Look if you go into a company and start changing things and you have no experience behind you - you’ll get questioned. Personally I have experienced this first hand and sometimes they were right to question. But if you want to be successful in your role and bring success to that organization - you need to first back yourself and stand your ground. Some characters won’t stand for that and if you have the power to let them go then you should. This is what happened with Pep, he had no management credentials but brilliant ideas and vision for Barca’s future and personalities like Eto was not ready to stand down and take his leadership and ideas. It worked out great for both Pep and Eto in the end as they both found success.
Exactly mate. People like to personalize this like we haven't seen this play out. As soon as new leadership takes charge, the old guard always resists any form of change. And the fact that Eto had an influence in getting the old coach fired meant he was a problematic character that meant he had to go otherwise the new lead3rship won't make it.
This will not be a problem if the new management’s changes are rooted in rationality for success of the company, as opposed to biased feelings. Being the striker with the best results statistics in the team, at the top of European football, and also a well-known team leader who has been a support to younger players…..only for new management to kick you to the curb because they feel threatened by you, obviously won’t sit well with you. Great managers will use you for benefit of the company/team’s success rather than feel threatened by you. And in turn, you will surrender to their leadership (just the way Mourinho did with Eto’o). Sure, they may gain more iron-clad control on the team by kicking you out, but at the cost of lower performance? Which is more important here?
And the team still went on the be better without him 😂 There was a young bull on the up and space for him to grow into the greatest player ever needed to be made. He was just a casualty of greatness.

Doing like that will make other players to not respect the current manager. Look at United, till today they still have problems with majority of their managers after Alex Ferguson. Henry was in the same situation as Eto'o but he had less ego, trusted and listened to Guardiola more, which is why he still praises Guardiola till today. Plus Eto'o had 1 memorable season after he left Barcelona in his last 10 season in Europe and that was his 1st season with Inter Milan.
What do you mean, usually the front three of Henry, Eto'o, and Messi plays during 08/09 season. Unless you are referring to the swapping of kit numbers.
@@MacGamer10 They didn't play for long like that bro, Henry left because Pedro broke into the first team and he started getting benched because of him loosing form. Yes Pep was wrong from the start,it was actually Samuel Eto who saved Barcelona from Rijkard's lethargy to complain to management. Pep Guardiola had unnatural love for Messi-Xavi-Iniesta-Pique to make his game centred around them. Even prime Cesc Fabregas (he had better numbers than Xavi & Iniesta) was treated inferior to rather act as person who should aid Messi-Xavi-Iniesta.
@@DaleDanny David Silva & Pep met each other later past Silva's prime but I agree he was very lethal midfielder who was more dangerous. Even Pep laments not recognising Silva to take him in his Barcelona
Put down the meth pipe mate 😂 Iniesta and Xavi are best midfield duo to dawn the game. This is not even a debate. It's unanimous throughout the footballing fraternity.
I don't think he is against African players in general tho. Like you gotta admit that Busquets clears Yaya Toure. Pep usually picks the best team without bias. But Eto'o is a great player and shouldn't have been replaced tbh. Maybe it is similar to Cancelo at City.
Many things here missing and are wrong : - When Pep was promoted to Barca´s first team , Ronaldinho , Deco and Eto were at the chopping block. Ronaldinho and Deco cuz their form have been awful and Eto cuz of his ego. In the end Eto stayed at Barca one extra year because Pep could not get one extra striker he need it. - The main problem came was that "Guardiola" never told anything to Eto to his face and it was everything thru the president or a manager around. - Also Eto replacement was Zlatan , not Messi. Messi has been playing with Eto for a long time already and Messi looked up to him - Guardiola change the system to the False 9 and make Eto play on the wing and Messi as the "Center Forward". At first they clash but after results were yielding and Eto was also playing good , it look something that they left on the past. Eto even at that position score vs United at the Final of the champions league - Though in the end , Eto was replace for Zlatan because "taller , physical stronger and acrobatic" that would fit for Pep - This problem also was not just with Eto , but it happend to with Zlatan and also with other players like Yaya Toure at Barca and then at City too lmao - Funny thing is that "Haaland" is the "personification" of "what if Zlatan and Pep get along. - Also we have to remember that Pep was just starting and him dealing with egos is not what he is today - Over the years Pep got better on dealing with egos
Haaland works because there's no other "Haaland" at City. Lewandowski also works because there's no other "Lewandowski" at Bayern. Eto'o and Zlatan "failed" because Pep got Messi, and he didn't need two "Messi" in his team. It was a shame, because it could work. Later we all saw how Barca's Messi-Suarez-Neymar killed football.
@@godsoulsukmadewa tf u talkin about?? this has nothing to do with not wanting 2 messi's. it didn't even work like that. pep just couldn't handle big egos back then. he wasn't flexible nor experienced enough to listen to the players and wanted to apply his ideology completely.
@@zabdi5710 i think i'm clear. He can't fit two "Messi", or he doesn't need two "Messi" in his system, his strategy, his tactics. There always one main goalscorer in the starting lineup. Messi in Barca, Lewandowski in Bayern, Aguero and now Haaland in City. As you can see in this video, Eto'o scored plenty. He got replaced by Zlatan only to have the same situation later. So strange. He wasted two highscoring strikers just like that in Barca. All i can guess, by that time Pep realized that the superiority in his system is when he plays Messi as his main goal-getter. He asked Eto'o to do something, to play strictly to this plan. Eto'o didn't like it. Same thing happened with Zlatan. Henry a good student, a model professional, so he's fine.
I would argue that Pep didn’t get better at handling egos more like he proved that his system works, and if you want to win you better stfu and listen to Pep. Back then Pep was a young unproven manager. Now he’s has a mountain of trophies at 3 massive clubs.
Nuff Respect to Pep nonetheless but a lesson to be learnt here don't look down on anyone based of their race,creed,class/socio-economic back ground...FIFA has over the advocated for even fans whether club based or international to no part take in racism...Sam was a genius in his own right never the less...up front in the top three strike force for the Catalans either with henry, suarez ,messi, neymar and ronaldhino(my LEGENDARY baller) he was GREAT just the same❤🎉
That Eto lad just couldn't take a hint 😂😂😂. But luckily he didn't so they had that season. Pep had to assert himself or the egos would have ruined his vision.
Or he could have managed their egos better. In the end he realised that he did not need to be that disrespectful, but he made himself formidable enemies in Eto’o and Zlatan. Not that it appears to matter to him, but we the fans will have to settle with the burning question of “what if Pep had managed to coexist harmoniously with Eto’o and Zlatan? 🤔
I love Samuel Eto'o. One of my favourite strikers ever but he could go 85 mins without doing anything and still score two goals. That was never going to last with Guardiola. Inter really hosed them on that transfer though. Most lopsided deal in history
But Zlatan, Cancello, Joe Hart and Aguero are not Africans, are they? For all these persons, check why they all fell out with Pep. It's all either Pep's way or the high way. It's Eto'o that's been telling the stories all the while. It's one sided. I'll wait until Pep tells his own side of the story before I take a side. I'm a true African, living in Africa
Samuel Eto was the best goal scorer of his error it's unfortunate that Pep didn't like him because he wasn't a bootleaker he had to move on otherwise he could have achieved a bit more at Barca.
I just spotted my country Pakistan on the map at the back This rivalry between Pep Guardiola and Samuel Eto'o reminds me of the politics in my country Let's all kick out racism ,discrimination and politics out of the beautiful game football ⚽️
I think Eto'o and guardiola then were at different points in their respective careers, even Henry said Pep was a perfectionist, he had to learn how to play in Barca
Pep is a little crazy but he wants to creat a team that will work as a perfect machine. He doesn't want individual talent. The player is just a piece in his mechanism. If the player doesn't follow the rules imposed by Pep,he will get rid of him. Pep does the same in Manchester City. He gets rid of good players if they don't follow his ideas. No one can say anything to him because he is still winning trophys. It's true that the way Pep teams play is boring and safe, but he still wins and that is more important for him.😊
Pep will go down as probably the greatest manager of all time, because he has changed the game like no other (this is coming from an African guy, who supports City). However, no one can argue that Pep definitely has problems with African players, his history definitely demonstrates this. He does seem to be getting slightly better as he gets older and understands the world a little better
@@Evolspellitbackwards Pep had issues with players with egos and African players as anyone who knows Yaya knows he is humble . Even Keita and Mahrez where used as accessories rather than main parts of the team . I think everyone knows this about Pep. Same issue with Laurentis who is publicly a racist . Every man no matter how genius you are has an issue .
I think it was about the injuries and the cases with Frank Rijkaard that played on Pep's mind and want to let him go. Besides he wanted to inject new blood and bring his own identity. Maybe the way he did it was a bit untoward
Maybe but Pep is now a proven manager who has won it all multiple times. Now anyone who challenges him is an idiot. I’m sure if Eto faced off against 2024 Pep he would shut up and listen to him.
Pep is a wonderful manager but he is a perfectionist - always wants absolute control over his team of players and that you can not always do with some players as they are not school boys or kids. He is always having issues with his center forwards over the years : Samuel Eto'o, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robert Lewandowski, Sergio🎉 Aguero and Gabriel Jesus. The Legendary Sir Alex never told Cantona what to do or how to make those runs or create space or pass the ball or make assists. Even Carlo Ancelotti did not really coached the famous Milan back four of Cafu, Stam, Nesta and Maldini.
Eto and ibra are strong minded men. You can’t just talk and treat them with no respect. I think pep might be a little racist. A lot of black and Eastern Europe players said that about him. That just my opinion
Pep is not a racist. Pep doesn't like players who are unruly and not follow directions, specially regarding "positional discipline". Thierry Henry explained that on prime TV: He explained that once Guardiola benched him at half time after scoring because Henry stopped keeping his assigned position after the goal. There is no I in team, and many top players are "primadonnas" who only think of themselves and not the team. And Pep is not scared to bench them or even sack them at the end of the seaon.
Eto was a good player but a player can never be bigger than a coach. He had problems with Rijkaard, he had problems with Pep. Both great coaches who achieved alot. Better still, Pep achieved more without him. Same Eto who said he doesn't want to have anything with his daughter. Eto needs to work on his overinflated ego and stop lying to prove points
Pep doesn't want to have African players in his teams, for that reason he's just not of a goat as everyone proclaims him to be, look at Klopp, how he inspired Salah and Mane...
Pep can't manage ready made superstars but he knows how to create and nurture his own. He knows how to pick the right players who will play well in his system but buying ready made world class players to fit into his system doesn't ever work for him. It didn't work with Ronaldinho It didn't work with Zlantan and it didn't work with Samuel Eto
Very few people know that Etoo and Deco made a huge mistake , before the 1-4 clasicoo he intentionally got a suspending yellow card so he cannot participate the tunnel that Barça gave to madrid before the game . He was boowed after that by Barça fans the rest of the season
What you just explained is just childish. You seriously think that yellow card is the reason behind the feud even after this well made video explaining it all? If so, then you have the mind of a toddler.
True, but the Manager is only as good as his players. At least hindsight has taught us that Pep was wrong in his treatment of Eto’o. In any event, it’s always disappointing for a new manager to treat any player with so much disrespect, and in this case Pep did that to 3 absolute legends of the club. I wonder if that had anything to do with Barcelona recalling Ronaldinho and Deco to take up various roles in the club.🤔
@@kevinkinyuru1696 You are right about that. @leoguarknight1588 lol, Busquets might not have few traits from Yaya such as physicality, aggresion, and shooting. But as a cdm, Busquets IQ, positioning and passing is out of this world. He was unplayable. Pep played Yaya as a CB against Chelsea and Man Utd tho, bodied Drogba who cried for a penalty and bodied Ronaldo in the final as well. I see your point of Yaya being better, but if you watch Busquets, it was arguably the best midfield trio in the world (Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets) Edit: You probably play Fifa 🤣
When you look at what the team eventually became you can see why Pep didn’t want them. Messi was the striker so he needed a striker who could drop deep and bring others into the game. Eto was a world class striker but he was more of a goalscorer than a creator. Yaya was nothing like a Pep Barcelona midfielder. Again he was world class but he was an all action hyper athletic box to box player and Xavi, Busquets and Iniesta were the complete opposite. They were calm, patient ball retaining players. Also Pep needs his player’s mentality to match his own. He’s happy to ship off world class players if he thinks they aren’t 100% bought in to his philosophy.

Imagine scoring 35 goals during the season and even scoring in the Champions league final and still getting Traded
Pep Guardiola is devious
And the team still went on the be better without him 😂
There was a young bull on the up and space for him to grow into the greatest player ever needed to be made.
He was just a casualty of greatness.
Pep Guardiola is a coach...not a man manager.. that's why he always joins rich clubs...where he can buy the players whom he can dominate...

Pep was a younger guy then with talent and an ego that lent itself to to even wanting to control senior players who had achieved at the top level. With players liike Eto'o all you need to ensure is they are fit and motivated - then just tell them to do what they do, ffs!
To manage team require skill to form pattern for style of playing, you are crying of Etoo being ignored by pep, Etoo himself has no ability to manage even a village team

I don't think he is against African players in general tho. Like you gotta admit that Busquets clears Yaya Toure. Pep usually picks the best team without bias. But Eto'o is a great player and shouldn't have been replaced tbh. Maybe it is similar to Cancelo at City.

Eto'o is right
I didn't know Eto'o was supposed to move Man City! imagine him moving there at that time in his prime? It would've been interesting.
Many things here missing and are wrong :
- When Pep was promoted to Barca´s first team , Ronaldinho , Deco and Eto were at the chopping block.
Messi has been playing with Eto for a long time already and Messi looked up to him
- Guardiola change the system to the False 9 and make Eto play on the wing and Messi as the "Center Forward". At first they clash but after results were yielding and Eto was also playing good , it look something that they left on the past. Eto even at that position score vs United at the Final of the champions league
- Though in the end , Eto was replace for Zlatan because "taller , physical stronger and acrobatic" that would fit for Pep
- This problem also was not just with Eto , but it happend to with Zlatan and also with other players like Yaya Toure at Barca and then at City too lmao
- Funny thing is that "Haaland" is the "personification" of "what if Zlatan and Pep get along.
- Also we have to remember that Pep was just starting and him dealing with egos is not what he is today
- Over the years Pep got better on dealing with egos
@@Antoto96 yea i agree with you.
It was a clash of egos really, but to the neutral, it was a season to remember as both exelled on the pitch & dugout respectively.

yet they still won 6 goddamn trophies together in the same season , thats what i call professionalism
@@Zigmeister4it hasn't changed anything in his records. You can't play with everyone. Pep has ego, Eto'o has ego too, but the manager calls the shot

How about now with Haaland?

It’s funny how Pep doesn’t like African players but Jose does.
He did send a lot good players to early retirement.
Rate Eto'o? Well, 2005-2009 he is the no 1 striker in the world
Eto'o was legendarily difficult to work with for managers... So I am not surprised it didn't work out.
9:01 what a starting 11 that was! 😱
Samuel Eto was the best goal scorer of his error it's unfortunate that Pep didn't like him because he wasn't a bootleaker he had to move on otherwise he could have achieved a bit more at Barca.
I just spotted my country Pakistan on the map at the back
This rivalry between Pep Guardiola and Samuel Eto'o reminds me of the politics in my country
Let's all kick out racism ,discrimination and politics out of the beautiful game football ⚽️
I think Eto'o and guardiola then were at different points in their respective careers, even Henry said Pep was a perfectionist, he had to learn how to play in Barca
i cant blame Pep bcoz with Samuel departure Pep invented false 9
False 9 was started with Eto still there
false 9 was invented in Roma by Spaletti long before Pep started coaching
Rijkaard left after the '07/08 season not 08/09
Messi Etoo Dinho trio was a lot scarrier than NMS imho
All time great!!
The only black player that Pep had no problem with was Seydou Keita
Pep saw etoo as a threat as etoo was not afraid to speak up that's why ge wanted him to go.
He got the previous manager fired and as a senior player he had influence in the dressing room.
This was obviously going to happen.
Pep is a good coach in terms of middle filders. He never needed strikers that's why he likes Haaland coz he just do tap ins

I think it was about the injuries and the cases with Frank Rijkaard that played on Pep's mind and want to let him go. Besides he wanted to inject new blood and bring his own identity. Maybe the way he did it was a bit untoward
Its how life 🧬 is , when 1 cant stand of another person .
I think Pep has become calmer since then. He's certainly learned a lot from crossing paths with the likes of Mourinho, Eto'o and Zlatan.
Eto'o should've signed with Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa
Its all About Business for Pep , he doesn't care who you think you are , if you dont fit with his System ... You're Done
Eto is Eto you cannot sink him down out of your person dislike without a valid reason
Big Game Sam...best African footballer of all time.
Guardiola? Toxic asf.
Eto was a good player but a player can never be bigger than a coach. He had problems with Rijkaard, he had problems with Pep. Both great coaches who achieved alot. It didn't work with Ronaldinho
It didn't work with Zlantan and it didn't work with Samuel Eto
Very few people know that Etoo and Deco made a huge mistake , before the 1-4 clasicoo he intentionally got a suspending yellow card so he cannot participate the tunnel that Barça gave to madrid before the game .
He was boowed after that by Barça fans the rest of the season
What you just explained is just childish. You seriously think that yellow card is the reason behind the feud even after this well made video explaining it all? If so, then you have the mind of a toddler.
Manager always calls the shots
He is ultimately responsible for the result
True, but the Manager is only as good as his players. At least hindsight has taught us that Pep was wrong in his treatment of Eto’o. In any event, it’s always disappointing for a new manager to treat any player with so much disrespect, and in this case Pep did that to 3 absolute legends of the club. I wonder if that had anything to do with Barcelona recalling Ronaldinho and Deco to take up various roles in the club.🤔
and funny enough he got his revenge in 2009/10 when he met Pep playing Inter Milan.
Eto won two trebles back to back years. In two dif teams. That should speak of the player not the coach. Pep couldn’t beat eto period

I see your point of Yaya being better, but if you watch Busquets, it was arguably the best midfield trio in the world (Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets)
Edit: You probably play Fifa 🤣
