The faster tempo, the slightly different vocals, Kirk’s 2 solos and James solo makes this version way cooler! 🤘🏻💪🏻😎

It has a different energy to it, but I absolutely love the studio version as well. It's a great song and one of the underrated ones by the band themselves, they should bring it back

This version of 2X4 absolutely kills the studio album version! Even during this time period which was literally a year before they released Load, Metallica sounded fantastic live! I wish they kept the solos that Kirk played live during this set instead of the solos we got on the actual record. Also, James’s vocals are much more Badass in this live version than the studio album. If I was at this show and heard them play this version of 2x4, I would have never guessed that they were about to change their sound! This performance is really awesome!

James sounded great during this period of Metallica. It wasn’t until Cunning Stunts came out around 1997 that James’ vocals started to sound less than stellar! Hell, James started singing like this again within the last couple of years. He had a very long period where he wasn’t even trying to sing like he sounded on the albums. I’m just glade his vocal performances have improved once again. Now this live version of 2x4 is epic!!! This version is so much better than the album version! I always wondered why Metallica havent played this song live since the mid 90s.

Load and reload are great rock albums. Many of them are not trash metal but rock and bluesy ones. Many people dislike these but I think these albums were far better than St. Anger and better than Dead Magnetic.

Yeah, they've done that thing of playing songs before being released on albums a few times. They played Disposable Heroes in 1985 before Master of Puppets came out, they also played Devil's Dance from Reload in this show, and they played Cyanide around a month before Death Magnetic came out, plus the two "new songs" from 2006 that ended up never being released on albums, except for some riffs of New Song used on The End of the Line and All Nightmare Long.

Metallica had a golden opportunity to rebrand themselves in the mid-90s without losing what set them apart. If Load/ReLoad had album artwork done by Pushead, the photos showed the band dressed normally, and they cut songs like "Slither" or "Attitude", limiting the album to just the best cuts, this could have been another classic. Instead of the two bloated albums with weird pictures/covers, they could have released one solid album loaded with modern classics. That seems to be a common theme with this band, they have interesting ideas that are executed poorly: St Anger was supposed to be a return-to-roots but just sounded ridiculous, Death Magnetic was the comeback but had horrible production, Hardwired & 72S drag on too long. Oh well, no one's perfect. Either way, Load & ReLoad have plenty of good songs among the more forgettable tracks.
