Yaya Toure is the best midfielder that Man City has ever had, period. I waited 35 years to see City win another trophy. I remember the pain and the ridicule I got for being a City fan throughout those years. Yaya was instrumental in putting that wait to rest once and for all, first with the goals in the FA Cup semi-final and final in 2011 and then with his performances and goals in 2012 and 2014 winning us the Premier League. If you watch videos of all the games where Yaya played for City I doubt that you can find 20 times that Yaya was dispossessed by the opposition. Hell with it I doubt you can find anything near double figures. I used to find it amusing to watch teams standoff from even challenging him for the ball when the ball was passed to him from our defense. They would wait for him to pass the ball and then press because it was a waste of time pressing him. If we needed a goal he would switch from playing no 6 to no 10 go forward and score or create a goal. Even though he won't be acknowledged by most City fans, to me he will always be the foundation on which the success of Manchester City has been built on.
Yaya Toure is a legend. I guess pep didn't like him personally but he can't deny how talented yaya toure is as a player, nowadays is very rare to see midfielder like yaya toure powerful, strong, speedy, skillful and above all respectful and humble person❤
I don't understand why though. People believe he is racist since he says he does nit play him because he is unfit Yaya found he was one the the most fit in the City
It's not that.. Yaya was clearly overweight.. At City, after the initial verbal back and forth with his agent, Pep played Yaya. In his last season, whenever he played for City, his work rate was very bad. He isn't fast enough to track back and get the ball back like Bernardo or Fernandinho. Instead he held back the players with their shirts and got yellow carded.. Pep likes players with very high work rate..
@@brittaniemccarthy5428 You do realize Aguero is a striker? Strikers shouldn’t get all the fame and respect, there are “other” positions. YaYa is a complete mid, plus can score goals. He is on the same levels as Aguero without a question.
I'm a Liverpool fan but Yaya Toure was world class at city and one of the very reason City are where they are now. His work ethic combined with his explosive energy and strength is unlike anything we've seen from any midfielder in premier league history. He single handedly dictate game tempo from midfield making David Silva job unrealistically easy, players terrified of press him because is just a waste of time. To this day it baffles me how Pep managed to discarded him out of City in such a sad way.
It is not clear why Pep hated Yaya You're even the author of this struggles to explain it. From Yaya Toure interviews it looks like the skin of Yaya was a problem. Considering what happened to Samuel Etoo another world class player ill-treated by Pep. As for Zlatan I may well think it was personal beef rather than skin colour. While I highly respect Pep, the way he is struggling to explain why he wasn't at good terms with Yaya, points to Yaya's skin and nothing else because Pep can't acknowledge it in public
He also discarded him at Barca. In hindsight keeping Eto'o, Toure and even Ibrahimovic in the team were the best options. Iniesta on the left, Xavi and Toure as the AMs, Messi false 9 and Eto'o/ Ibrahimovic through the centre would have been the end of football. He still could have signed Villa and had him on rotation as well as Pedro.
Who also thinks that if Pep guardiola had managed Chelsea during Didier Drogba's prime he would have frustrated him to the point of the Ivorian leaving for lack of play time?
No way. Drogba was a true professional of the highest order. Yaya was in barcelona 4th choice behind iniesta xavi busquets which makes sense. He decided to leave because he wanted to play and he wouldn't play ahead of them. At city he was getting old, was overweight and guardiola still prefered to play with a defensive holding midfielder(fernandinho) and two technical ones. Toure was never a pep kind of player because he was too offensive to play the busquets role and guardiola does not use box to box players a lot. Guardiola told him he wouldn't play much at city and toure got angry and disrespectful, that's why pep then completely erased him from his plans. Drogba i think had no such problems, he would have been like david villa. As for the theory that pep is racist... That is just yaya being an idiot and trying to make pep seem evil. Pep did the same thing to ibrahimovic and joe hart, he also nearly did it to aguero as well.
@@ThatGuy-tx4vm I think I can agree with you with regards to Pep and Drogba. I do think that they would at times disagree, but it would be only for a short while as most players and managers do. I disagree with your conclusion about Yaya's time at Barcelona. Far from just playing holding midfielder, Yaya played central defense for Barca as his main position towards the end. Pep didn't use Yaya in an attacking role at all. This is why City were ridiculed for paying so much for a holding midfield player, as that was what he was known for. Mancini switched him into the box to box role. That was a surprise to the English football community and media at the time. I also agree with you regarding Yaya calling Pep racist. Sterling has been the first name on the team sheet for the past 5 years. Mendy has been retained after 4 years of injury and loss of form. Jesus may not be the most prolific striker but Pep holds him in high regard for his work rate and because he follows Pep's instructions to the tee. I'm a big Yaya fan but that accusation is bullshit so I can't back it.
@@ThatGuy-tx4vm Pep would have benched Drogba. Look at what Pep did to Eto'o and that was Barcelona's top scorer at the time. Pep does not like African players. Seydou Keita at Barcelona also saw his minutes dramatically drop with Pep. In Man City, Kelechi stopped getting opportunities with Pep even though he had the best goals per minute ratio of any striker on the Man City squad. Pep is consistent in limiting opportunities to African players with the exception being Riyad Mahrez of Algeria. You bring up Zlatan, but Zlatan was poor at Barcelona and did not fit Blaugrana. That move to bring Zlatan to replace Eto'o cost Barcelona a Champions League. This is a prime example of why racism is not good.
@@Fyneskills seydou keita was bought by pep and left with pep... Know your facts first. And stop being delusional. Do you think keita should have played ahead of busquets? Mahrez for some weird reason now plays every single game. Could it be perhaps that pep wanted something specific from him that he wasn't giving in the past but is giving now? Or do we take the dumb and simplistic view that every time an african doesn't play it must be racism? I don't really know what pep didn't like about eto'o but toure he was right. For the team barca was and the players they had, xavi, iniesta, busquets was the most balanced midfield, and it was demonstrated even more when barca 2010-11 was stronger tactically than 2008-09 or 2009-10. Guardiola removed ihehanacho from city because maybe he too didn't do some things he asked of him. Like joe hart couldn't play from the back. And ibra started perfectly at barcelona. Most of his goals were scored in the first half of the season till pep put messi as striker and left ibra in a new position. Leave your bias at the door when arguing. And yes you're probably right. Drogba might've been benched because of his playstyle.
Although Pep was a decent manager but he still have some problem with some players like Zlatan,Eto'o.Yaya Toure was a world class midfielder and he should be respect because he's a City legend
I think he don’t like Players with personality, who have their own opinion and are not afraid to open their mouth. All the players have big personality’s.
@@keba9737 So Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Alves, Valdes, Thienry, Muller, Neuer, Lewa, Kimmich KDB, Silva, Aguero, Mahrez have no personality personality!!!! May be the problem is that he doesn't like players who are like 'Barking Dogs, Seldom Bites'. May be instead of opening their mouth, those players need to work hard on their leg's ability. May be instead of boasting on their personality they needed to be 1/11 part of a functioning football team. May be not showing off new Fererri in training, not partying night long and arriving in training late, not stubborn to be in the optimal physical shape would help them in their career.
That's man City.. they never talk about Mancini who won them the first ever p.l title, Pellegrini who reached the semi final with a squad much cheaper than pep..etc.. plastic club.. plastic fans..

But again, sometimes African bone density is different to other race...sometimes....eg some African people will be considered obese...even though they're not fat. Did you forget the entire saga about Yaya's agent and his comments and Pep saying he would not play Yaya until an apology was made? That was a huge segment you left out
@Jay Murthy - Doesnt Professionalism outweigh personal vendettas? If Yaya was good for the team how could comments stop him from playing. He used the apology as a strategy to cover up his racism.
Yaya is one of my favorite midfielders of all time. From a Liverpool fan looking in it definitely stinks of mistreatment, i doubt it has anything to do with weight, think about this realistically, yaya is a BIG guy, his bone structure and body build will add to his weight which will make it nearly impossible to be at the weight pep wanted, and i think pep knew he was giving him an impossible reason. He systematically froze him out over time.
"At Barca, some people asked the same question. Maybe we, the Africans, weren't always treated like the others." "We often saw thaht he had probles with Africans, wherever he went."
Although Yaya now is a coach staff at Olimpik Donetsk(Ukraine),he still on training session in Vietnam and he said that he is going to sign a club in Vietnamese league for his final career days
What's strange is that if yaya understood pep completely, he should then have left City immediately once Pep arrived instead of insisting on fighting for his place. He had more years in him and could have gone almost anywhere as the superstar he was.
Man City was Yaya's home that he helped build for many years becoming their most valued player, of course he's gonna do everything he can to preserve that.
@@meks1478 nah, gotta know the business. Some players made smarter moves ... I loved him and wanted to see him playing as long as at high level as possible ... Could have seen him in serie a, for instance
Saying that Yaya is unfit is not one of the best excuses out there because everyone knew Yaya was the most important player before Pep arrival.....I mean that guy score, assisted and was involved in playmaking he was a beast.
@Flockingsheep _hence_never_asleep he was never told he was getting a statue. I don't know where you're getting this idea he was supposed to get one. He didn't play at the club 10 years like Silva, Aguero and Kompany.
Pep is just one of those persons who put principles above everything and i thnk that is why he istn´t as succesful as he could be with his tactical knowledge. You have to hop over your shade sometimes, even if you are pep guardiola. Yaya Toure was one of the most complete midfielders of all time. for skill reasons their was no way to not play him.
Honestly, Yaya would be a perfect replacement for Patrick Viera at Arsenal. Would have become a legend there.. And would have kept Arsenal competitive for a few more years after the invincibles era
@@peterutoh6959 Their tactics are very similar as coaches. Both play out from the back and through midfield to the wide areas. Still that's probably why Pep sold Kelechi and Angelino as both were Patrick Vierra players from the EDS.
I never forgave pep the way he treated eto. Banished him to the bench , and eto had to do the same like yaya, stayed, and eventually scored the first goal against ManU in CL finals
@@kesteruwaifo4861 you obviously didn’t follow Barca closely. Watch the interview by eto himself about what happened that year. It started during pre season in the USA, guardiola gave Henry number 9 jersey, gave eto number 14, benched eto, but every game, played him in last 10 Minutes and he scored 2 goals . Went back to Barca, and still kept trying to sideline eto. Apart from Kevin de bruyne no other midfielder in the history of man city comes close to Yaya Toure. He could literally do it all, Defend, pass, score set pieces, score goals from open play, take long range shots, head the ball, etc. The guy was that good, Fernandinho and Gundogan do not even come close to this Maestro.
Obviously you are too young to remember the great Colin Bell (RIP). He's the original template. I'm so lucky to have met him a few times and always been star struck as he was my hero when I was a child. Yaya and KDB are and were great but there is and always will only be one Colin Bell who could do it all on a bumpy or soggy pitch.

He was on trial a year after kolo but wenger decided not to sign him 🥲. Weird since his attributes is similar if not better then viera. Instead we gamble on another version of viera, talented but injury prone diaby . Imagine if cesc and yaya play on the same team 😱🔥.

The question till this day is can Pep win champions league WITHOUT Xavi, Iniesta and especially, especially the precious wonderboy “Messi”, arguably most talented player to exist.
From what we have seen , I think it's a no. Moreover even an average Luis Enrique won the champions league with those guys, that Barcelona team played so well to the extent that ,even if there was no coach on the sideline they would still win.
From an Arsenal fan... Yaya Toure was an absolute force of nature as a player , and had been since his Barcelona days, and he alongside Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Vincent Kompany were the vital cogs, or rather, main catalysts of City's rise from mediocrity to elite status in not only England but European football, and his place as a City legend is all but assured and nobody will ever take that from him. But make no mistake about it- Pep Guardiola is the greatest club manager in football today, and it was for that very reason that City brought him in so that the football club could take that next step and not only cement their status as one of England's premier clubs, but also now permanently dine in the same table as the the European elite, and eight years on, Pep has done exactly what he was brought in to do- Dominate English football and deliver the club's first ever European Cup- and he did that in style, winning the fabled Treble, becoming the only manager to accomplish that fit for the second time in their career and with more than one club. Look, Pep's relentless pursuit of success and perfection makes him lose his soul a bit but that is a necessary evil to have as manager if you want to be the greatest ever. It's unfortunate that he and Toure didn't see eye to eye but two things are for sure: 1. Pep is not a racist! We have seen him successfully work with various black players eg. Eric Abidal, Seydou Keita, Kingsley Coman, David Alaba, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane, Kyle Walker etc and tif he was racist he would not have worked with them. People seem not to understand how deep racism is- A racist cannot be in the same presence as a person of the race he or she hates and you do not notice the disdain...not to forget that the above mentioned players have nothing bad to say about Pep. 2. Yaya Toure will no doubt go down as a Barca and City great, but he cannot be fully absolved from blame in this long standing frosty relationship...Pep had his reasons for not preferring him, and using his own words, he was not obedient enough as Pep would have loved and Pep duly eliminated him from his plane, and he was and has been proven right in both clubs as he did win a lot and has won a lot without the Ivorian. End of Take...
If Yaya could play well with his weight why stick to your stubborn and rigid ways Pep? Yaya was a big, and tall man and it's too hard for him to be 65 or 64 kg. Imagine telling that to Lukaku. Now Sterling, Mahrez and smaller guys can manage that but not such massive guys like Toure. Pep chose to ignore Toure's history and reputation at City and used this weight excuse to kick him out because of a personal grudge. We know big and heavy people can be fit. Adriano, Ronaldo were big, heavy and also fit. Ronaldo had frightening pace and dribbling skills. Pep is a genius, a racist and an egomaniac. Zlatan, Eto, Bony and Toure were sacrificed because of him.
Yaya Toure was unbeliavable player in his prime. Sad that Guardiola managed him twice. Was absolute beast in City and arguably top5 midfielder during that 6years.
As a City fan for over 4 decades, I love Yaya and we he brought to the team. How can I forget his goal vs United in the FA cup semi final? And then many spectacular goals he scored and put City on the map. Pep is the best coach we have ever had! City plays some the best football I have ever seen, out of this world. It's like a dream, especially when I remember the years of relegations and agony!!! Sometimes I don't understand Pep and some of his decisions, I could never understand how he parted ways with someone like Ibrahimovic, and you see someone like Ferguson working with a beast like Keane!! I don't think Pep dislikes Africans though! He's great with Raheem, I know he's English ( From Jamaica), but a racist is a racist, whether you're from Africa or Bermuda.
The writings are clear on the walls.... Some players are doing so well and when Pep shows up players of a particular race have problems with him.... My personal opinion is that assembling exceptional players and winning trophies does not show that you are a good coach..... Shame on Pep
Pep left Barca when some players were at their prime. Pep like the priaises sung in his name. When he has the opportunity, he discards the star and shines brighter.
Yaya Toure is the best midfielder to grace the Prem. You could play him anywhere and he'll put in a world class performance. Absolute beast of a player.
Pep: "No. They were not overweight, but I want my players to be fit and weight is so so important" Also, Pep: "The pandemic has affected all clubs economically, us too" signs Grealish for British record of 100 million euros Pep back after 2009 UCL win: "It's disappointing that clubs splash money on players and don't promote academy players" signs Zlatan in that same summer transfer window for 69 million euros Terrible liar
I think its a ego thing with pep maybe.. Any player that seems bigger than him to the team or the fans he gradually gets rid of.. yaya, company, silva now aguero
Do you know how many injuries Kompany, Aguero and ageing Silva who was replaced by De bruyne, Bernardo Silva/Gundogan because they were better at that time
coming from an amateur footballer, sometimes as a manager, you must modify your plan to fit some players. Look at the greats like Ronaldhino, R9, even Neymar. Managing some of these huge talents (while taking into account their background) is hard. Because of their talent, you can't coach them like normal players. I think Guardiola should clearly say he doesn't want certain players, not make it a weight issue or this or that. How can someone not at your ideal weight be one of the best midfielders in the world? then you can clearly forgo the weight, you should be able to be flexible sometimes.
And that's what Pep did to make the most out of Messi, which lead to Zlatan not playing as he wanted and causing a conflict. Yaya was out of shape at the time of those words and wasn't any excuse, he had terrible stamina
I think that in barca time always dreamed about the catalonian team he want the team to evolve around them we all know yaya was better tham busequets that time but pep prefered to give time to busquest and at city time pep came in with mentality to control ever thing even at bayern time he loves this details we see it now with aguero he just do them no racial or biases may be little in barca time just for catalonian dream team
And played a different brand too, more joyful and exhilarating. If Pep didnt have Messi for his Barcelona years he would be nobody winning nothing. He has the best team money could buy at Bayern and Man City.
Eto'o, Ibra made almost the same accusations about Pep's way of not talking or coming clear.... Great coach but insecure and too complicated as a person. May not win CL without Messi. Let's see.
Would love to have seen Yaya drop the weight, for many reasons. First, interesting experiment, which I suspect would have made a substantial difference to parts of his play... Second, take away Pep's excuse for not playing him. Besides that, I think the real reason comes down to the team dynamic. An effective team needs to be built around one dominant personality, and Pep needed it to be him for his style to work; Yaya was too strong a personality, with a style that would probably not have fit into Pep's strategic approach, and may have ended up creating dissent (unintentionally/inadvertently), which would have killed the team dynamic.
Guardiola has such a strong philosophy he executes with utter perfection and Toure never fit into it. I doubt the racism stuff is true - current Manchester City has like 4-5 active black players. Now, there is a nugget of truth here - all black players Pep managed and kept in the team were born in Europe. And I do think that maybe in order to come across with his super strict style, he does better with people who "speak the language" also metaphorically. Worth mentioning Yaya, Bony and Eto'o were all BORN in Africa.
"racism thing" tell me all I need to know about you lol. The clown clearly hates dark skin tonned Africans. He's mentally sick to the core. How do you sell iheanacho who's goals per minutes ratio is better than all the strikers they currently have. This is a deep rooted and well known problem in europe, yet you call it " racism thing", as a way of dismissing it.
Yaya's position in a pep system is peps position, that dm role is probably the most important in a pep system, Yaya is not that kind of player, he's not that discipline type like Rodri, Busquet or Fernadinho. He's more than that, he went to City and proved it so it worked out in the end for everyone. Obviously he was approaching the end by the time pep came to city, don't think its anything personal on him.
I was amazed of Jose this season because he let Tammy Abraham to play and he is now one of the main factors why Roma reach final for Europa Conference League this season.
Africans told pep Guardiola that he wont win the UCL until he apologizes publicly to yaya toure and he took it for granted. He came so close this year and didnt get it. Someone tell him to do so
I don't think the problem was race, i think height was the problem. You cannot force a big tall man to do what you want you can only ask him. Pep doesn't look like the asking type.

World class managers don't allow any player to be above them or the club. Mourinho had to do the same with Casillas at Real Madrid, and Paul Pogba at Man U. Yaya is great, but Guardiola is a serial winner and won't lower his standards for anyone.
He has a problem with African players, once he arrived he wanted to kick Eto and Yaya, Eto won the triple with him, then the triple with Inter the following season. Yaya moved to Manchester city and became their best player for years
Being a Man U fan I really feel for Yaya. Every time we played against him he always punished us and created a chance or goal from nothing. Managers simply rely on this type of talent and build the team around this type of players. I think Pep just hates the black pigment on the skin which is just stupit. Its really unfair how he ruined Yaya's career. I also blame the fan base because they had the power to force the coach to give him play time but did nothing about it. Maybe the Man city's champions league curse comes from these kind of things. How can weight really be a factor if you are fast..creative and scoring goals.?? Also Yaya was tall and had a natural big body physic his height was corresponding to his stature. Brazils Ronaldo was or seemed overweight but he delivered the goods. Pep just naturally hates this boy!

Africa player
He also discarded him at Barca. In hindsight keeping Eto'o, Toure and even Ibrahimovic in the team were the best options. Iniesta on the left, Xavi and Toure as the AMs, Messi false 9 and Eto'o/ Ibrahimovic through the centre would have been the end of football. He still could have signed Villa and had him on rotation as well as Pedro.
Who also thinks that if Pep guardiola had managed Chelsea during Didier Drogba's prime he would have frustrated him to the point of the Ivorian leaving for lack of play time?
Thank God Pep never managed Drogba
Look if there is a plan some like it some don’t. People who like it get along well and some who don’t like they end up liking the guy.
From what we have seen , I think it's a no. Moreover even an average Luis Enrique won the champions league with those guys, that Barcelona team played so well to the extent that ,even if there was no coach on the sideline they would still win.
And the latest news is that... No
In a video of 10 mins I can feel Toure's frustration... Must have been really hard to face this day in day out
From an Arsenal fan...
It's unfortunate that he and Toure didn't see eye to eye but two things are for sure:
The ending of this video is wrong. He left with his head high. Man City even named a training ground after his name.
Who here after citys loss

What I wrote a year ago is still valid! City knocked out again!
Yaya, Bony and Etoo all speak multiple languages.
Yaya a legend at city 🙌
Yaya's position in a pep system is peps position, that dm role is probably the most important in a pep system, Yaya is not that kind of player, he's not that discipline type like Rodri, Busquet or Fernadinho. He's more than that, he went to City and proved it so it worked out in the end for everyone. Obviously he was approaching the end by the time pep came to city, don't think its anything personal on him.
That's why I love Jose the special one he never discriminates
I was amazed of Jose this season because he let Tammy Abraham to play and he is now one of the main factors why Roma reach final for Europa Conference League this season.
Africans told pep Guardiola that he wont win the UCL until he apologizes publicly to yaya toure and he took it for granted. He came so close this year and didnt get it. Someone tell him to do so
Yaya toure was legend ! Pep will never win UCL again
I don't think the problem was race, i think height was the problem. You cannot force a big tall man to do what you want you can only ask him. Pep doesn't look like the asking type.
Are you from Nigeria? 🤣
If it wasn't race then explain: Etoo, iheanacho etc.
@@xk302a Are you daft? Iheanacho Etoo, Yaya Toure were all better that whoever they had in their various positions. Hart was on a decline u 🤡🤡🤡. Tell me Jesus was better than Iheanacho. Iheanacho's goals per minute average speaks volumes even with limited play time. Yaya was the best midfielder they ever had and is a city legend. Etoo went to inter and won a treble. It was wrong for me to assume that you're mentally competent but evidently you're quite challenged in that department.
@@jinxsam8395 if it's race explain then Abidal, Alves, Keita, Henry, Thiago, Sterling, Walker, Alaba, Boateng, Mendy, Ake, etc.
@@cheese186 i'll explain your momma for u 🤣🤣🤣🤣
To understand Pep you need to watch the show La Casa de papel(Money Heist) him and the professer has a lot similarities both are perfectionist and dictator but lacks common humanity and friendly personality and mainly focus on getting the job done I don't know maybe it's just how they act
It can't be a coincidence. Eto, Yaya, Bony and heanacho. No ways man
No way.
Hardwork pays it all,let no human being decides your success
But he dd work so hard and pep was in his way ...watch how he used to play in barca he could of been huge
guardiola : dont like black players
Mourinho: i love black players
Mendy, and Henry seeing this: 😳
@@lmdll6895 lol Henry was sold mendy don't play because of better options like zinchenko
Nosense who bring Mendy to man City abidal to barça keitä,........
Maybe Zlatan Ibra was black in Pep's eyes
@@cosmosokpighe4962 yep
You guys forget what pep did to yaya toure
Looking at the first team right now I see why he saw it was a race thing
That makes no sense, please elaborate
@@shirwahassan1346 how many black people r in city’s first team ?

Pep also had a problem with Ibrahimovic, so does that mean Pep also had a problems with Swedish nationals?
Yaya is a big personality and there’s only one room for that when pep is concerned
"Pep is a brilliant manager but he is just a bad person." - Jose Mourinho
A case of jealousy against a talented & gifted midfielder. Yaya is smart enough not to let pep destroy his career.
I wanna wish, you. A Great Pog Day. And i gotta tell you. The Big Chungus. Sends his regards.
World class managers don't allow any player to be above them or the club. Mourinho had to do the same with Casillas at Real Madrid, and Paul Pogba at Man U. Yaya is great, but Guardiola is a serial winner and won't lower his standards for anyone.
Who's here after City had the bottle job of the century against Real?
He has a problem with African players, once he arrived he wanted to kick Eto and Yaya, Eto won the triple with him, then the triple with Inter the following season. Yaya moved to Manchester city and became their best player for years
Busquest xavi iniesta I wouldn’t swap any of them for Touré would you, Pep made a call and it proved right simple as that ffs
When Pep leaves, Man City will win champions league. The only European title Pep will have will be because of Messi.
Fraud coach.
Exactly, Pep is honestly a poison to the football world, he’s narcissistic af, definitely seems like a racist as well.
