      Considering how much is retconned and written in later, dude, these first 2 games are a loose baseline if anything. It's so obvious that Big Boss was not actually a villian at all despite the weird writing he was given here. Kojima wrote Snake Eater and fans loved Big Boss so that basically "changes" things, among many other things. Just look at the ending of MGS 4 lmao. Big Boss is completely washed of any villian energy.

      @The_Good_Ole_Boi Well that's a theory and I personally think it makes sense. The Ishamell we see in the game is not actually the real big boss, it is just a deception of Mantis. An example of this is Ishamell remaining motionless and waiting for the actor in many scenes. (For example, giving you a gun and telling you to hold the other side and you holding the other side, but not firing a shot, going from staircase to staircase and suddenly coming out, is an example of this)

      Reminder that while Big Boss is a GREAT Soldier, that is NOT forever, and the REAL victor is always the one who knows how to turn things around! Big Boss DID come to kill Snake himself, a man that WAS NOT SUPPOSE TO SURVIVE AS LONG AS HE DID! At least giving him the RESPECT owed before killing him, Snake pulled off that win by the SKIN OF HIS TEETH! Reminds me of ALL those action movies like Die Hard 1 where the main character is practically naked without a Fire Arm and has to think fast and quick and get lucky or BE DEAD (and why I liked Die Hard 1 FOREVER) People can have their INVINCIBLE RAMBO 2 LIKE RAMPAGER! I'll take my Survival Horror like Hero's like DH1 John Mcclane's and Metal Gear Snakes any day)
      And the Cobra Unit DID aim to kill him SANS The End who WAS pulling his punches! Essentially though Big Boss had to EARN his kills on them, but as someone stated, the Boss and them WERE aiming for Big Boss to WIN in the end, just not easily!

    People who are confused how big boss dies to a makeshift flamethrower, given the context of the rest of the series, fail to realize that Kojima probably hadnt conceptualized the rest of the series in his head yet. We're talking about an 8 bit video game here. At this point Kojima more than likely didnt have a full backstory for big boss created yet. Each game expands the lore... in MGS1 he was actually able to tell a full story with voice acting and cut scenes, and the ending of MG2 only raises questions with the context of Metal Gear Solid 3. So why did big boss lose to a spray can when he had managed to beat the fury? Simple, this is an 8 bit video game with limited story and dialogue. It was never going to hold up to the rest of the series. It could use remake given the context of MGS4 and 5.

    This in my opinion is that final stepping stone needed to emotionally bridge the gap between the themes of 8-Bit MSX games / prequel storyline & the ending of MGS4. Personally, I think the ending is good, but the added context of the fractured father, son, clone, relationship isn’t really established until a retcon in the Prison / torture sequence in MGS1 where Snake says “he told me he was my father” which he never says in either translation of the original scene in the MSX game. Because of the lack of cinematography and acting, the arguable most pinnacle turning point in the entire series when Snake burns Big Boss to a crisp isn’t as emotional and raw as I feel it needs to be and doesn’t allow ending of 4 to hit me as emotionally as I felt it did for others even though I love the entire series and the story/character development.
    When Snake finally exclaims “I love life”, the beginning of his split from John’s self-ordained fate begins as he grows to become a noble and honorable man / Hero as the franchise progresses. Once he finds friendship and comrades with Otacon, Campbell, Raiden, Sunny, Meryl- he does not allow himself to be chained to Big Boss’s twisted worldview and becomes more like John from the beginning of MGS3, far more friendly, down to earth, and respectfully personable.
    When Big Boss & Snake reunite in MGS4, the acting and writing is so good, but having this conversation between Snake and Boss when they are on opposite sides + context of Big Boss’s sadistic and nihilistic worldview prior to his 180° in 4 presented with fully acted and scored cutscenes is my greatest dream (I hope the remake series is done well and respectfully, because to see these games in 3D will literally have all the potential to be an incredible experience).
    Also @Just_Some_Guy_with_a_Mustache loved your comment on how Venom (who had the role of Big Boss forced on him unknowingly), dies to a badass rocket launcher explosion, however Big Boss in all his grandstanding and hypocrisy (all to shield himself from his tortured soul and guilt) is burnt to a crisp in the most climatic, yet pitiful and horrifying way possible. As I am writing this, I sincerely believe Kojima intentionally put in a Return of the Jedi parallel for this very fact, as for when big boss is resting on the grave during the final
    Cutscene of MGS4, he finally says to Snake “You were right” echoing Vader’s redemption and final conversation with Luke (estranged family members finally finding love and peace). Once he is healed by the ending of MGS4, the contrast of having this interaction and death scene as a cinematic experience would, imho, finally make all the beautiful subtleties of the acting and emotion in the ending of 4 finally hit home for me.
    (that “Last Day in Outer Heaven” fan animation / comic is 110% canon in my eyes and shows just how far John had fallen in his quest for control compared to the much quieter and reserved soul of Venom & his reunion with Quiet in the afterword & the butterfly).

    They should have remade this game instead of MGS3. Like, do we really think MGS3 needed a remake that badly? The game came out for the PS2. Yeah sure it doesn't have modern graphics, but the PS2 graphics don't hold it back *that* much, right? This game though, this is one of the most important games in the series, and it's stuck in 8 bit! This game desperately needs a remake with how important it is to the overall series. Like, this game features one of the most important missions in Snake's life, his connection to Gray Fox, and his showdown with Big Boss.
    The conversation they have before they fight is SO important and meaningful to the series, Snake rejecting Big Boss' worldview and unwaveringly believing that there is more to life for them than being eternally in the battlefield is what characterizes his actions in every other game he is in. We need a remake of this game!

    • @DSTORQUE

      Agreed. If they are going to do remakes, they should definitely remake Metal Gear 1 & 2! MGS3 still looks and plays great. Pulling these 2D games into 3D and adding voices would give the remake a point to exist imo.

    • @TREVORVADER
      @TREVORVADER 2 месяца назад +2

      Yeah I think the two Metal Gear games deserve the remake treatment. MGS2 onwards hold up just fine.
      My only issue would be if they did something stupid like trying to have David Hayter voice both characters. Big Boss would definitely need Richard Doyle or another VA for sure imo.
      I don’t see bringing Kiefer Sutherland back unfortunately if nothing else than because of costs.

    • @the_honored_onee
      @the_honored_onee Месяц назад +1

      @TREVORVADER Was Kiefer really that expensive tho? Now I can't help but think that this thing is made up. So far I haven't seen any evidence that could really support this claim. Of course, Kiefer is a big actor so we can suspect that he was expensive, but we really don't know that. It looks more like a myth. On top of that, we have Kojima himself saying that his choice was to make the protagonist for MGSV more silent so player can more relate to them and build his own Big Boss
      So, could it be that besides cut content, Venom was just meant to be this way?

    With the context of the other games, and knowing the conversation shown in game isn't exactly what happened, I actually believe that Big Boss's speech to Solid Snake isn't what he desires for the world to be, but explaining what the current state of the world is, just as The Boss did to Naked Snake all those years ago. And just as Naked Snake was under the lie from the Philosophers that The Boss was a traitorous villain, Solid Snake is being used by the Patriots to destroy their biggest threat.
    In the end of MGSV: TPP, it's stated by Ocelot that the *true* Outer Heaven created by Big Boss is to be free and independent from the Cycles of War and Revenge between countries. In MGS4, Big Boss explains that the Patriot norms went under a mutation to be dependent on the war economy and and it's endless cycle. Skullface himself states that the thirst for revenge will infest the system of Cipher/The Patriots. If you pay attention to Venom and Skullface's backstory, his design, their dialogue, the trailers for MGSV and Kojima's twitter, you'll piece together that Venom Snake is the one who nurtured and thrived in the chain of retaliation. He carries on Skullface's will and walks down his path, weather he knows it or not, which is represented by his Outer Heaven logo being Skullface. Big Boss could have sent Solid Snake to Venom Snake knowing it would expose him to The Patriots and come down to what we see now. Such a tragic tale the life of Big Boss is...

      yeah, no. Peace Walker shows him renouncing the idea of peace because it deprives soldiers of their purpose. His idea of "freedom from the Patriots" was just one where war always happened so the people who fight it always have something to do. The Patriots leeched off the war economy for an effective model on how to run the world but the seeds for that economy were planted by Big Boss.

      @@0nlyShadowS I get you, and I agree with you, it never had an explanation. The reality is Kojima didn't have enough time at Konami to retcon this part too😂. What we can assume is that either real Big Boss had to play this part of the survivor in order for Solid Snake to not reveal to the world there was a double or, which would make more sense, he got injured while fighting for Zanzibar Land. But then again, only Kojima could have retconned it

    the real big boss was in deep coma and awakes in the end of MGS 4 when you search snake meet big boss it explained that all solid snake encounters are the clone of big boss venom snake and solidus they have all genes of bigboss but only in 70% of the real strenght of big boss

      Huh? No. This video is Snake facing the real Big Boss. This is how he ends up in a coma. In the original Metal Gear, Solid Snake faces Venom Snake. Also, where did you get this 70% thing? Solid and Liquid are clones of Big Boss with focus on his recessive and dominant genes while Solidus is balanced in genes and thus the perfect clone. And Venom Snake isn't a clone of Big Boss. He's a top soldier who got surgery and hypnotherapy so that he could serve as Big Boss's body double while also believing himself to be Big Boss.
