everything you said i have thought/said/done, well except the depression. There is nothing better than going for a drive at twilight, with a thunderstorm above you, hearing the rain hitting the car, watching the drops through your lights, watching your wipers go back and forth, and listening to your radio slightly quietly permeating the white noise. such a therapeutic thing. LOVED this video, all of it was so true
This perfectly describes me. Driving is my absolute escape from things. It doesn't matter if it's beating it down a B-road or just popping up to the shops all drives for me is my alone time, my therapy, I have been through so much shit mentally and no amount of therapy or counselling has helped as much as driving has. Your videos have helped me so much too because of them I decided to start going to car meets to meet like minded people. Best thing I've ever done.. Thank you
story time: where I used to live was right off of a state road in Indiana (SR261) that connected two very small towns, southern Indiana is very hilly in spots and also very farm landish so we don't have alot super curvy fun roads to drive on, except this one. it has peaks and dips and a bunch of on camber turns and fast straights. Now, my first and only car was and is a 2005 Volvo XC70 wagon with 208hp and 185k miles, that is effectively a v70 on stilts so its not the best back road warrior you can buy. Anyway, every day on my way home from school I had 2 options: turn off and go sit at home, or keep going down the best road in town. That road is the thing that has gotten me through the toughest times in my life. and that's where I fell in love with driving, on a potholed road in the comfy leather of a 10 year old wagon with a bad ignition coil.
Driving is really a good activity in a way. Add a manual gearbox and some nice engine sound, it's uncanny how just driving can cure many things. And yes, connecting to the world of Automotive with the community is one of the closest circle of friends created out there. Good video!
I know exactly what you are going through man. Tenth grade was a very hard year for myself as well. I just remember going to lunch that first day and having nobody to sit with. It's definitely a struggle. I feel for you man, and just keep your head up. I know making new friends isn't the same, but that gives you the opportunity to treat your time you do have with them seem more special. Just get through your classes and make the rest of your day your fullest moments. Thanks for watching!
I can truly relate to what you said. It clears the mind to just drive, especially with the scenery that you have. I live in a congested city that can be quite stressful to drive in during weekdays and Saturdays. I usually drive out during Sundays to replenish my sanity for the coming workweek.
I love driving! It's one of the few things I truly enjoy & am knowledgeable about. I've gone through 6 cars in my 23 years on this planet & I'm just as happy driving a newer car as I was with my first car, a 1997 Civic DX manual trans & no power steering! My current car is a 1999.5 Volkswagen Cabrio GLX - bright red with black leather & a stick shift. This car brings me more happiness than anything I've ever owned, including my now sold 2012 MINI Cooper (was a total lemon). Nothing better & more relaxing that getting out in the car with the top down, driving down a back road & listening to my favorite songs! Plus, the "wind through the hair" feeling is great. Get to see lots of foliage, trees & sky that you normally would never see. I totally agree - no matter how miserable I'm feeling, driving always makes me feel better & is a great way to clear your head.
I should know a thing or 2 about these topics in all aspect and I will say, Yes, its the BEST medicine! There are lots of things that are therapeutic about driving and it doesn't have to be fast or spirited or reckless. In this video, you speak truth and for that I salute you! Very nice video @ThatDudeinBlue
Driving is sooooo therapeutic for me. I like driving in general to be honest. Long trips don't really bother me as long as I have some good music and usually an awesome co-pilot. Whenever I've got something going on in my life and I just need to get away, I will grab the keys more often than not. You're so spot on in this video.
I fill up my tank and just go for a drive on some back roads once and a while. Listen to the car and listen to some nice music, it is amazing. Even though I am much happier now-a-days with my friends and just how life is going, I still go for back road drives. It has been therapy to me ever since the middle of high school with my friends. Good words David!
I agree. It's calming just to drive around, and see how nature unfolds, it could be with the windows down and music blaring, or the windows up. The sense of just being in a world of your own, is the ultimate feeling. And it doesn't hurt nobody neither. I agree. Driving is WONDERFUL! And when you mix it with music, and fresh air, it's even better. I definitely love seeing new areas, and taking adventures just because! It's fun!
Very well said, during bad days all i do is drive without any destination to clear my head. Sometimes i would find myself driving for hours just for the sake of it. Enjoying the open road even if i don't have bad days driving is still very pleasurable for me for as long as it is not stuck in traffic. You had everything on point including the singing and driving not being a chore.
I totally agree, I look forward to the drive to and from school/work in my 2003 VW mkIV GTI VR6...running throw that six speed and the best six cylinder sound I could ever hear, no music, no worries, just the experience...
We have a similar thing in common. I also went through a serious case of depression, I am grateful that I discovered the car culture and this fast growing movement. You are right, we only have one life and we should do what we enjoy. Its about making the best out of a situation.
Haha! It's actually not too bad I wasn't meaning to bash it. I was just trying to get a little more relatable. I know if I used the Mustang a lot of people would be "well duh your driving is fun" haha. Thanks for watching and the support!
I absolutely agree with you. When I was 19 years old I had several clinical depression caused by a bad experience that I had with the University. I was and I'm a car guy and driving helped me so much to think, leave my bad feelings away and fix my mind. I felt very close to you. Cheers.
if i had a car i would love to drive and kinda do what you are doing, just cruise around and just talk about random things, once i watched this video it was a eye opener to me and also opened up my mind abit aswell
hey i just couldnt have said it better myself. it is soooo cool to see that other pepople think exactly the same way. since i was a little kid, cars meant the world to me and it hasnt changed a single bit. in fact it got "worse" or better by each day. i just love driving so much!
Great video! I've been studying today for 7 hours non stop, university comes with an immense amount of work. I decided to take a break and found this video, what timing! I am completely stressed over the amount of work still to do! However this really helped to watch this, I too find peace and can relax to go out and drive. Playing guitar, skating, or going for a run also help but the main stress relievers are driving and guitar!
We have so much in common. And I think driving helps with everyday life and its struggles. Your videos are awesome and we all look forward to seeing many more videos.
I have a 2005 rx8 now but i had just as much fun driving around the city in my old 2001 accord always the best way to clear my head and feel happy and at peace after a bad day.
I completely agree with this. I always go for a drive when I've had a bad day or just have alot on my mind. I've noticed it helps me think about things alot more than just sitting at home and doing nothing. Everyone tells me it's a waste of gas or money except for my close friends who also share the love of driving. Completely agree it is money well spent because it helps me feel better
Very true words, after watching this video I decided to go for a drive instead of just waiting around on my laptop for an hour until my next class. Really like your videos, keep them coming!
I really dig your message. Here in Wisconsin I cant drive my car (99 pontiac trans am) year round, so I got myself a winter/daily driver. A 2011 Jeep wrangler I thought if I cant drive my modded car, get a 4 wheel drive worth modding. It's a very different driving experience, but still great in it's own way and it's gotten me in to a totally different car culture.
That's reason I love driving, you're spot on! I can relax, think about how I cope with my problems. I love it so much that even hardcore traffic can't anger me ;) Now I have Fiat Grande Punto (in basic a city car) but now, just after I graduated, I'm gonna do everything to get my dreamt since being a kid - Ford Mustang, especially 5.0 Coyote and driving it in every free time. Maybe take it to Nurburgring :) Cheers David! Greetings from Poland! Keep the quality of your vids and be yourself!
Driving actually helps me out but ever since my mother lost her vehicle I do nothing and I miss just driving around , all my problems disappear for that moment , my focus is hand and feet , I'm free it was hard for me to actually turn off the car lol , but thanks dude brought back great times and really cheered me up , can't wait to drive again :)
I have always seen driving like this even though I still don't have a license or a car. I just picture how therapeutic it would be to take my car and put my favorite music on, especially at night, when the roads are mostly empty. I already do something similar with my bicycle and I absolutely LOVE it. I just ride to wherever, no idea where I'm going, preferably using quiet small roads to clear my head. Then, I open Google maps to find my way home again. While I do it, I am alone, but not lonely, I don't know, it just feels home😌
I totally agree with you, driving really helps me sometimes. And as you say not cause you have a fast car I've never had one (I'm definetly have one in the future but thats not the point) I mean driving is one of the best things you can do, When you are in your car going backroads or top speed on our german Autobahn you just feel free and thats one of the best feelings ever. .
Here in Ontario, Canada, insurance rates for young drivers are higher than anywhere else in the country. I have been car obsessed all my life but I just never thought I coud afford it at 19. This has inspired me to do whatever it takes to get a car, even if it is $500 lol. Great video David, Huge, new fan of yours! :)
Simply put, driving = stress reliever. It doesn't solve a problem, but it calms you down and relaxes your mind. I just took 2 trips this weekend with no destination. However I wanted to add that when you mod your car, it feels like the medicine works 10x better. You begin to appreciate the roads, car, scenery, etc. Especially when you put your own "blood, sweat, and tears" into your car. Not saying you cannot enjoy driving without a modded car, just saying it's a much more rewarding experience.
Just bought a 2013 Mustang GT and man I cannot wait until it gets over to me. I live in the United Kingdom (US Air Force) and it's going to be about 7 weeks until it gets here. I will be cruising my new car as much as I can when I have nothing else to do. Great video!
i just found this video and i totally agree. I mean my first car(current car) is my moms old edge sel. and i do enjoy it even though its not that fast or sporty. Its not about what you drive, but how you drive.
Another great video David! I also had that experience with some depression and i agree that driving literally got me through it. And now that im at college i dont have a car and want to get back out there and drive an empty back road
That's good man, soon I should be driving too. It's great to be adventurous and not boring like some people I know( old friends) always coming out with dumb excuses on why they don't want to go outside.
Now, this will be my first comment on RUclips ever. I could not agree with you more and of all the videos I've seen you post this is probably my favorite one. My first car was a Saturn sc2 2002 and then a 2008 Rx8 and after that my 13 mustang gt. What I noticed was that as the older I got the faster cars I'm driving but the less aggressive driver. I guess its because I've gotten older and started appreciating the scenery and roads that I drive on, specifically colonial parkway in Williamsburg.
Haha, well I based it on two things: The film ' Getaway in Stockholm ' featuring a 911 Turbo and the old Steve McQueen movie ' The Getaway '. My idea of a ' Getaway ' is to go out for a drive. It's the ulimate freedom. I agree with everything David said here, apart from the fact that I prefer to go really fast without music playing to distract me. Especially on the german autobahn and our b-roads...Fluent driving, fully concentrated on my shifting, steering etc...Real driving...Greetings, Guido
I didn't need to watch the video to already know my answer to the title: YES ! It sort of depends on the car for me, I hate cars that don't feel like they want to involve you, but overall there's no better way to escape from your daily life struggle than driving...There's a reason for my channel-name, David :) I actually don't think about anything else than my driving while driving. I'm fully concentrated on doing what I absolutly love doing. That's why it's my medicine ;) Greetings, Guido
I never thought about driving that way. It makes sense. I've always enjoyed road trips alone. Even before having a Mustang. Just me, my car, my music and my thoughts. A couple of times I did go for a drive to clear my head and calm down. Even though they say you should not drive when angry, but it does help. I don't think I would say it's the best medicine, but good medicine. Really good medicine when it's Mustang GT.
Even though I hate mustangs cause I can see about twenty of them within a half hour up here in boston and other reasons, I subbed cause your videos just keep getting better.
I like going for drives because it helps relax my eyes after sitting at a computer all day focused closed up on a screen. +1 to going for drives first thing in the morning on the weekend and at sunsets. I live in a hot climate so getting my windows tinted and having a sunroof adds to the experience. I also think XM radio is a good investment because there's nothing worse than distracting/annoying commercials or static when you go out of range. And I like to keep my phone free for nav/calls.
Good vid, I feel the same way. My parents always nag me about spending money on my 01 Ford Taurus. They say it's not worth spending money on exhaust or a sound system, but I disagree. My Taurus is all I got, and I work with it. At the end of the day, I enjoy getting in my car and driving it to school/etc.
This is one of the best videos I've seen in a long time! I just spent about 4 hours in the car driving from Richmond to nc and back and haven't felt so relaxed in a while! Btw nice edge from sheehy :P I bought my saturn there.
When can u do another life story blog? I enjoy those a lot. And I enjoy your car videos has well. Oh I forgot to tell u but I'm a officially a mechanic now I passed my safety test. :). I helped organizing tools today. Will be working on cars when everyone turns in their lab fee. :),
went for a drive today to my favorite road. Its 20 miles away but it was totally worth it. I understand what you mean completely man. driving is my escape.
Driving is the best way to sort out everything that's going on in your mind. There is no better feeling than just being you, your car/truck, and the open road.
what a great video! some of the best times I've ever had driving was going to McDonald's for a cheeseburger or milkshake at 1am lol its very peaceful driving when know one else is on the road
I agree completely, I love my half hour ride home from work, it gives me a chance to unwind. Hopefully I'll be making that drive in a new wrx here soon =D
Couldn't agree with you more David! I wish more people looked at driving this way! +1
everything you said i have thought/said/done, well except the depression. LOVED this video, all of it was so true
Works great as long is not rush hour or your live on a packed city. If you drive just before sun set is great
Even packed cities have some quiet neighborhoods, or you can drive out of the city, the lights, the noise and all of that
This perfectly describes me. Driving is my absolute escape from things. No man, thank YOU for creating such fantastic music. Thanks again!
Thank you so much, it's crazy the amount of support I am getting lately.
Thanks dude! Those are the comments that make me keep going!
I love driving! It's one of the few things I truly enjoy & am knowledgeable about. Very very well put. I'll definitely agree with you on that one. Thanks for watching!
I'm glad you see it that way too my friend!
I'm glad some people see it the way I do. Drive on!
A hand-me-down 2002 mustang gt. I was very fortunate.
It also helped that my Dad's mid life crisis was over. haha.
Awesome man, I think it becomes an outlet for a lot of us. Thanks for watching and sharing.
Don't close yourself in. Get yourself out there, it sometimes is the only way to get over things like that!
That's awesome man, I'm glad you shared your story and opinion. Thanks again Guido!
I'm glad it helped!
Glad to always help my friend.
Thanks dude! I'll look into it whenever I'm out there!
I think manual is also relaxing since you are kind of subconsciously doing it while cruising, but nothing wrong with auto it's just preference!
I'm looking into it. I might make a video talking about it so far.
Awesome dude! Yeah I got the Mustang from Richmond Ford, but all the rest of our cars for a long time came from sheehy.
Thank you kind sir!
I fill up my tank and just go for a drive on some back roads once and a while. Listen to the car and listen to some nice music, it is amazing. It's fun!

Thanks for watching and the support!
Thanks dude! And I know right?
Haha oh you guys. Thank you for watching, I wasn't sure how people would react to a little more serious of a topic.

I have a 2005 rx8 now but i had just as much fun driving around the city in my old 2001 accord always the best way to clear my head and feel happy and at peace after a bad day.
Great video David. I really agree with all your points, driving has saved me from so many situations.
I completely agree with this. I always go for a drive when I've had a bad day or just have alot on my mind. I've noticed it helps me think about things alot more than just sitting at home and doing nothing. Thanks for all of your videos and sharing your experiences. It means a ton.
Same here.
Very true words, after watching this video I decided to go for a drive instead of just waiting around on my laptop for an hour until my next class. Really like your videos, keep them coming!
As someone who's struggling with depression and anxiety, going out for drives is the only thing that can clear my mind and ultimately relaxes me

It helps for me, hop in my 08 Ford Fusion SEL 3.0 AWD, and hit some corners it works great.
Couldn't agree with you more. I didn't know how much I would enjoy driving before I started.
I take random cruises all the time, today I drove all around for 5 and a half hours, loved every second of it, never wanted to go home
I love your voice. And it's such a lovely message, too! Its 2am and this is making me happy.
Thank you! That's means a lot and I'm glad I could help!
Just keep making videos like this, I will be watching!
You got it! Thank you!
You're welcome :)

This intro is so in your face it hurts lol good video David! I always love watching your old stuff. Never forget where you came from!

You're up to 5k subscribers, that's very impressive man. I am still proud to say I was apart of that first thousand!
That's good man, soon I should be driving too. It's great to be adventurous and not boring like some people I know( old friends) always coming out with dumb excuses on why they don't want to go outside.

Especially on the german autobahn and our b-roads...Fluent driving, fully concentrated on my shifting, steering etc...Real driving...Greetings, Guido
Absolutely! Driving = Enjoying one's freedom of movement. Fortunate are those who live in/near areas with scenic, rural roads and good weather.
Well stated,I would try to get lost, doesn't work anymore....still drive aimlessly.very therapeutic!
Haha I just went for such a drive, came back home and saw your video :D
Awesome. Thanks! You're right :)
I'd give it a test drive and see what you think!
building motor and working on cars keep me calm and stress free and nice video
I didn't need to watch the video to already know my answer to the title: YES ! It sort of depends on the car for me, I hate cars that don't feel like they want to involve you, but overall there's no better way to escape from your daily life struggle than driving...There's a reason for my channel-name, David :)
I actually don't think about anything else than my driving while driving. I'm fully concentrated on doing what I absolutly love doing. That's why it's my medicine ;) Greetings, Guido
A good stab at the gas and curve are very therapeutic!
It helps me for sure even though I'm usually driving a 2000 Volvo v70 wagon and I take a similar route everytime.
I believe it's a great medicine. I have that car enthusiests bond with my car. Cruising around is a major hobby of mine.
Driving is the best way to sort out everything that's going on in your mind.
There is no better feeling than just being you, your car/truck, and the open road.
what a great video! some of the best times I've ever had driving was going to McDonald's for a cheeseburger or milkshake at 1am lol its very peaceful driving when know one else is on the road
i agree with you 100%! I love driving! Great video.
I agree completely, I love my half hour ride home from work, it gives me a chance to unwind. Hopefully I'll be making that drive in a new wrx here soon =D
I like this informative video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and observation about driving
