  • Peter's favourite time of day to shoot fashion is when the sun is super high, and we have both been wanting to do a shoot styled this way for a very long time. While we were up in Port Douglas we went out to the Tablelands at around 2pm in the afternoon, and you will see how quick and easy it is to get awesome fashion shots with full sun.

I love full sun shooting. I like slightly off to the side or slightly behind. Tends to add a mood that you can only get during full sun. You can do a lot with pavement, or anything light reflecting back into the subject or if you have a lower contrast lens it can pick up more in the shadows than you typically could on a more modern lens with high contrast coatings

Thank you for the shoot. It was interesting to see how the posture changed when a car was on that section of road vs. not.
I would like to make a polite unsolicited suggestion for Rebecca. Bec, would you consider looking into procuring a pair of knee pads for Mr. Coulson. I want to look forward to many more years of his work before you step in to take his place. I will suggest that it could be a challenge to find knee accessories that are both comfortable and not unfashionable. Peter may resist the idea. And not without just cause. If you are anxious to take Mr. Coulson’s place behind the lens then all you have to do is let photography continue as is. When his knees have gone things would likely change drastically. I like to think that you have the heart and tenacity to attempt the introduction of this simple piece of safety equipment. Thank you for your consideration in this matter. Thank you both to your expansive contributions to the creative community.

Many thanks for this new behind-the-scenes video in the desert roads. I would name it as: guiding lines.
@B: I laughed when you ran away from the road to avoid the cars; poor P, he couldn't concentrate on taking the photographs, one day you are going to consume his patience.
@P: I still have the idea that, in the outdoor photographs, the light of the Sun should directly hit the front of the Model. I think this wrong idea comes from sunrise and sunset light that I, unconsciously, think it should be applied to all Sun light scenarios.
@P: But this video is not about lighting, but about lines. Lines, straight and curved, guide our eyes in the same precise way railroad tracks guide the wheels of the trains. I think one of the difficulties shooting full body in landscape is that the Model could be absorbed or eclipsed by the background… unless the background itself guide our eyes to the Model. At the beginning of the video, I was preparing a question related to why you took the photographs in that precise high (bending legs) but then is suppressed it because I saw you applied the guiding-lines rule (in case there is such a rule). These guiding lines are not defined by the video camera that you have on top of the photo camera, but by the photo camera itself bellow. Please review all the BW photographs you have included in the video, and you will see that all of them follow the same principles: road lines that intersect the vertical body of the Model; lines that are defined by the margin of the way or by the white painted lines in the road. I think lines, in photography, can be our worst enemy or your best ally. If we can ally with those lines, there are higher chances to succeed. Geometry and photography are two sibling disciplines that talk about shapes.
@P: BTW, why didn’t you make any video with B roaming the roads and photographs doing hitchhike? You had the perfect model and the best scenarios.
