I should have commented sooner. Instead I ran to Home Depot. LOL. I've been slowly working on updating my daughter's room. One of the items was a desktop in her "cloffice" that I was going to make out of plywood. I've been wracking my brain for weeks trying to figure out how to do the edge. I planned on cutting out her desk on Saturday the 25th. I sat down and turned on RUclips the night before, and this video pops up, having been uploaded 2 hours before. The timing was beyond amazing, and I learned of an awesome product called edge banding. It worked perfectly and looks beautiful! Thank you so much!!
Hi Anika
Nazeem from South Africa here...55 yr old grandpa...worked all my work life in an office...just so excited about woodworking...starting to get a small workshop together in my garage...bought some tools...now watching all kinds of RUclips vids to help...YOURS....particularly helpful for novice like myself...easy to understand....no jargon...Thanks alot ma'am.
Excellent tutorial. I can see great applications for all three ways to clean up edges on plywood. Thanks Anika.
Very informative and exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!
I liked you immediately! Loved how easy you make it seam and all the options you give. Thank you so much. I'm building my first project a craft table and I'm using 3/4" plywood. So thanks once again for this information.
I am interested to make small projects as you mentioned, But I don't know where to start. I found you RUclips channel, I am soo impressed and I got nice ideas. Thanks you very much.
You can do it!
Anika, how can u make everything look so effortless and easy? I’m obsessed with your videos ❤

Very good information, thank you!
You are a great teacher. thanks.
I appreciate that!
Very nice and informative video.
How well does the glued edge laminate hold? We have a desk that the factory banding is coming loose from resting arms on the edge. I superglued part of it back on, and it seems to be holding, but part of it has been broken off, and this method you demonstrated would be great I think, if the edging stays on really well.
Thank you.
Hello! Amazing! I love this tutorial! I'm excited to start on projects! We just recently bought 7 acres and I'm going to begin my carpentry journey! Starting with raised garden beds! I'm looking for a unique twist with an industrial strength type base on a medium sized budget. However, I'm willing to spend extra money upfront for durability and longevity. Thank you!
Awesome video Anika, very useful for beginners . . . thanks so much!
You are so welcome!
First time I’ve seen ur utube. Subscribed and liked. Bought an 18” braid nailer, Ryobi months ago. You made it easy for me …..how to use it and put the nails in. I’m a show and tell type a person. Thanks!
Love it! Thanks for sharing, show and tell is my thing too!
Great Information!
Glad it was helpful!
Anika, great video!
Glad you liked it!!
Another great video! How do you cover the actual plywood and not just the edges? Is laminate used for that purpose? A video showing that would be super helpful! Thanks again for sharing! :)
You can use laminate over plywood, but if you use Grade A plywood it's got a nice surface and all you need to cover is the edges!
@@Anikasdiylife thanks! You are a very good teacher and super helpful. Appreciate you sharing the knowledge. If u have any tutorials on fitted wardrobes that would be great
Thanks Anika. I am thinking about building an Office Desk Nook in a bay window. Your tutorial gave me just the information I needed with regards to covering plywood edges without breaking the bank.
Wonderful! Have fun with the project!
Very awesome! Thanks
My pleasure!
Hi Anika, you are my favorite RUclips wood worker, keep it up! Question, can you paint edge banding? If you stain, it changes color?
Yes you can certainly paint it. And it can be stained too.
Nice one, very complete !
I have learned sooooo much from you 😍
Love that! THANK YOU!!
excellent video.
Thanks Anike, very good!
Thank you too!
I love your videos! Subscribed 😊

Can the edge banding be applied after the carpenter stained spakled edges? Thanks!, awesome video
Thank you!
I need to deal with a 4x8 sheet of birch plywood. And suggestions for dealing with long sides?
Thank you for the video 😊
Hi Anika,I would love to see you build a freestanding wardrobe with a jig tool like the kreg one's or similar. Thanks for the great video's you make.
Putting that on the project list!
Great job. Very useful information.
Great tutorial! Which Bosch sander are you using?
Hi. Should you fill the gaps in the edges with the putty before using edge banding?
Nope! You don’t need to.
You can smooth and paint the edges even if you stain the project. Just mix up a small batch of paint the same color as the darker components of the grain in the stained plywood. It will blend right in. This can even be done if you use a router to shape the edges. Take into account the effect on color of your polyurethane over the paint. Make some sample tests edges until you are satisfied with the look. Make your own edging for free by cutting thin strips from the scrap solid wood. Even pine works just fine. (accidental poetry) Glue the strips on with wood glue and clamps or masking tape. I like to make the strips 1/8" thick, but it's not difficult to make them less than 1/16". The thin "frame" that results is hardly noticeable. But once someone does notice it, it looks like a formal design element that belongs there. In fact it does belong there. Those edges will need to be sanded smooth and then can be stained or painted.
very good!
Thank you! Cheers!
I am so grateful I found your profile💐🌹💐
Happy you are here!
Love it 😍never heard of edge banding before can it be applied into cardboard material furniture ?
Not sure about that. You might have to test it out. I think it maybe challenging because the glue needs something to hold on to.
@@Anikasdiylife I actually did it and worked great
@@krlrussell2796 That is great to know! thanks for sharing!
Great 👍
thank you - much appreciated
You're welcome!
I liked your guidance & I like u
Hi Anika ❤ you so clear my love
Hi, do I apply the edge wood tape first and then stain the plywood?
Yes. That way you get the same same color.
Can I paint the edge banding?
Yes! Absolutely!
Great
im trying to make a home theater setup, need couches. I dont want to spend $5000 on a good couch, and I dont want to spend
You can do it but it's often complicated and not worth it for the plywood depending on what you're building. You can watch the video on the Kitchen Floating Shelves project where I did this and decide what you think! ruclips.net/video/i3eRHAu9u2o/видео.htmlsi=ESDX6LBG_WC_CnU8
Such great tips! Thank you!!!
