I just have to say, I love watching these videos. You are the most Un-biased person ever and it is awesome. I may be an Import guy but I love all sports cars. German, Japaneses, American. I even got my muscle head of a best friend to admit he likes my Civic lol I'm glad there are people who can appreciate all types of cars and the different qualities they have. Keep up the fantastic work man.
what got me started in the car scene, is a guy at my school, he has a s14 240sx. he was in my third hour and we got to talking about s-chassis, now ive been a Mopar guy but have been spreading my wings, and REALLY loving the s-chassis, to where im buying one in May 2015, just the other day, he invited me to go cruising when i get a s13 (the one i want) with him, in his 240, his bro in his turbo audi, and another guy from school with a '95 Cobra, im sure they know where some meets are, all it really takes is that first conversation
Id love to go to a car meet but I feel like most people would be douches. I know the basics of a car but not too technical, I feel like you have to be a car expert to go and talk about cars for hours. Im sure this isn't the case, but I feel like other people could agree that this is the kind of vibe these shows give off.
No you don't have to be an expert. The real experts at the car meets do not judge you for not knowing a lot about cars. The only way you will not fit in there is if you try to act like you know it all, when you clearly do not. Most car guys are pretty cool but you do have the occasional guy with the ego.
comgeturs No problem man! Love to see people taking an interest in cars and wanting to learn. Oh and another tip, if you go there eager to learn, you're going to make friends. Ask people about their cars, car guys LOVE to talk about their cars. If they say something that you don't understand, ask them about it. Not a damn bit of shame in that, and anybody who gives you crap for it probably isn't very popular.
Here is everything you need to know, dude.Look up your car online and see how much horsepower your car has. Let's say 150HP. Then open the hood and look at the engine, look at the words on it. "Honda 4 cylinder" or whatever. Whatever words are on it. Then when people ask you about your car say the horsepower and then say the words on the engine. "Ey b0ss whatchu got there" "Yo dawg it's a 150 horsepower Honda 4 cylinder" "Ey mayn pritty sweeeeeet ride I got a 200 horsepower v6 b0ss" That's pretty much it lol. The rest will come naturally. If you have your hood open and somebody is like looking at your engine and saying stuff about it you can pretty much reply with anything. "Ey b0ss sweeeeeeet alternator man what's it pushing like 150 amps bro" "Yeah man that's an alternator alright I love it!"
I know how you feel bro, just save up an be motivated. Go to meets and talk to people, tell them you have to share with your sis if they ask you what you drive. You will gather more info about cars and stuff every time you go, plus in the meantime you can save for a car of your liking!
Maz Amd I feel you brother, When I was 16 I got an old fiesta that sucked ass couldn't even get to 120mph but the worst part is that I had to share it with my sister for about 3 years, at my 20th birthday my dad game me my granddad's car, a 1970's Dodge challenger. Better times will come to you too!
Ik what u mean. I am 15 and have a permit but I have a plan. My dad is helping me buy a reg car, but I am also saving some money to buy a cheap junkyard car to build.
I got an RSX for my first car. I went to a Pizza Hut and a employee started talking about my engine and I had no clue what he was talking about. I went home, looked it up, and then I was hooked from there
Ryne wtf are you talking about? A base model rsx has a k20 engine in it. The type s has a k20a2 while base models have k20a3. It's still a k20 engine? And to say even the type a is somewhat powerless? The type s is 200hp stock. For a 4 cylinder thats top of the line power? You can fuck off now. You probably drive some shitty toyota or Mazda and want to talk shit about honda. Nice try though...
This video is BOSS. Anyone here in Mississauga, Ontario message me. Let's meet up this weekend whether you have a car or not. Anyone who hasn't gone before, I'd be more than happy to take you to our local car meet. Glad you made a video like this Dave. Its the ONLY video of its kind.
jordaaan86 Actually ERTEFA is huge and I've never had the time to go there. I should go though but i'm never up with dates and locations. I usually just hang around the local car meets. Let's do it some time this year though, I know its a huge event with lots of eye candy.
I remember when I was 13 or so I would go to the local car meets ( without a car of course) and my camera in hand and would just take pictures of every s15 and evo and everything in sight. Thank god now I do have my very own car. Its an mx5 ( not much but I love it) car culture is a very nice thing being able to form new friendships through a common interest just like with sports or something of that nature...
lol, I was too scared to take pictures. Actually, to this day I usually just talk to the owners and it feels awkward to take pictures. The only pictures I take are pictures of the meet in general.
Baron Chan Went to Annapolis in March. Have yet to go to Hunt Valley but I heard they have some pretty exotic rides up there. I'm in the Arundel Mills area so one morning I plan on taking that 45 minute trip to check it out
This was a great video and a good message. It's all about acceptance. Myself and two of my good friends do top gear style road trips once a year and we all drive different kinds of cars and have a blast. Mustang, cayman, Scion tC. Last year ozark mountains. This year pikes peak.
I'll be honest, I kinda dislike hondas. I don't mean to be hateful.. But I live near seattle and literally every fifth car on the street is a lowered honda with no mods other than a coffee can exhaust. It really gets tiring when all these loud cars get your attention but then disappoint you cause all you see is another civic that does 0-60 in a day and a half. but ill try to be more accepting…..
ill 3rd this, were i live near chicago all there is mostly is nothing but hondas with nothing more then a fart can. its not that i dislike them ive seen some nice hondas around my good friend is a honda guy. im more of a dsm guy but we have both worked on and owend both cars and like them one just appels more to us.but it is really starting to get annoying that when ever i turn a corner or im sitting some were and i see a damn honda lowered with the fart can and as xfezza said eBay rims going by with a shitty paint job or overly rice (srsly seen wooden wings and body kits seen semi lights being used as under glow -_-) but theres many types of cars here like this but mostly civics for some reason
Ahh but see you have a legit reason why you don't like them. That's different. You at least are somewhat accepting and don't go around telling people they are dumb.
Where I'm from on the east cost of canada their is barely any holder Hondas, they all rot away, but most of the ones lowered are actually well built. But we get our ricers as well.
nick billy in austria, the majority of the ricers drive with old fucked up bmw´s with 4cyl engines :D thats so sad, especially for me, a BMW and Toyota-Lexus/Nissan guy
I am quite an un-bias guy.. I admit.. I do at times joke about not liking Honda, but that's just because around here, they are very common. I like almost all cars for what they are.. I mean, I drive a 2013 Dodge Dart ( with a 1.4 ).. Why hate Honda, they probably have a bigger motor than I.. ha-ha
Scott Brixey I like it. Its not fast, yet, but very fun to drive. The model I have, the turbo is quite a peppy little ride.. Fun mixed with good gas mileage ..
Well, On the Hwy, I have not tested.. I do a lot of city driving.. I get on average 26-27 in city, rated at 27.. if I baby it some, I get above 28. I have seen 30.1, thats my best city.
Hey sir. I like the video. I can so relate to that. I just moved from South Dakota and I live in Colorado now. I didn't know anyone. But now I know 3 people that I always hang out with every Friday. I enjoy going to car meets and new people. You are right about every single word you've said. Be humble and respectful will get you closer to your car community and will learn a lot.
I get that a lot. And I'm usually a pretty humble guy. 08 Civic Si with a cold air intake and a tune. I want to turbo it but no matter what I take a lot of shit for it being a Honda.
AJ VanGorden I think you should turbo your si. because it is your car and your money and you do what you want with it. People should respect your car. I just stop listening to people like that.
ThatDudeinBlue Loving the vids dude! This one actually is good motivation to help me get involved in the local scene. I just recently bought an '09 WRX hatchback, and I found a local(ish) Subaru forum. They have weekly meets an hour away, and I've almost went to it twice, but chickened out once, and chickened out the first time when my friend backed out. Next time I'm just going to go! I'd love to meet some fellow car buffs--none of my friends except for one are into cars in the slightest. And the guy who is just crashed his FR-S today!!! Poor bugger (no one was hurt thank God). Anyways, just wanted to say thanks man. Cheers from Canadialand, -Clint
Go anyways, look at cars and get inspiration for the future, there is a few younger guys in my area that come out. Take the bus, ride a bike or get someone to drive you, just go anyways it is always a fun time.
David i want to say thank you, i had to find this video to comment because i usually watch you tube on my Xbox, however i want you to know you are an inspiration to me, without your advice and help i never would have had the courage to go out and find friends in the car scene, i feel like i can relate to you very well on the issue of being introverted and without watching your vlogs i wouldn't have found the courage to find some of the great people in my area who are into cars who have ended up being very good friends of mine so for that i say thank you and i will continue to watch your videos as long as you continue to release them :D cheers from California
Im still trying to find the Detroit scene. underground or not I just want to find people who love cars as much as me in my area. Woodward is always a good spot to find random spots full of cars. I dont want to have to wait until the dream cruise to find people but I will if I have to lol
Come around at Dearborn area or Taylor area. Some cool activity going around, especially with muscle cars. Plus Rob Dahm comes around too. If ya dun know him, RUclips his channel.
I live 5 minutes from Rob. But yeah dude, Woodward is always bumpin'. Dearborn is ehh in my opinion. Kind of a dumpy place. Facebook is the place to look. You'll find anything on there. It does suck though, so many people esp. The younger crowd are just assholes and douche bags. They'll say they like your stuff, and as soon as you turn your back, they talk shit. Ill love cars no matter what, but the people in the car scene, they're definitely their own breed.
Yeah I was rolling up an down woodward last night but maybe it was just too early in the season. I mean it literally JUST got warm up here and not even consistently yet lol....I'll definitely look through Dearborn and Taylor as well. I live in the city around 7 mile and Livernois so woodward is just closer and easier for me to access but I'll gladly branch out. Any particular/specific areas??? Btw ThatDudeinBlue you should try to come back here for the dream cruise this year! We'll all be on the look out for that mustang. It's hard to miss lol looks great!
I get you, man. My crew is 3 WRX's (bugeye, blobeye, and hawkeye), an n/a Impreza wagon, a Corvette LT1 swapped RX-7 FD , a slammed Honda Civic EF Hatch '91 with a rusted hood and all of our names signed on a fender, and a stock 99 Pontiac Grand Prix. The only reason we're so subie heavy is because all my friends went out and bought subies after I got mine, but that's not the point. When we judge people based on their cars, we miss out on meeting some great people that are super fun to cruise with. So n/a, turbo, supercharged, nitrous... 4 cylinder or v8's... hellaflush, slammed, bagged, stock height, donk, modest drop... loud, quiet, 6 inch can, or side exit... $900 car or $90,000 car... we're all out to have a good time!
When i bought my prelude i didn't know anyone or anywhere to look for help with it. I asked the guy i bought it from and he gave me some info on a couple facebook prelude groups. Everyone helps whoever needs it, its one of the best ways to find parts and an easy way to get involved. i thought i recognized your car when i first watched your videos, i used to live in chesapeake va and would see you in virginia beach sometimes.
What should you do when youre at a car meet? Sit in or around your car and wait for people to come by? Lock your car and go walking around and looking at other peoples cars and start a conversation?
hey david ive watched a bunch of you're videos and you are a huge inspiration. i want to thank you for getting me into the car scene next step is going to car meets and meeting people. i dont know much about cars and all that fancy stuff but i want to learn and watching you helps. thank you
ThatDudeinBlue and Subaruwrxfan are honestly my favorite unbias people around, whether they are doing it just in front of a camera, they know how to act around cars. Them both being car reviewers, i hope that both of them make their channels into a profession and help half of the worlds new drivers find a car to fit them.
Haha I'm a new driver and I actually took your advice to google the local car meets in my area and oh man.. Im so excited.. I just started driving and I cant wait to learn about cars that I had no information about! Thanks man! youre a real help haha
If only it was this easy, down in my area of the UK (Watford) there are literally no car meets, there's hardly a proper car scene at all in the UK which sucks. The only meets I'll be able to go to will be filled up with modded Corsa's and Punto's because that's pretty much all a teenager can afford in England.
I live near Watford! In fact I work in the shopping centre. The only car related thing I've been to is Autosport which was in Birmingham, I know a few guys with modded cars but the only meets I hear about are manufacturer/model specific. What do you drive?
I'm into classic American cars. I had a '32 Ford 3 window coupe, '31 Ford Model A (both fenderless hot rods), a '65 Chevy with a BBC and 4 speed. a chopped top '49 Ford with flames, a mild custom '52 Chevy and an original '63 Pontiac Grand Prix. The shows I attend are all pre-'65 shows so I can hang out with like minded people. I actually got started in the '70's, street racing in the San Fernando Valley. My daily, at the time, was a '55 Chevy with a 327 and 4 speed. My race car was a '65 Malibu SS with a 454 and 4 speed. The I graduated to a '68 Vette.
So im thinking about going to camber gang in ATL but I'm only 15 and no absolutely zero about any cars, so what should be my approach I guess? I'm just worried that people would prejudge because of my age so I'll try my best to avoid telling people how old I am, but I'm just kind of worried :/
I'm 15 as well I've gone to a couple this year. Honestly there's people younger than us there, don't even worry about it. People don't really care, everyone's there because they share a passion. HOWEVER I'd advise you stay away from night meets and go to a Cars and Coffee until you can drive yourself.
How do I RUclips graves this is to both of you, don't let your age turn you away from meeting people and hitting up the meets that are out there. Out here in ATL, theres tons of meets going on, the only thing I would say is to not be like the other drivers out here that try and show off by doing burn outs and trying to drift in and out of the meets, thats how they get shut down.....NEVER BE THAT GUY!!!!!. The youngest member in my crew "House Of Diamonds" is like 18/19 and he has one of the best setups around, not saying his is the best just saying it looks great. Hope to meet you both at Caffeine & Octane and Import Alliance.
Well learn about cars, lol. If you have a passion for cars the learning should come naturally but to get you started:Higher numbers are better, obviously. a 3.8 Liter engine and a 4.0 Liter engine, guess which engine is better? (There are exceptions to the rule but 99% of the time the 4.0 Liter is better.) 200 horsepower is faster than 150 horsepower, etc. etc. Start paying attention to cars. See a Honda Civic? Look, it's a Honda civic. Just start paying attention to and recognizing cars. When you get your car repaired, ask the mechanics about the problem. They'll tell you what's wrong and tell you the technicals. And of course the Internet is a good place to learn about cars too. Mighty Car Mods, Roadkill, and Scotty Kilmer are great channels.also by going to car meets you can learn about cars. when you start recognizing engine parts its a good feeling.
As you said, that the people that dont have a good car to back them up, most of the time talk crap. Thats simply because they are not car entushiasts. They just buy these cheap rustbuckets with fartcans to look cool and try to impress people. Dont listen to them. They are not worth your time.
Here in the UK people slag of BMW drivers, for me it's stupid, it's just a car make, hating on people because of what they drive is just crazy to me. We should allow everyone to stastify their own tastes. I personally wouldn't mind a BMW Z3, though as I say that I hear people tutting and saying "that's a hair dressers car" it's just so childish, what does it matter to anybody what other people drive?
I feel you on the first time going thing, first meet I went to after I slammed my Ford Fusion, not knowing anyone, I show up early and am walking around my car and this guy comes up to me and says "Why would you do that to a Ford" I turn around and looked at where he walked from, it was a 98 EK Sedan (complete rust bucket) so I laugh and say to him "Why do that to a Honda" he really had no reply which was what I figured would happen. But know I'm part of a team and drive all around SoCal going to shows and meets. Even took home a Best Ford trophy at a show a couple weeks ago in Downtown L.A. Was an amazing feeling! Love the videos brotha, and love the stang!
Depends. How old are you? How experienced are you with driving? The S2000 is an amazing car(I've always wanted one) but can be a bad choice for a first car. I have a friend who's crashed two different S2K's already.
If you have the money to pay for it go ahead. You won't regret it. Now since you might be a teenager don't get tempted to do all of what your friends say like "drift it bro" "floor it" "burnout" etc.... Other than being stupid about it. It's a good first cat
Very true video right here and your statement of, "those who talk trash and dont have the car to back themselves up" is also very true. I meet all kinds of people at shows or the track and from my experience, if you respect someone else, no matter what they drive, they will respect you as well.
I know what you mean haha I drive a lowered truck and everywhere I look on the net there is the usual "lowered trucks are stupid" but I have never once had someone tell me that in real life but im sure as soon as I left they probably were like look at that dumbass who lowers trucks haha I really don't care though I respect all custom vehicles and people even if I don't like the person driving a badass car I can admit they have a badass car its just the badass car has a dumbass driver haha.
I live in Richmond as well, there's this nice car center I go to that has air pumps, vacuums, car washes, etc... and at night usually on weekends you'll see the Richmond car scene. Usually just a bunch of teenagers in decked out Honda cars, lol
I love your channel ! , ive got social anxiety but I love cars I made myself go to a car meet because of your video's and I got invited to a highway run by the guy who was running the meet ... I loved it ! I'm in a stock Honda civic ek1 1998 but no one cares, my fears were not relevant at all it went way better then I expected and was really happy that they invited me along
Perfect example.. Went to my first midnight mayhem drag races down here is Vegas, I was a noob and I sucked.... But I had fun and learned a lot! I also learned the tune for my gt sucks and am getting it dyno-ed in a couple weeks! Thanks for posting cause I was craving and didn't know where to start...
You got this figured out! I'm a BIG muscle car guy, but I have big respect for the imports and tuners. I had a guy that did almost the same thing as that guy that asked you why you bought your mustang. I was walking by my 1981 Camaro at a car meet and I heard the guy say to his friend "this is a piece of shit". Yeah I got pretty pissed and yeah it is a bucket of bolts that needs some TLC, but that was just flat out rude. Thanks for sharing.
True video. I was once an import only type of guy when I was younger. As I grew up I learned more about other chassis' and have come to like quite a few models I never thought I would, The Coyote being one of them. You hit it right on the head with this one. Good stuff.
Ive always had an admiration and have enthusiasm for jdm, classic, off-road and muscle cars. My brother was the mechanic who I didn't grow up with but he knew everything and was in the scene. I don't know shit about cars but I've been slowly absorbing and obsessing over all this car knowledge and playing FH4. I bought my first car which was the r32 gts-t. I just look forward to making connects so I can start modding.
Hey Dave, very good video. I myself have started to get into the car scene, and I'm loving it. I don't know much about JDMs , and just about a bit about USDM as I grew up in a KDM familly, but I'm always up to learn and as you said, its the right attitude to have. I myself drive a KIA and just started this channel in hope to film some of the car scene around here in Canada/Quebec. Sadly, as you said, some people who are really bias will come up to me and ''deny my rights'' to be a fan of the scene because I drive a Kia, wich kind of made me find a KDM exclusive club and I think I will only tell what I drive when people ask me, as you do, good tip. As much as I'd love to meet you and some other of the youtube car scene in events, but I don't think that would happen anytime soon, it isn't the miles, but the budget and passport that restrain me. My respect to you sir for being so open minded.
I moved to Jacksonville Florida about a month ago, the first thing I did when I got here was go and buy a 2007 lexus is 350, I then took said car to a cars and coffee event and whilst I was there I became a member of the Jacksonville lexus club, we have meets and cruises every week and also associate with other local clubs and have a good time.
Nice video. Always good to get new people into the scene. To many people don't know how to get involved. I jumped in head first in 2008 and couldn't be happier. Now I know people all over the country and Canada because I made an effort. Now I shoot photography for a pretty popular car show website that also helps people find meets and shows.
i live in finland in this small town near helsinki, but even though there are only about 20,000 people living there, there are some killer rides over there. i mean, you see these tuned omegas and golfs, a couple of supras, sweet subarus and stuff like that. there is even this badass omega with a 450hp 2jz swapped in it! thats crazy like how that a town so small can have that many cool rides livin there.
Thanks for making this video, I know there's a Kansas City Cars and Coffee but I was nervous about going cause I didn't know if they would let a 16 year old with his stock Subaru Legacy hang out with all these exotics.
Another great video Dave. I'm a basic car guy. Although, I do love lots of different vehicles from cars, trucks to motorcycles and boats. To be honest I am a domestic car guy but I like a taste of everything. In my family growing up I've seen cars such as a 70 Boss 302,70 Barracuda,Datsun 240z,280z,Nissan 280zx,300zx,Camaros and Mustangs. The list I have is endless. These are just a few and by being around to see them and drive some of them I have a respect for all of them. Thanks Dave for keeping me aware of that. :-)
I strongly suggest going to your local Cars & Coffee if you want to get in the car scene. I went to Cars & Coffee Raleigh in my 91 Fox body not even knowing that we had a car scene and have been going to meets on a weekly basis ever since. Great vid man.
Sweet! I live in Fayetteville, I have my permit right now, I drive a FA5 Civic and when I get my license I wanna try to find a car scene. I might have to go up there one day and check it out!
+Elite47Productions There's a Cars and Coffee in Raleigh, Wake Forest, Greensboro, Charlotte, and Wilmington. As far as night meets go I only know of Raleigh and Charlotte having them. I'm almost sure there are meets in Fayetteville with Bragg being there and a lot of those soldiers having those muscle and imports. Plus you guys have the drag strip down there.
I love that im watching this to get in the car scene and you talk about my car. love it. Hyundai was a joke but the genesis models will be the new thing here eventually highly upset they stopped making the coupes in 2016
VERY TRUE!! i live out in ARIZONA and i found out about a local show and I went And still go every weekend !!! (for a year now) Love your car David and hope to own one soon!!
Great video - I have been a part of my local car scene since 2012 and it is awesome! In addition to your video I would say please don't be that guy who arrives or leaves a meet like a maniac with tires spinning and no control of the car.
I've seen what you mean first hand. I'm just out of high school (literally this week), and I drive a 2006 v6 mustang. Clearly a high school student isn't going to drive some crazy expensive or new car in most cases, but I really like my car. Anyway, I go to my local car meets some nights at Sonic and I really enjoy seeing all of the car diversity. There are even jeep meets on the same night as the mustang guys or the import guys, but being a bit younger it seems like I get treated somewhat unfairly in a lot of cases. Not to mention all the crap surrounding v6 mustangs. I wish more people had the mindset that you have.
My old boss has an STI and an 09 GTR and he hosts car meets a few miles away that I have yet to go to, but there are always these muscle car meets down the road a bit that have some nice rat rods and classics. It's usually the older men with older cars that are the most nitpicky with who they converse and share their car's secrets with.
My family is pretty diehard amcar fans, and so am I... Especially Mopar, yet I have always liked the jdm cars. I get to hear it every day from my brothers how much of a "ricer" my 92 MR2 (aka. the "Mario Kart") is! But what you are saying is true. The car tells a lot about the driver, and then both the car and the driver should be respected!
first i need my dream car but after that i have great connections, i live in a small town of about 200 people, im 16 years old, and i live 15 minutes away from a decent sized city. i grew up from the age of 4 racing so it was natural for me, suprisingly in my small town there are 5 drag racing families here most of which i go over and hang out in the garage talking about car stuff. so once i have my car i already have those connections and the rep to help me start in the car scene. oh by the way the car that i want would be a 2004 subaru impreza with a 2.5 ltr.
Good stuff, dude. You made a lot of good points and told it like it is. I used to roll with this car club in South Central PA and it's been awhile since I've been in the car scene. thanks for another great video. maybe if you make your way down here to Lancaster, PA you could check out how we do things down here.
This guy just earned a ton of respect on my part. He's absolutely right, there is not need to treat someone like shit just because they don't know or drive a different car. All cars are special in their own way therefore I respect all of them. I only talk shit when it's friendly competition but once the race is over it's all good. Car guys ,call culture we're all in the same family.
Don't worry about what people think of your vehicle. I had a dumpy little ef hatch that was lowered, I loved it to death. I have a built Audi A4 now and I still absolutely love Hondas. Build your car for you, impress yourself, don't worry about what others think.
You should mention how to possible get a meet started if there isn't one around. Gods know I am trying myself how to do it. Btw man your Vlogs are always fun to watch. One of these days man my meet is going to get big enough to get you down here. Especially if I get the racing events going. Hope to see you at the next Atl IA!
Such a great video :) Helped me a lot to know that you think like I do. People that have attitudes or have "know it all" complexes suck the life out of the scene. But the people that are nice and helpful make the experience memorable. Please keep up the great work, hats off to you sir.
thanks for the info i really appreciate it :) i hope to get into car events when i can get myself a car/truck and ive always been about cars ever since i could remember lol, but your vlogs are great and i really enjoy them and i look forward to watching the new ones that you put up. Keep up the good work from one car enthusiast to another :)
Awesome video man. Wish i lived somewhere with a good car scene. Here it gets below zero temps all winter so not exactly ideal for an outdoor car meet lol.
Excellent video :) As soon as you said use the internet, the cars and coffee my friend Dan talks about popped into my head and as soon as Google finished loading "another great way to get integrated with your car culture are..." haha
great video! i am an introvert and this is exactly what i needed to see. i need to get off my but and go to some of these meets. the sad thing is i know of at least 3-4 meets a week and ive only been to 1 once.......i hope your words really sink in cuz i have a fair amount of money invested in my car and all i do is use it to commute when its not in the garage...92 mustang...love your grabber blue mustang by the way! ive always wanted to paint mine that color.
I live in Florida, almost near Orlando. I've found a club for my car, but I don't know if they do Cars & Coffee around here. I miss having that when I lived in VA..every Saturday morning was amazing..the first time I laid eyes on the new Subie, Mclaren, and Ferrari F12. Man..I miss seeing those..even the crazy rare beauty's I've never heard of...those always catch my attention the most. I really miss Cars & Coffee..everyone is really nice and genuine there. Mainly..I miss the ride to Cars & Coffee haha..it was like a curvy mountain road for about 35-45 minutes of pure awesome. I actually had a GTR, Maserati Gran Turismo, and a F430 pursue me the whole time one morning..my little Toyota did not belong, but they were cool guys. WHY DID I MOVE!! lol..damn University that's why.
When you said something about the Cars & Coffee meet, We have one here in Toledo,Ohio every Sat. at like 9am,We have a local meet for College students(and anyone else that wants to come) at UT,funded by the University now, and another Local group called Caught Ya Lookin. The only problem i have is, i dont have a car that fits into the scene at the moment..
I showed up to an event in a 2013 Honda accord sedan. Raced it in the event, beat a few people too. No one gave me crap for it, they were just happy that I showed up with whatever I had on hand. It was a good experience. At least locally, car people are friendly people. They just want to have fun.
Great video, yeah its sad to see that some people call themselves car enthusiast when they hate on other peoples cars. True enthusiast respects someones ride no matter what car it is. I drive a modified Hyundai Elantra, and I get a lot of complements on my ride, but i stay humble about it, and i always respect any car that the owner puts his time and effort in modifying. keep up these great vidz
That Student Driver will be about it someday.
Thanks for watching!
Exactly why I'm watching keep up the great vids David!
ThatDudeIneBlue is ok.
You always make great videos. Love watching them. Nice Job!
would love to do a photoshoot with your stang sometime hahah
Im sure this video will help bring tons of new people to their local car scenes! Definitely going to share this video! Good job David!
Tj Hunt tj hunt?! I found a gem comment
damn t 👍
what got me started in the car scene, is a guy at my school, he has a s14 240sx. he was in my third hour and we got to talking about s-chassis, now ive been a Mopar guy but have been spreading my wings, and REALLY loving the s-chassis, to where im buying one in May 2015, just the other day, he invited me to go cruising when i get a s13 (the one i want) with him, in his 240, his bro in his turbo audi, and another guy from school with a '95 Cobra, im sure they know where some meets are, all it really takes is that first conversation
Thank you for your feedback. V8 RWD
comgeturs No problem man!
"Ey b0ss whatchu got there"
"Yo dawg it's a 150 horsepower Honda 4 cylinder"
"Ey mayn pritty sweeeeeet ride I got a 200 horsepower v6 b0ss"
That's pretty much it lol. The rest will come naturally.
If you have your hood open and somebody is like looking at your engine and saying stuff about it you can pretty much reply with anything.
"Ey b0ss sweeeeeeet alternator man what's it pushing like 150 amps bro"
"Yeah man that's an alternator alright I love it!"
As long as you arent the jerk who pretends to know stuff you dont, people will get along with you fine.
Aaah the struggles of being a 19 year old who shares a vauxhall corsa with his older sister because he can't afford his own. Pray for me guys
I know how you feel bro, just save up an be motivated. Go to meets and talk to people, tell them you have to share with your sis if they ask you what you drive. You will gather more info about cars and stuff every time you go, plus in the meantime you can save for a car of your liking!
Maz Amd atleast you dont have to drive a prius
TheBossGuy1 ^ BossGuy has a point could be alot worse
I went home, looked it up, and then I was hooked from there
I want an rsx so bad... What year you have?
I have a 2002
Ryne wtf are you talking about? A base model rsx has a k20 engine in it. The type s has a k20a2 while base models have k20a3. It's still a k20 engine? And to say even the type a is somewhat powerless? The type s is 200hp stock. For a 4 cylinder thats top of the line power? You can fuck off now. You probably drive some shitty toyota or Mazda and want to talk shit about honda. Nice try though...
And you don't even know if he has a type s or not? He didn't specify...
And yea you do, especially if he didn't pay for the car or buy it himself. Don't assume.
Ay Grimsby here!
Its all love bro. Ur kinda far but if u ever come around, gimme a quick shout.
heey bro I live in Markham ontario! I drive a GMC acadia tho lol not anything like a tuner or muscle car, more like a family suv lol.
I'm in Markham! Do you go to Ertefa? Never been but would love to
jordaaan86 Actually ERTEFA is huge and I've never had the time to go there.
The only pictures I take are pictures of the meet in general.
my dream car is a miata im 13
Dude 79 Corollas are sick!
If only the people were like you. Someday we will meet because i live in Maryland and i see a lot of Virginia guys at some meets. :)
The Maryland meets are freakin' epic. Flagship for the win. haha. I'm friends with Marcus and the KennyG evo I reviewed.
I'm in Maryland too :) Thinking about hitting up the big meet in Ocean City next month
ThatDudeinBlue hey dude just wondering where the md coffee and cars are, i searched google and it says annpolis and hunt valley...
Baron Chan Went to Annapolis in March. Have yet to go to Hunt Valley but I heard they have some pretty exotic rides up there. I'm in the Arundel Mills area so one morning I plan on taking that 45 minute trip to check it out
Royce Dash I'm actually in the Arundel Mills area too, and was hoping for somehting a bit closer!
Every Carguy should be like you dude
This was a great video and a good message. It's all about acceptance. Myself and two of my good friends do top gear style road trips once a year and we all drive different kinds of cars and have a blast. Mustang, cayman, Scion tC. Last year ozark mountains. This year pikes peak.
I'll be honest, I kinda dislike hondas. I don't mean to be hateful.. But I live near seattle and literally every fifth car on the street is a lowered honda with no mods other than a coffee can exhaust. It really gets tiring when all these loud cars get your attention but then disappoint you cause all you see is another civic that does 0-60 in a day and a half. but ill try to be more accepting…..
ill 3rd this, were i live near chicago all there is mostly is nothing but hondas with nothing more then a fart can. its not that i dislike them ive seen some nice hondas around my good friend is a honda guy. im more of a dsm guy but we have both worked on and owend both cars and like them one just appels more to us.but it is really starting to get annoying that when ever i turn a corner or im sitting some were and i see a damn honda lowered with the fart can and as xfezza said eBay rims going by with a shitty paint job or overly rice (srsly seen wooden wings and body kits seen semi lights being used as under glow -_-)
but theres many types of cars here like this but mostly civics for some reason
Ahh but see you have a legit reason why you don't like them. That's different. You at least are somewhat accepting and don't go around telling people they are dumb.
Hondas around here are done pretty well.. there's only a few questionable ones. Most of the ricers just get clapped out and scrapped.
Why hate Honda, they probably have a bigger motor than I.. ha-ha
I like the new darts! How do you like it?
Scott Brixey I like it. Its not fast, yet, but very fun to drive. The model I have, the turbo is quite a peppy little ride.. Fun mixed with good gas mileage ..
Well, On the Hwy, I have not tested.. I do a lot of city driving.. I get on average 26-27 in city, rated at 27.. if I baby it some, I get above 28. I have seen 30.1, thats my best city.
I love Hondas, actually I hate that people ruin them by painting the hood black and putting loud exhausts. But hey, is their car and they love them.
That's me with Ford haha. And Honda yeah, but I drive a Honda, soooo
I don't hate imports, just ricers.
And yes there is such a thing as domestic rice as well
Hey sir. I like the video. I can so relate to that. I just moved from South Dakota and I live in Colorado now. I didn't know anyone. But now I know 3 people that I always hang out with every Friday. I enjoy going to car meets and new people. You are right about every single word you've said. Be humble and respectful will get you closer to your car community and will learn a lot.
a lot of people make fun of me because i am a honda guy
as long as your not that Honda guy that trys to say they can beat anyone
I get that a lot. And I'm usually a pretty humble guy. 08 Civic Si with a cold air intake and a tune. I want to turbo it but no matter what I take a lot of shit for it being a Honda.
That's cuz Hondas are shit. (Obligatory hateful RUclips comment).
AJ VanGorden I think you should turbo your si. because it is your car and your money and you do what you want with it. People should respect your car. I just stop listening to people like that.
ohse mix don't worry I don't think that.
To this day this is still one of my favorite videos by you 2 years later. Nail on the head! You are awesome
I wish the whole car scene was like you man thanks!!
Cheers from Canadialand,
-Clint
I just looked up my local car meets and that stuff, then i thought about going there and seeing these awesome cars. then i noticed im 14 XD
Go anyways, look at cars and get inspiration for the future, there is a few younger guys in my area that come out. Take the bus, ride a bike or get someone to drive you, just go anyways it is always a fun time.
Yeah man, fuck your age. Go to these meet and events, its all worth it man.
Woodward is def the best place. It always is when I'm up there. haha.
Come around at Dearborn area or Taylor area. Some cool activity going around, especially with muscle cars. Plus Rob Dahm comes around too. If ya dun know him, RUclips his channel.
Haha yeah, me and Rob talk sometimes. Super cool dude!
Probably best not to poke fun at imports in that imported red GTO
When i bought my prelude i didn't know anyone or anywhere to look for help with it. I asked the guy i bought it from and he gave me some info on a couple facebook prelude groups. Everyone helps whoever needs it, its one of the best ways to find parts and an easy way to get involved.
i thought i recognized your car when i first watched your videos, i used to live in chesapeake va and would see you in virginia beach sometimes.
What should you do when youre at a car meet? Sit in or around your car and wait for people to come by? Lock your car and go walking around and looking at other peoples cars and start a conversation?
hey david ive watched a bunch of you're videos and you are a huge inspiration. i want to thank you for getting me into the car scene next step is going to car meets and meeting people. i dont know much about cars and all that fancy stuff but i want to learn and watching you helps. thank you
Nice vid David. Great advice. I needed this video.
Thanks!
You mentioned the Hyundai Genesis sedan. I have a first gen 4.6 and I love it.
Bro u have to do a review on the Mazda miata 1990-1996. I've been wanting to get one so bad. Also just found ur channel and its sick!
***** Working on one!
ThatDudeinBlue and Subaruwrxfan are honestly my favorite unbias people around, whether they are doing it just in front of a camera, they know how to act around cars. Them both being car reviewers, i hope that both of them make their channels into a profession and help half of the worlds new drivers find a car to fit them.
nice luv ur vids
don't stop making 'em
Haha I'm a new driver and I actually took your advice to google the local car meets in my area and oh man.. Im so excited.. I just started driving and I cant wait to learn about cars that I had no information about! Thanks man! youre a real help haha
Please find an rx7 and a nsx .. i would like to see a review from you of those two cars.
he also did a rx7
If only it was this easy, down in my area of the UK (Watford) there are literally no car meets, there's hardly a proper car scene at all in the UK which sucks. The only meets I'll be able to go to will be filled up with modded Corsa's and Punto's because that's pretty much all a teenager can afford in England.
the only big car meets in the uk are for 1960s cars and stuff.
Lord Pie You obviously missed Japfest! lol
I live near Watford! In fact I work in the shopping centre. The only car related thing I've been to is Autosport which was in Birmingham, I know a few guys with modded cars but the only meets I hear about are manufacturer/model specific. What do you drive?
Love the video David
one word to describe this vid...respect.
so much to learn in this vid...thanks dp.
Awesome video David! You make some great points and give some really good advice : ).......thanks man
mk4turbojetta No prob!
(There are exceptions to the rule but 99% of the time the 4.0 Liter is better.)
200 horsepower is faster than 150 horsepower, etc.
I'm a third generation car guy. Helped my older brother build and swap a V8 in his mustang this past summer. The concept of engines isn't new to me.
I just hope that he realizes that performance is better than stance... One day...
I wish there are more people like you that knows how to appreciate every car.
As you said, that the people that dont have a good car to back them up, most of the time talk crap.
Thats simply because they are not car entushiasts. They just buy these cheap rustbuckets with fartcans to look cool and try to impress people.
Dont listen to them. They are not worth your time.
Honestly the main reason I wanna go to a car scene is because I was homeschooled and never made any friends in my area
Stephen Dunn Yeah you tell them ;)
How can someone hate BMW? o.O
Jelly
Is a S2000(ap2) a good first car??
I know what you mean haha I drive a lowered truck and everywhere I look on the net there is the usual "lowered trucks are stupid" but I have never once had someone tell me that in real life but im sure as soon as I left they probably were like look at that dumbass who lowers trucks haha I really don't care though I respect all custom vehicles and people even if I don't like the person driving a badass car I can admit they have a badass car its just the badass car has a dumbass driver haha.
i love lowered trucks, and i love lifted ones, i respect both!
What kinda truck you got? I love lowered and lifted trucks
I actually own a 2010 mazdaspeed3 lol. Just was saying I love em!
Lancelot Moore-Yorke I'm about to get my license next year. Thinking about getting an 02 Ford f150 lightning
Thats awesome! I've never seen one in person. I know they're awesome!
I live in Richmond as well, there's this nice car center I go to that has air pumps, vacuums, car washes, etc... and at night usually on weekends you'll see the Richmond car scene. Usually just a bunch of teenagers in decked out Honda cars, lol
How to Get Involved in a Local Car Scene
Step 1: have a car
I love your channel ! , ive got social anxiety but I love cars I made myself go to a car meet because of your video's and I got invited to a highway run by the guy who was running the meet ... I loved it ! I'm in a stock Honda civic ek1 1998 but no one cares, my fears were not relevant at all it went way better then I expected and was really happy that they invited me along
its ok guys i make fun of MYSELF because i want an sti so bably but prob won't get one till like 5 more years.. :(
haha same with me, really want one too :(
Perfect example..
I had a fart can come up to.me saying ill pink race ur piece of shyt supra and I beat him but he did the ricer fly bye
Cool story bro...
Ohhhb gotta love the flyby
Haha
Ehh you probably didint want the car anyway unless you sell it on (www.ricer didn't flyby this time want the car.com )
Good stuff.
Awesome video ThatDudeinBlue. Really helped me figure out how to go meet new people and get myself out in the car meet atmosphere.
I like you David cause you're genuine.
Life changing advice... im on my way car scene... get ready
11:03 You just made me laugh to dead. I don't think I ever laughed that much. Keep up the good work bro! :D
Now I shoot photography for a pretty popular car show website that also helps people find meets and shows.
whats the webiste? I've been trying to find meets in the Athens or Atlanta, GA area and can't seem to find some. Any help would be great!
i live in finland in this small town near helsinki, but even though there are only about 20,000 people living there, there are some killer rides over there. i mean, you see these tuned omegas and golfs, a couple of supras, sweet subarus and stuff like that. there is even this badass omega with a 450hp 2jz swapped in it! thats crazy like how that a town so small can have that many cool rides livin there.
I love that im watching this to get in the car scene and you talk about my car. love it. Hyundai was a joke but the genesis models will be the new thing here eventually highly upset they stopped making the coupes in 2016
VERY TRUE!! i live out in ARIZONA and i found out about a local show and I went
And still go every weekend !!! (for a year now) Love your car David and hope to own one soon!!
Great video - I have been a part of my local car scene since 2012 and it is awesome!
In addition to your video I would say please don't be that guy who arrives or leaves a meet like a maniac with tires spinning and no control of the car.
Boston area is at Lars Anderson car museum on Saturdays! Come in anything!
The car seen here in Australia is very difficult to fit in with but this definitely helped me open my eyes to everything.
Hahahaha can't stop laughing when u demolished that guy!! D series with a fart can on the back hahaha classic!
I love the timing of this video as i am currently planning to go to my first meetup this saturday
Thank you David, this really rekindled the fire to go back and try and get into the car scene down here in florida!
Best advice for people trying to get into the car scene. Thanks for the video.
Havent had time to get on youtube lately...catchin up on all the videos. Like always Great Work David!
WHY DID I MOVE!! lol..damn University that's why.
great video!
Same thing happens here in my country, I used to own a e46 bmw and had the same problem as mustang drivers in usa.
I drive a modified Hyundai Elantra, and I get a lot of complements on my ride, but i stay humble about it, and i always respect any car that the owner puts his time and effort in modifying. keep up these great vidz
im a student driver that lives in VA not too far from Richmond! Will hope to see u next year at car meets around VA!
review an NSX!!
great advice man, this all applies to life in general as well. looking forward to a 2016 mustang GT video from ya!
