I´m a little surprised that Eto´o´s scoring record wasn´t better. He was so dangerous and a very good finisher. He was surely top 5 strikers in the past 30 years. He had everything in his game. Drogba was brilliant but Eto´o was just better. Delivered in the CL finals too.

You do have a point but during the peak period of Yaya Toure's, other African players had either past their prime or where still on the rise. Although that should not take anything away from how outstanding he was.
Both were great. I even think that Eto'o is sort of under rated, since when he played for Barcelona everybody talked about Ronaldinho. Yet he was the guy who scored most of the goals and at Inter he proved to any doubter that he could shine on his own.

Speechless. I am from St. Kitts in the Caribbean and I love Samuel E’to. I honestly resembles him and played forward like him. Literally a don’t know what to say. I get goose bumps whenever I see him or speak of him. He is lethal and lateral assassin and deserved more than he got. I think racism stopped him from getting the golden ball. Loved watching Eto'o play. He was super reliable and consistent in all matches. In my eyes at least out of he and drogba he is better and I watched both throughout their whole careers. I've never had the pleasure of watching Weah and Milla play unfortunately so I cannot comment on them.

Eto'o also won an Olympic gold medal with Cameroon at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. He reached the final of the FIFA confederation cup in 2003 with Cameroon in France. The only African team to ever reached that level. Even Drogba won't campare himself with Eto'o bcuz knows the difference between the two of them is very clear.

This debate will go on forever. Both players are very different and came up differently. Eto’o was brilliant, skillful, smart and one of the greatest goal scorers of his era. Drogba on the other hand was just a force of nature. It was just something about him that you really can’t quantify. He was a special player, feared across Europe yet adored every where he went. He had this invincibility about him that when at his best, there was a feeling the game wasn’t over yet regardless of the score. He had many intangibles.
Arguing who was better or putting one over the other does such injustice to what either of them were about or brought to the game. They both achieved iconic status and feature on most all time best player lists. When players get to that level, it’s just a matter of personal preference. The finesse of Eto’o or the brute of Drogba!
Etoó must have had a real great sense of revenge as the Champion's League run by Inter included knocking out Barca in the semi's.

If any1 remembers the Inter Milan vs Barca game where Etoo was deployed as a LB by Jose due to a controversial red card and Man the guy played there like he was a born LB.. What a game that was and for me one of the top 5 CL games of all time.. Barca robbed themselves in day light with swapping Ibra to Etoo with an additional fee of 40M something.. And Ibra sadly couldn't win CL ever in his career...

Man oh Man I love your videos. I was born in 2006 and I really wasn't into football/soccer until 2013, but I didn't know many players and I wasn't familiar with it until 2016. Being born in American people really didn't talk about it. This channel has helped me learn about the classic football players so thank you very much and keep up the amazing work.

Tough comparison to achieve given they differ in every single way save being African strikers. Drogba was played far more like a target man and very often the lone Striker, Etoo was in contrast either a wide player or central player in attacking pairs or trios. Also, Etoo played in far superior teams and arguably easier leagues to score in as a striker (at least with regards to La Liga, less so Serie A). This is not to say I disagree as I'm not in the best position to judge having seen far more of Drogba, but a lot of this comparison gives Etoo an advantage.
I don't know but the best match featuring two of them was a world cup qualifier between Ivory coast and Cameroon. They were both scoring all match.
They both had their good and bad moments and both players were unique in their career. Etoo was fantactic drogba was too.

I feel people really undervalue how good Drogba was at holding up play long enough for players like Lampard to advance which wouldn't always result in a goal or assist for Drogba but still meant he was pivotal to how that goal was scored. I still feel like maybe Eto'o edges it but Drogba played in very defensive teams for most his career, with the main exception being under Ancelotti.

Eto’o didn’t play for him until late 2009 with the treble-winning Inter Milan team and then later in 2013 at Chelsea when Eto’o was past his prime in a team that wasn’t really in a great position to do well. Jose has never once compared the 2 players. As a Chelsea fan I’ll be the 1st to tell you Didier Drogba was great, but Samuel Eto’o is one of the greatest strikers of all-time and arguably the greatest African player ever. It’s not exactly close 😅
As a Chelsea fan watching the Blues playing against Ronaldinho was bad enough but Eto’o OMG he was frightening in Europe when he was at his prime.

Eto’o all the way. Drogba was an amazing player in his own right but Eto’o in my opinion is the best striker in the history of African football. He as the striker had the best touch I’ve ever seen.

Eto’o was amazing and I think he’s absolutely underrated but no one is considering all the talented players around him. It’s easier to put up those numbers with the likes of Messi, Ronaldinho, Xavi, Ext… Drogba entered a young newly emerging Chelsea squad and still put up insane numbers. Both are great and very hard to compare!
