I've heard the questions "Do I love it?" and "Have I used it in the past 12 months?" said by many organizers. I can't make a cut and dry decision based on that because there may be something that for whatever reason I didn't use in the past year but feel like I still need to keep it because it is very likely that I will need it. I really like that you added question #3 "Would I buy it again?". After hearing that I thought I can take those items, pack them in a box, mark the box and store them on a basement shelf. When I need to "Buy it again", I can go "shopping" in the box in my basement. That way things I don't use often but still need are not taking up day-to-day space and causing clutter. Thank you for inspiring that idea.

Exactly! That one specific question is the precise question that I need to free myself as well as NOT have regret. The extremists in organizing often forget that replacing things can be a financial hardship for some people, but it’s also wasteful to the environment and in these days and times might require an unnecessary trip to a store!
I also like to use the $20/20 rule for decluttering- if I can get it for less than $20 within 20 minutes of my house (Amazon helps you cheat these days haha) and I'm on the fence about it- I let it go. Because it's not going to be hard for me to replace if I do end up needing it again.
I did a Subway commercial years ago. I couldn’t say anything right! Watching bloopers of other hit series may help you feel better. They all laugh and make the mistakes funny because they are together. When you reading/memorizing a script alone, there is no one to laugh with and you feel dumb. Just remember, even the best of the best make mistakes! You are so funny and sweet, I promise even you goof ups were entertaining!

Cas, yeah, you just motivated me to continue decluttering. My easiest task to continue on my trip is to do my sleeping room. And then there is the humongous task of clearing out the closet in the sleeping room. Y'know, I'm quite good at planning the project, but I regularily fail at GOING AT IT. Thank you for your inspiration. Oh my, it's just so easy to shove stuff into the closet and jamming the doors shut. And be scared to open those doors again. Cas, you deserve your TV show, because you come across so empathetic and like a down-to-earth person. I'd love to have you around my decluttering effort. But I couldn't afford that. I love decluttering most days. It is an on going cycle. I love watching hoarders for motivation and decluttering things on you tube. I suck with scripts as well Cass! I forgot all my lines as soon as I got on stage for my Theatre class! Way to go!!
I've always thought "If I saw this in the store today, would I buy it?" while decluttering. Sometimes something I loved in the past I wouldn't buy if I didn't have it in the present. Also, I compare it with experiences. The $10 I spent on watching a movie was fine and I only "had" if for two hours. If I spend $10 on a shirt and have it for a year or two it might be time to donate it if I no longer enjoy wearing it.

I just decluttered my daughter’s room and I donated like half of what was in there especially toys! Tons of bags that went to donations! It felt great!! 🙂

Great tips! Yes, I finally had to put my photos and photo albums into a storage container because every time I tried to declutter them, there would be memories and tears. I put them in a box and got on with decluttering the room. I don't know what I'll ever do about photos but ,in the meantime, the room is done. I can't wait for your show! I actually thought it started yesterday so this morning I was furiously going through my DVR thinking it somehow missed recording...lol. I'll be watching and so happy for you!
We took all our photos out of the albums and put them in photo boxes. The albums weren't good for them anyway because they weren't acid free. We went from a closet full of albums to about 2 dozen boxes. Yeah, they still need to be organized, but they're taking up less room.

You are so right about the stuff in hidden spaces! That absolutely is what's holding me back! I can't put anything away because all the closets and drawers are jam packed! I'm so looking forward to your show! You've struggled with disorganization yourself, so you understand what we're going through better than organizers who are naturally organized. Recently I've realized that a person needs to be either organized or a minimalist. It's almost impossible to organize a lot of things. And if you are a minimalist and you're disorganized, it's not so bad -- you'll find everything sooner rather than later.
I just had to watch your new show. I looked into Sling and Philo. I took advantage of Philo’s free trial. I was able to watch two episodes with my 15 year old daughter. We both loved them. Cas, you’re a talented organizer. You’re a natural teacher. You’re gifted decorator. I loved the results and you probably saved a marriage, too. Omg she described exactly what I do. I tend to wander off to put one item away that didn’t belong and end up with a dozen projects started, more clutter and nothing finished. Maybe with a box labeled “it doesn’t belong here” I will stay on track.

I am sooo happy for you with your dream coming true! I used to play your videos while cleaning daily (and still do sometimes!) I used to be in theater in high school! You can usually purchase episodes from Prime Video or RUclips. Sometimes you can prepay for the season and get all new ones when they come out.
We don't have cable, but we have Roku, Netflix, and Hulu. You can watch it on either of those.

I'm so looking forward to your show! You've struggled with disorganization yourself, so you understand what we're going through better than organizers who are naturally organized.
Recently I've realized that a person needs to be either organized or a minimalist. It's almost impossible to organize a lot of things. And if you are a minimalist and you're disorganized, it's not so bad -- you'll find everything sooner rather than later.

I just had to watch your new show. I looked into Sling and Philo. I took advantage of Philo’s free trial. I was able to watch two episodes with my 15 year old daughter. We both loved them. Cas, you’re a talented organizer. You’re a natural teacher. You’re gifted decorator. I loved the results and you probably saved a marriage, too. I really hope HGTV continues to give you a prime time stop. You deserve it. It’s real life, real challenges with real solutions anyone can try. It’s a wonderful show that the whole family can watch and get inspired.

Omg she described exactly what I do. I tend to wander off to put one item away that didn’t belong and end up with a dozen projects started, more clutter and nothing finished. Maybe with a box labeled “it doesn’t belong here” I will stay on track.

Not only do I love your Clutter Bug methods, I also love your honest personality. You have always been realistic in your guidance and delivery of your ideas. I love that you are realistic to us viewers and not a fake perfectionist acting like you always have it together yourself. I hope HGTV keeps your show going. I know our world is quite a long way away from it; however, it will be great when it’s safe for you to help people with their homes in person again. I am sooo happy for you with your dream coming true! I used to play your videos while cleaning daily (and still do sometimes!) I used to be in theater in high school! I have thankfully always had a knack for memory. This has helped much along the way.
You may just be a little nervous! I believe once you adapt and start to relax, you will do great! I hope this is encouragement!
