Paolo Maldini is the greatest Defender of all time no doubt. I think even Puyol deserves a video on him. Please make a video on Puyol, it's something I have been wanting to see on your channel for a long time.
The fact that the arguably best defender in history is never thought about in the GOAT debate speaks volumes about how underrated defenders are. Football fans and pundits are always centered on strikers.
Excellent defender but no defender will ever be the greatest. Beckenbauer, Maldini, Baresi, Moore, there are simply too many which make the decision impossible.
Yeah, it's unfortunate how attacking-centric greatness criteria is based on. Even in the current generation, everyone talks about Neymar or Suarez or Lewa or Zlatan being the 3rd greatest player, but people seem to forget about Neuer and Ramos
Milan legend Paolo Maldini is one of the greatest defenders I've ever seen. Legit class and an one club man like his father Cesare Maldini. Fun fact: Both Cesare Maldini and Paolo Maldini captained Milan to the Champions League titles. The only father and son duo to achieve this feat. Him and Inter Milan legend Javier Zanetti made the Milan derby exciting to watch.
He did occasionally move to CB even in his mid-20’s. For instance in the 1994 WC after Baresi got injured in the group stage, Maldini took over both the captains armsband and CB role until Baresi returned in the final. Then they paired up as CB’s to shut down Romario & Bebeto.

Well, Bobo Vieri hosts a podcast with Nicola Ventola, Antonio Cassano and Daniele Adani. Once in a while they do also invite people in those podcasts, and like that they had once Ronaldo. Ronaldo and Vieri were in their prime in the 90s and as strikers they were remembering the defenders of the good old days. Their memories were fixed on Maldini and to Pietro Vierchowod. I remember also a Champions League match between Bayern Munich and Milan, at the end of the match, another great defender, Philip Lahm, went to Maldini for an autograph, and of course the captain obliged. Those things show you how great Maldini is, and I'm not even a Milan fan.
He's still the golden standard for defending in Football. Truly one of the GOATs, and yes, I agree with the one comment here that says defenders should be named in the same vein as strikers and playmakers.

as a defender it’s hard as a CB if your fullbacks got sent and there is 2 people one in front of you and one in the wing its so hard to delay long enough to have your fullback be able to catch up, and he made it look hard to mess up in that situation
they didnt fear him, they respected him, elegant and skillfull defender, strikers feared defenders like vierchowod and goikoxetea (was something like that) the bask, they would really kick you in half
When someone asks me who I think is the goat of football, I don't debate between Messi and Ronaldo in my head. I debate between Zizou and Maldini. Maldini was and probably still is the greatest defender to grace the pitch. The man had everything both physically and mentally. He's won pretty much everything at a club level, and he totally deserved at least one balon d'Or over the course of his career. It's a shame he wasn't part of the 2006 Italy squad, the world cup missed out on being picked up by one of the greatest footballers to ever live.

Not just feared, but he is the most loyal, well respected Defender and footballer ever. He rarely resorted to dirty tactic, if ever, even when faced with a striker at Ronaldo Nazario caliber. The only other defender that's almost his equal in Maldini era were Cannavaro and Hierro.
This video was amazing but I believe Vinnie Jones was actually the toughest defender to ever play the game. He is the actor of the Juggernaut character in the X-Men series. He also hard tackle and wanted to start a fight both Roy Keane and Eric Cantona on the same pitch but neither men engage with him fearing the worst as yet to come and instead walk away.
these old footage of tackles are like proof of how far players today has fake diving.. like 80% of those tackles would ended up in players faking pain on grass just to buy some time or trying to make opponents got cards
Is this a re-upload? Cos I believe you did something on him recently, and there was the argument in comments about if he was feared or respected? ("Fear" was argued for the likes of Jaap Stam, Vinnie Jones, you know, those crazy, career-ending, hard tacklers) while "Respected" would be Maldini, Cannavaro, Puyol, you know).
É preciso mudar urgentemente os critérios de análise. Se existe o atacante craque, existe também o zagueiro craque. E que muitas vezes sem ele um clube ou uma seleção pode perder. E Maldine foi um super craque.
The school of defending in Italy did a good job of getting talented youngsters that could had been great attackers to instead be defenders, so you ended up with Maldini's Nesta's because if you saw them play, you'll appreciate how good they were with the ball
Nah this is actually crazy just by the clips you are showing in this video its obvious that he is in a league of his own. I always knew maldini is one of the greatest but damn I have never seen someone defending like that
something not mentioned in the video, he had ability in both feet and his main foot is the right one! Yes, he is right footed but could do everything with his left too. I just called a 50yo friend of mine and asked him what was maldini's best foot and his answer was "the left one"! He watched the whole maldini's career and it was his normal conclusion but maldini is fundamentally a right footed human with exceptional ability, through work put, on his left.
It’s absurd that people don’t talk about how technically gifted Maldini was. He could dribble well, ping beautiful long passes, had elite ball control.
It was a joke: when asked who was the best player he played against he said "Maradona and Ronaldo (Nazario)", when further asked who was better between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo he said, and I translate literally from italian (as I'm italian) "I never played against Messi, thank God", while smiling ear to ear. It was clearly a joke. Seriously, I understand fanboying, but you're talking about someone who faced the absolute best players of 3 generations, including people who are still consided the best ever (Maradona, Platini, Ronaldo (Nazario), Zidane, just to name a few) and gave them all a very hard time, do you really think he would have been scared of facing Messi so much he considered himself lucky to not have to play against him?
In a time where goals assists are be all and end all people forget that football is so much more than that. He is one of the greatest football players ever . A right footed left back that was a master of the game. Very few play top level until they are 40 years old the ones that do are the very best pure class.
The best video to show how much respect and sometimes even fear others had for him is the video where he goes up to Gattuso, tells him to fuck off and stop arguing with the ref because he already has a yellow card. Gattuso doesn't say a single word and just walks away head down. That's aura, that's leadership.

Nah this is actually crazy just by the clips you are showing in this video its obvious that he is in a league of his own. I always knew maldini is one of the greatest but damn I have never seen someone defending like that
This guy is the best football story content creator
Can u do one for Cannavaro.
He's simply the best. ♥🖤
Please do a video of Manuel neuer or Oliver khan they are one of the best keepers ever imp

I’m sure I’ll be the only one requesting this, but I would love to see a video on Ricardo Carvalho.
I rank Maldini 1st in Defense, and 3rd when it comes to footballers overall
I think Baresi was better
@@blank1933 nah, he was super great still
something not mentioned in the video, he had ability in both feet and his main foot is the right one!
Maldini is the goat defender, top 3 best defenders all came from Milan, Maldini,Baresi n Nesta Forza Milan!
That side pitch turn-tackle never failed to impress 🙌
It’s absurd that people don’t talk about how technically gifted Maldini was. He could dribble well, ping beautiful long passes, had elite ball control.
There is only 1 GOAT Defender in the world of Professional football. Paolo Maldini.
Best LB ever by miles and top 3 in central defending position with beckenbauer and baresi. What a player
Crazy he said he was happy he didn't play against young messi🤯
He is a Gentleman. If He really would have played against messi He would have done what He always did... stopping the opponent!
@@Carlos-xj8lf Naw, Maldini said he was lucky not to face Messi.
@@lemonjuicegaming6551 this messi cannot handle modern day defenders how will he handle maldini who man marked zidane and r9 lmao
Naw, he can handle any tackle.
These Kappa Italy Jersey were sooo dope. Italian clubs have the poshest jerseys too.
Maldini: I never faced Messi, Thank God..
Reporter: He’s Lucky
Maldini: No, I am..
Maldini was just being modest It you can Mark prime Roberto Baggio, prime R9, prime Romario Who Is Messi?
@@mondemarobobo408 Messi is the GOAT…and is also the Greatest Dribbler of all time…none of those 3 can hold a candle next to Messi..
@@vb2388 don't wank him too hard, messi may have been better but not by that much especially not against their prime
@Awsultrapro R9 isn’t even better than Maradona, how is he better than Messi? 😂
@Awsultrapro I love R9 but that simply ain’t true, Messi is arguably the greatest dribbler ever
Paolo Maldini: The Man who made me Love Futbol...and Defense! 😍🥰🤩⚽⚽⚽
He said that he was lucky not to play against messi.
He would destroy messi
@@Moribax85 check Maldini said that
In a time where goals assists are be all and end all people forget that football is so much more than that. He is one of the greatest football players ever . A right footed left back that was a master of the game. Very few play top level until they are 40 years old the ones that do are the very best pure class.
Wonderful video!! Thanks
Should've won ballon do'r 1994. He won Serie A, CL and reached WC final that year.
The best video to show how much respect and sometimes even fear others had for him is the video where he goes up to Gattuso, tells him to fuck off and stop arguing with the ref because he already has a yellow card. Gattuso doesn't say a single word and just walks away head down. That's aura, that's leadership.
Ha imparato da Baresi
