Context wise, this track is a masterpiece. The undulating beat, the tonal temperature of the track underscoring the mature, competent, professional secrecy of the corrupt executive offices, combined with the slow tempo and calming tones highlighting the "coziness" of the port when compared to the harsh winter storm outside, giving you an overall feeling of safety within the complex, but safety in a relative sense only, since the true predators are inside the port. The bureaucracy, the corporate politicking, the shady business practices, and the cutthroat administration is the true enemy of anyone who *isn't* part of the Normandy's crew.
This song captures all of the elements of story-telling that encapsulate Port Hanshan, and Noveria itself, perfectly.

Wonderful statement! I think that this also works very well with the Zen Architecture. It goes beyond expensive - this is opulence! Waterfalls making steam on heated rocks.... on Noveria?! Glass walls offer great views, traditionally - as well as exorbitant heating bills. Perhaps the tech of the future fixes the heating bills, but as you said, this song captures Port Hanshan and Noveria, perfectly. P.S. - I still dunno what a Nathak is. I assume it is the thing that ripped off Luke Skywakler's arm ;)

Noveria was the best part of Mass Effect 1, and might actually be the best mission in all of Mass Effect.

Unfortunately its Bioware "knew" how to make good an atmosphere with music. That was last applicable something like 14 years ago.

The best part of Mass Effect - the entire series. Every minute of Noveria was awesome.
Noveria was my favorite mission in the entire trilogy mainly due to its amazing atmosphere, crazy snow blizzard, beautiful snowy scenery, incredible soundtrack/ambience and great quest design. The Citadel has nothing on it and let alone Feros. You feel like you are on this corporate world uncovering mysteries of the galaxy. Easily one of the best and most memorable moments of the franchise. It felt so alive and nostalgic.
Feros is amazing for all the Alien fans out there tho (I'm one of them). I get so much of those classic 1979 vibes there - eerie music, architectural style, mysterious ancient terrifying alien organism - I'm LIVING on that mission
@@Li_Tobler But Noveria feels so otherworldly you almost feel like you entered a new star system. I never resonated that much with Feros unfortunately even though it feels very mystical but Noveria takes the cake because everything in that mission is just perfect. From the smuggling, to shady corruption of the companies working there, to dealing with the Rachni and to facing Saren's assistant. The music just screams mysterious. You can tackle the mission in so many ways while Feros is much more slow-paced in my opinion and kind of ends on the same note regardless of what your choices are. The whole place of Noveria feels so alive the minute you enter it you immediately feel nostalgic.

Nah they all great. Noveria, Feros, Ilos, Citadel and Virmire. ME1 has some rough edges but really charms with atmosphere.

This mission brings me back 12 years ago playing Mass Effect 1 in my dad's cold ass basement. The atmosphere in Mass effect 1 is truly amazing. I wished more games had that feeling
Times have changed, fam :/ they don't make them like they used to, and probably never will again...
Theres something about games like Noveria in ME1 or Skyrim, playing them as a teenager when the house was cold at like 1am in December that just made the games feel, almost real
@@RN-lo6xc Never say never - I am sure there are plenty of people like us who appreciate Mass Effect 1 above all other sequels and would be more than happy to pay for games with such atmosphere. Also I don't doubt there will be studios that will deliver such games.

Edit: looks like they are going back to their roots and focusing on dragon age and mass effect. They are currently working on the next DA game. Godspeed to them.

My favourite planet in ME1. There are so many elements to it, the mystery and intrigue, the calm interior contrasted with the raging blizzard outside, and one of the trilogy's best soundtracks.

@@SongokuJidai Actually there is at least one more that I know of. There's an Asari by the name of Mallene Calis who gives you an Assignment, Noveria: Espionage. It's hard to miss her as she stands right by the elevator hallway, which you run out of, as you make your way toward Lorik Qui'in.
Hanshan was such a cool hub, seriously needed 3-4 more quests.

I think this is my favourite mission. Got an amazing atmosphere.
It's a good mission because, by this point in the game, you've probably got some good gear and you're levelled up to the point that combat is more fun.
This has always been one of my favorites. That first time you show up and you keep hearing rumors about all the messed up things that go down on Noveria... You finally get your garage pass and find that not only is there a crazy blizzard going on, but there are Geth all over the place. So mysterious and awesome!
Some games are bad, some good, some great, but what stands out about Mass Effect is how it made me *feel*. It's something I will never forget.
The music is honestly the best I've heard in a video game to date. When I'm feeling bad, I listen to the song and think about driving my Mako through the snowy landscape. Greetings from Germany !
Like this soundtrack, Noveria is just oozes a cool mystique. It's my favourite mission in ME1 and the series in general.
Playing this during a cold weather gave me a feeling unlike any other.
That was one of those games where I didn't run too often to get to the next quest I usually walked and enjoyed be a part of this world.

my favorite port I make my entire gaming setup/ room to reflect the cold and minimalist style, from concrete walls to low temp in the room and blue accents and I love it. The atmosphere seems to really grasp most living conditions of most colonies that are realistic. harsh and cold

Thanks for uploading all these Mass Effect soundtrack ambience videos. I think ME is one of the most ambient games there is and I love just having these going in the background while I work or do whatever.

Cheers, I love that we get some new angles here! I've said it before, Noveria was a special place for me in the game, all the secrets, deception, and intrigue aside. Something about a an obscure location on a seriously inclement planet, somehow eking out a community and even some entertainment. And hey, after Shepard roots out the corruption and illegal testing, Noveria gets a new lease on life. Great location in the Mass Effect universe, and one of the best tracks.

This soundtrack kinda gives vibes like you have faced a trauma and walk on with pain, sprinkled with a tiny bit of hope.
The was the PRIME mood for me in ME. I just loved Noveria. The blizzards outside, the atmosphere inside, the mystery, the background music. Top notch.

Just beat the first 2 games in the Legendary edition. I played ME in 2007, but the only thing I remembered upon replaying was this station on Noveria, those windows and the plaza are just so memorable!
I love Noveria, but does anyone else find it too bright in the LE? The darker and gritty tone of it in the OG version seemed to fit it a lot better considering what's going on here. Especially since what's going on up in Peak 15 is straight out of an Aliens movie
Yeah I do. I wished they kept it as it was back in the original. Dark and gritty.
Good thing Bioware never replaced the creepy music even if it was overused. I love how it sounds. Fits Peak 15 and the Rachni so good.
i feel like a lot of remakes of games have this issue. for example the halo remakes looks good and all, but i feel like they killed the mood of a lot of levels by making it much brighter. kills the atmosphere a bit.

There's a mod on Nexus that fixes the lighting issues with LE! It made my experience 100% better.

Playing ME2 right now and this is set as my cabin theme.
i find this to be one of the most relaxing tracks in the entire game.
Port Hanshen was like being snowed in during a blizzard. The weather in the Aleutsk Valley felt a lot like driving through a blizzard - I remember coming out of a tunnel and the Mako shifted three feet to the right because of the wind. It was the first time I'd seen that in a video game, most videogames and TV with "winter" in them are made by Californians and it shows.
The lack of transport trucks and the Geth firing at me were entirely new challenges. Nothing Canadian about the Geth at all.

Mass Effect 1 has memorable music. Noveria is no exception. I loved playing this game even on next gen consoles.
Thank you for these uploads. The Legendary Edition one is more lively with more camera angles and npc, but I think I prefer the atmosphere of the older video.

Virmire is awesome, so are the Citadel: Upper Wards, C-Sec Atrium, Ilos: Archives. There are a lot of goodies in the Original Mass Effect.

I'm not sure if I like the subtle, but more aggressive background beat. Why mess with perfection?
Well in my original video I only had three songs playing which was wrong because four actually play in this area. So outside of better song transitions and that fourth song added everything is the same.

One of the best tracks in the game against one of the worst missions in The game. I hated Noveria, I still do. But this music is fantastic and makes the mission that less annoying.
