until Judgement Day. It goes with the axiom "Rich people go to court, poor people go to prison"
Kirk played the solo. James played all the rhythm guitars, and if i'm not mistaken, he also played all the harmonies. Kirk started playing the rhythm guitar with James since the album Load.
Most timeless Metallica song is Through the Never, but I love Justice, the whole album is epic and was the soundtrack to my college (secondary school in NZ) years.
“The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.” - Albert Einstein
I love how Jane has issues with head bopping... This album will initially catch you off guard with the switches and transitions.. Second listen will have you head banging on queue!!
I think as Metallica were getting bigger by 1987 as 'Master of Puppets' sold platinum (1 million copies), the band was looking to challenge themselves creatively going into 'And justice for all'... The loss of bassist Cliff Burton in 1986 also traumatized the 3 members, James in particular... so his lyrics on the album were just angry and violent and cynical - everything on the record was just "everything sucks"... no happy ending whatsoever. James also pushed a number of his riffs into songs and Kirk also added his riffs and harmonies, leaving Lars to sort out the arrangements and his ideas... and that left Jason Newsted (bass) w/ nothing but 1 contribution, and even his bass tracks were faded out of the mix of the album... his first w/ Metallica! Kirk recalled them rehearsing the songs and just trying to push their limits musically without messing up. Overall, James and Lars had the biggest say over the record (w/ Cliff gone) so a LOT of the album is James Hetfield's rhythm guitar...& Lars' drums. Kirk Hammett played ALL the lead guitar solos on 'And justice for all'... James never played any solos before the 1991 self-titled 'black' album (he played harmonies and the lead solo on 'Nothing else matters', but Kirk also did some rhythm guitars on the record). Even the 2016 album 'Hardwired to self-destruct'... Metallica had James & Lars play most of the record... Robert Trujillo (bass) did the bass tracks and Kirk Hammett just did the guitar solos and some harmonies. Kirk said that his riffs were lost w/ his iPhone, so he couldn't contribute to that record... Normally, Kirk would come in after basic tracking and add lead solos to Metallica records... He was furious in 2003 when his solos were omitted from the 'St. Anger' record and nearly quit after Jason in 2004, but was somehow convinced to stay.
In reference to what you were talking about at around 4:40 - 'If the penalty for a crime is a fine, then that law only exists for the lower class.' (apocryphal video game quote)
I think what people who don't listen to hard rock and heavy metal don't like about the music is the thematic truth these bands spit out through their lyrics. Their songs may be harsh but they are real. People mostly don't want to hear that. They want the polished version.
I love the time signatures in the main riff . At a first listen its hard to nod your head to until you catch it . But when you do .........Its like oh man ! Thats badass !!! I remember buying this tape when it first came out and the whole album blew me away . All in all I think this is my favorite album by them . And I KNOW this was their las thrashy album for a LONG time . I still like their next one The Black Album but you could tell they were shifting gears to more mainstream stuff . Load and Reload wasnt even Metalica to me then .
To give you context between James playing a solo and Kirk, master of puppets is a good example. James played the 1st solo, Kirk played the solo after"fix me". If you watch the unforgiven you will hear James solo .
Crap! Okay, I'm subscribing. I really envy you, you have so many masterpieces among similar music ahead... Do you know what is the funniest thing? The fact that 90 percent of the reactors who listened to everything in a row, both pop and rap, eventually get hooked on metal)))

The first Metallica album I bought, when I was around 15. It took me some time to enjoy it, but havng played the piano, getting into classical music, this album grew on me, and today, I think its the technically best album all in all, despite the fact that many of the songs on Ride the Lightning and Master of puppets also are epic and awesome.
Jamez as he likes to spell it is one of the finest guitar riff and rythm guitarists on record. He sounds more classic and accurate, while Kirk the Hamsters style is kinda Jimmy Hendrix but using a cry-baby wha wha pedal, that the guys used to hide around the rec=studio to tease him, and whammy bar. I was lucky enough to see them once on this album tour and more, it truly was an awesome gig with 6 encores!!!

Orion 2nd solo (via the booklet, likely means the harmonized guitars)
To Live is To Die 2nd solo
Nothing Else Matters end solo
My Friend of Misery harmonized solo
The House Jack Built
Thorn Within
Outlaw Torn ending (as well as the clean lead before Kirk's solo)
Carpe Diem Baby
Turn The Page
Whiskey in the Jar
Overkill 2nd solo
Damage Case 2nd/end solo
Too Late Too Late 2nd solo
Stone Dead Forever 1st, 2nd, & 3rd solo
The Ecstasy of Gold
Suicide & Redemption 1st (non-wah) solo, whole solo on GH3 JH version
Just A Bullet Away
Now That We're Dead lead before final chorus
The tom tom plan was the first i covered and integrate to my young drummer life .( Without a drum at home yet in 1990 ) ...last mellenium ....and the t shirt ...".the hammer of justice cruches you " ..16 ......Metallica was my family
You should've listened to this album with the bass boosted. Adds a deeper vibe to the thing as a whole.
Good song. I like the lyrical content regarding how the rich get away with so much more than you and I, well until Judgement Day. It goes with the axiom "Rich people go to court, poor people go to prison"
And Justice for All is by far their best album
A classic head thrasher 1 of my many favorite songs from them! 🤘
You going to listen to the entire album? Dyers Eve is so heavy they almost never play it. So many great tunes on this one
One of my favorite intros ever.
Eye of the Beholder (the next track) is a perfect companion to this song.
METALLICA - ...And Justice For All is a
banger 😎
This is their best nothing touches it
“The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.” - Albert Einstein
James: Crushing Rhythm and great riffs.
Kirk: Solid lead licks, solos played high on the fretboard and general wankery with the pedal.
My first Metallica cd the Justice for all song is rocking..
I've listened to Metallica since I was a teenager and most of there songs tell a story glad you liked it.
You rule! Find one where they slay it live & Lady Justice almost kills 'em! Thanks for being openminded & AWES👽ME! 333
I love how Jane has issues with head bopping... This album will initially catch you off guard with the switches and transitions.. Second listen will have you head banging on queue!!
Can to believe they actually didn't know what they were thinking when making this music .💪
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I think what people who don't listen to hard rock and heavy metal don't like about the music is the thematic truth these bands spit out through their lyrics. Their songs may be harsh but they are real. People mostly don't want to hear that. They want the polished version.
so looking foward to your reaction to harvester of sorrow.
Imagine how good this song would be with BASS
I love the time signatures in the main riff . At a first listen its hard to nod your head to until you catch it . But when you do .........Its like oh man ! Thats badass !!! I remember buying this tape when it first came out and the whole album blew me away . All in all I think this is my favorite album by them . And I KNOW this was their las thrashy album for a LONG time . I still like their next one The Black Album but you could tell they were shifting gears to more mainstream stuff . Load and Reload wasnt even Metalica to me then .
Yes, Doris is blindfolded-To the people.
To give you context between James playing a solo and Kirk, master of puppets is a good example. James played the 1st solo, Kirk played the solo after"fix me". If you watch the unforgiven you will hear James solo .
I think you mean Nothing Else Matters, which James i playing. Kirk is playing the solo in Unforgiven.
@@detvarsomfankanske my bad, ur correct. Had a senior moment.
Crap! Okay, I'm subscribing. I really envy you, you have so many masterpieces among similar music ahead... Do you know what is the funniest thing? The fact that 90 percent of the reactors who listened to everything in a row, both pop and rap, eventually get hooked on metal)))
The diference between guitarist is tones and difference between rythm and solos
New years 2000 I was lucky won tickets from calling the radio all day free tickets 7th row in Detroit it was awesome. You should look at the concert in Russia there was over a million people there
❤
The first Metallica album I bought, when I was around 15. It took me some time to enjoy it, but havng played the piano, getting into classical music, this album grew on me, and today, I think its the technically best album all in all, despite the fact that many of the songs on Ride the Lightning and Master of puppets also are epic and awesome.
ONE!!!!
Thank you for the no-nonsense short intro
