    As a fellow RB-67 shooter I absolutely love this take on shooting color v black and white. I've had difficulties manipulating the black and white even with Efex. Thank you Peter very much for sharing this method.

    That cat suit is giving RaRa the ability to be completely free with her body, unlike if she is wearing something that is barely covering her bits and she has to be mindful of that. It is amazing seeing her twist and gyrate and seeing how she can really pose when feeling completely unencumbered. Just amazing!

    RaRa and Peter combo again is always a treat. I love listening to your thoughts as you work the lights and explain exactly why you make the lighting changes as you go, but I don't see how RaRa can not get bored listening to all the jargon you throw out to us the viewer. She sure doesn't show it since she always is the professional. Great job!

    Rara is perfect! One more way to grow contrast but save a film grain: using unsharp mask tool with big pixel value, ~500 px and easy %%. And vice versa to grow grain: unsharp with small px ~0.9, and big %%. I'm sure you know it ;)
    I remember times when most using tool for taking a pictures in the studio is flashmeter ;) Not so easy to shoot with full control of light and shadows as on digital camera screen.
    Respect to this cam backs!

    I dont use photoshop but use same approach, a corrected color layer of the image at the very bottom, a 'film' layer at top of stack (blend mode set to 'color') and in between any adjustment layers all of which can be masked and the relevant section of image correction 'painted' in. Have also found that a Channel Mixer layer set to 'grey' gives the best quick conversion to B&W. Truth is, to convert to B&W it is best to have a fully adjusted color image to work with. (love the shadows in this particular shoot)

    Awesome pics as always. Thank you for the master class in using color to shape tones in black and white. I really have to make it to one of your workshops. Thanks again!

    I too under exposed with slide film because we got ektachrome in the Air Force and the newspapers and never liked the lack of density in the blacks at 'correct' exposure. Usually only about 1/2 stop though.
    Great use of constant light. Great results with the drop shadow on the shadow. I exactly what was needed.
    I'm getting back to film myself,building a darkroom in basement.
    You NEVER have to apologize go me for your rain or storms. I absolutely LOVE hearing them!

    @B: Many thanks for introducing, filming and closing this session. I wish you enjoy the new family member.
    @R: Many thanks for posing in this session; you are a dancer, you know it very well; moving like this you could have the world at your feet.
    @P: Many thanks for explaining the reason why you prefer color equipment, and the process you follow to go to BW. From my (simplistic) point of view, photographing in color is better because you can always go to BW, but not the other way around. I prefer R in color, BTW.

    Very interesting about shooting color and converting to B&W. I never would have thought of that. I generally like the look I get from the B&W film stocks I shoot, but it's good to have another idea/tool to play with, too. And, bonus, you get a nice color image, too. It's the analog version of a digital camera's process. Thanks!

    An excellent video as usual. I also have a few Digital cameras and a few Leica M film and an M240. I have been contemplating buying a Monochrome M camera, but as yet I have not convinced myself that I need it. I don't do much street or low light photography off hand. A Leica Monochrome really shows its strength with very high iso settings , mainly due to its very high signal to noise ratio which results in lower high iso noise and improved dynamic range. I think for now the M240 and my D810 are more than adequate for my style of photography. In a studio and with controlled lighting a Monochrome camera is not as versatile as a normal digital.

    • @Smoothblue90
      @Smoothblue90 7 месяцев назад

      My problem with the "monochrom" cameras is that my monitors display white using multiplle RGB pixels burning away brightly, but the monochrom cameras record each pixel as a light value. So then any representation of an image taken on a monochrom camera would require some sort of software adaptation. I have not seen this discussed. I have thought about how the Leica M10 monochorm sensor contains 40,89 MP or 7864 x 5200 of information, but my monitor really does not even provide 1920 x1080 of information, because I need three pixels to provide a black to gray ro white point, so my monitor provides 1920/3 by 1080/3 amount of information. So, I have wondered if to correctly enjoy a monochrom camera I would need a black and white only monitor. - Tim

    • @lensman5762
      @lensman5762 7 месяцев назад

      @@Smoothblue90 That is a good point. Although I tend to print my photos. There is something about a physical print that can not be matched even by the best monitors.

    Thanks for yet another great video, Peter, A couple of questions, (1) Why PS and not LR? (2) Have you tried the denoise function in LR? (I recovered some old night shots that were unusable because of the high ISO induced noise. So last night, I took a few pics of my wife on my A6300. I wanted to shoot at f/8 at 1/80th of a second in a darkish room so I used ISO 3200 & 4000. I was amazed at how well it worked.)

    Nice work as always. I had a question. The crank up stand with boom. I was wondering if you had the spreader legs it sits on custom built. I did on mine. But I have a second one I mounted 3 45lb weight plates instead of sand bags and spreader legs. It keeps it under control with no tipping too even with an elinchrom 190 para on it at full extension.

    Love watching you work - and transitioning more and more to constant light.... By the time you shoot with color film, scan, and process in PS, I honestly think just sticking to digital RAW capture and manipulating in post (curves/grain etc) to create the film 'look' is worth a thought/try!
