Hey Sean, recently found your content and its a breath of fresh air from a lot of the more mainstream voices in the RUclips photo/video world. I have no doubts you have the potential to keep growing with your ability to communicate and your humble demeanor in your vids. Keep up the solid work brother!
I loved this video. I'm new to shooting video with a ZV-E10 I recently bought, and this really made me think about backlighting vs using sunlight from the front. Very cool.
Could you do a low light videography/photography video? I’m running a Sony A7ii and I’m really looking to try out some night time shoots but I hafta lock in my settings/lens selection. Love the videos man! Thanks for all the tips!!
Love your channel and I have been following it for a while now!! I learn so much from you and your content to apply to my own videos. As a foreigner dancer in India my niche is very different but I'm working hard to learn more about filmmaking to improve the quality of my videos. So I wanna thank you for being one of my online gurus! 🙏🏼✨
you are doing such a lovely job in sharing your knowledge with us young youtubers and older ones too. I tried some of your tips in my last video, i think its much better now i hope to improve as time pass. I hope all the best for other youtubers in their journey and hope they apply some your tips in their videos too.
If we have to shoot in bright sun , is it better to keep sony camera at native iso and mess around with aperture to get correct exposure or should I crank iso down and keep aperture at its highest 2.8 , im also using a nd filter too
Thanks to this video man...I don't have fancy camera Im just using mobile and action camera but this is very helpful especially small RUclipsr like me...
Thank you for this. I have a lot to learn. I want to shoot from my patio tiki bar, but the lighting is horrible during the day and the shadows & reflected light are brutal.
Pleasure! Good luck with the video, let me know if you need anyone to be in the shots. Wouldn't mind coming to sit at your tiki bar, sounds pretty good ;)
Haha! I always use a variable nd when shooting video. Can be a bit tricky when looking directly into the light as you can get some kinda washed out images due to the reflection...
Sean Kitching thanks Sean 👍🏻 it is ok 😉 we canceled two times holiday because of afraid of corona 🥴 but so i have more time to film my new dog 🤗 stay healthy vou two💪🏼 and best greetings to Hannah 😀
I’m hoping that once it’s safer to travel, it would be cool to see a video of you helping a more beginner shooter to make a cinematic sequence using all these tips and how to edit it all together. I think it’d be a cool video! Hope one day to meet you and make a video together! Cheers from Texas!
I really try to avoid this time of day at all cost, because in my opinion my images don't look that great. Especially when photographing a black person in a backlit setting they just disappear . Thanks for sharing this information I love your channel.
What at 3:00 he says you dont want this and you dont want that....but his footage shows just that.....freaking racoon / panda eyes and harsh shadows.....the latest and greatest is to do something ordinary (shooting in the sun) and call out the ordinary (the harsh shadows and what not) as extra ordinary ? How does this work ? Or is he showing footage of what it shouldnt look like ?
"How to shoot slow motion b roll of models in direct sunlight". Doesn't quite work for talking heads. You need a reflector that can fight the sun, or over expose the background. 10:10 ah ok you kinda showed this with the white wall lol
Give this man a respect. A true filmmaker that cares about his audience. 🙏🏻
Really appreciate that Mark :)

Very cool.
Great video, yes using bounce lighting from what is around you is a great idea when solo shooting.

I always thought sunsets are the best cuz all the videos with lots of sun made them look colourless with zero contrast. So thanks for all these tips😌.
Such a pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice video. With back lighting, do you recommend fill-in flash? Thanks
For photos yeah it can be usefull but im not always a fan of the look you get with flash. Just my opinion though :)
@@seankitching Thanks
Do what you can with what you have!

I want to know. What picture profile do you use? Or are you using picture profiles ?
Haha! I always use a variable nd when shooting video. Can be a bit tricky when looking directly into the light as you can get some kinda washed out images due to the reflection...

Yeah its a good idea to try and shoot at better times but sometimes we just dont have the option! Darker skin tones can be even more tricky hey!
@@seankitching Yes, and I appreciate all of your tips, Sean.
What about for dark skin tones?
The same tips should work just adjust everything for the correct exposure and so on :)
Also could use a ND filter?
