I mean… that’s a lot of bang for your $200. I’d say if you’re really money-conscious you should be looking for a pretty good discount on the iPad Air, or drop to the iPad 8, and if you have the money, get the Pro.
The thing is, it's only 20-50 bucks more than the Air if you want the 256 gb version because let's be real, 64 is not it. It's a no brainer
@@ares_76 Right. Or you can tell me you’re going to use cellular all the time and keep little on-device, but then you’re driving up the cost of the iPad package, making dollar amount differences equate to smaller percentages of the total cost. Yes, you’d be paying the 5G tax for cellular on the Pro, but it’s 5G; it’s better cellular. It’s obvious now why the M1 iPad Pro was not released back in September of last year: even if the technology were ready at the time (M1 with sufficient yields and availability + mini LED display for the larger model), the Pro would have been too good if launched alongside the Air. So then, what price would make me recommend the Air? $650 with 256 GB storage, or $500 with 64. If you gotta put up with not enough storage, don’t overpay!
+$100 for cellular model iPad Air I guess… still feels like a bad buy when the Pro exists. If you can both afford a modern iPad and to put it on your cell plan, you can afford a Pro.
You forgot better speakers, and more of them! There are 4 speakers on the iPad Pro (that are better sounding and play louder) vs the two on the iPad Air.
@@ares_76 But then it's 256 v. 128G, and more storage is more important than a faster processor(not to mention A14 is more than enough), so is a bigger battery.

Since they continue to throttle the iPad Pro series with a leak file management system and no pro apps such as Final Cut, the Air 4 is probably the way to go for most people. Great video.

Your comparison and presentation of the information is extremely levelheaded and unbiased in an overwhelming way. I can see the iPad Air 4 seems to be a little more favorable to you, but presented nearly identically! Great job!
Since I already have the new M1 MacBook air with plenty of storage that i will use for "hard core" stuff i think the air 4 will be a good choice for me
i have a macbook pro(not the m1 version) and an ipad air 4 and I LOVE it. it’s fast, light, efficient and perfect for what i need it to do
Apple aren’t stupid. A 128gb iPad Air would decimate iPad Pro 11 sales, so they skip that so the fomo makes you look at the pro. Good point about the keyboard tho - is that functionality worth choosing over stingy storage? Probably.
That's correct, that's why it only has 64GB and 256 GB option lol
I use my 64gb iPad Air for photo and clip editing with clients using Lightroom, and Lumafusion with Zero issues. I also use it for doing gfx design for client literature creation ect. You are WAY underselling what 64 Gb can do.
If only the air 4 had a 128gb option. The 256 is 750 dollars while the 128 for the pro is 800 dollars. Its hard to justify not taking the 50 dollar leap, but also hard to pay that much for an iPad
This is very simple, if you do a lot of art, photography, 3d modeling, go for the pro...if not get a simple ipad. You would be wasting a lot of processing power if you get the pro version and just want to go on Facebook. Pretty simple !!
I agree
What if it for notetaking, a little of video and picture editing here and there, gaming, Netflix-ing and maybe simple digital drawing? 😬 I wanted the ipad to last me a long time, at least til I finish college🤧

I love the colors of the Air 4. It seems like a great middle ground between the whole ipad line up. Well done. It is what most people would enjoy when all the gimmicks are thrown out of the windows.
Having been using iPad Air 4 64GB for more than 6 months. Pretty happy at using it as media consumption device. Works perfectly with occasionally work related purposes. I have tried using it for all my work related activities with the magic keyboard. Doesn’t cut it for me. Work flow and file management are 2 key areas where it kept pushing me back to the trusty MacBook.

I’d say waiting until WWDC finished until you buy is the best bet. But the AIr 4 is honestly not a great deal. 64gb is not enough and when you go to 256gb, you might as well go for the 2021 pro with the m1 chip, studio mics, 120hz, etc.
Great vid! I actually ordered an iPad Air 4 in Green and it's coming tomorrow! I love the Air's stunning colours and I already have a desktop already, so I will use my iPad Air for some light editing, note-taking and content consumption.

One more thing. One big difference between 60hz vs 120hz is eyestrain. I started to randomly feel headaches and migraines from looking at 60hz screens and 120hz is actually better. So not just gaming, but for reduced eyestrain. DC dimming vs PWM. If you have to go PWM (which most screens are), get high refresh screen instead. Eyes feel so much better!
Drawing on the 2018 Pro that I had and then going to the Air made me buy the M1 simply for the 120hz when drawing.

Yes, I agree on portability.
I got the iPad Pro 11 with the M1 chip at 128gb because the only other thing I have for work and personal use is an early 2015 MBP. The IPP is now my daily driver that I bring with me even when I commute, but for anything that needs a proper computer, I'll use the MBP. I also got the IPP over the iPad Air just for the M1 chip, in the interest of longevity and future proofing.
Exact same reason I recently upgraded. Been working off a mid2014 MBP for the longest and just wanted the extra power and portability. IPP2021 was the sweet spot
When you use faster refresh rate stuff, it's jarring going back to something that isn't. 60htz is still good, but I'll spend more to not feel dizzy 100%

I think spending ~$200 more for the M1 iPad Pro is a no-brainer. Spending just a little bit more gets you 120 hz refresh rate, M1 performance, 128 GB (compared to 64 GB), more RAM, better speakers, center stage, better cameras, lidar sensor, and it's more future proof.
And i don‘t think its a no-brainer.
yeah but if you don’t use all these things, it is not worth it cause it’s still 200$ at the end of the day. cause if you will never push this iPad and use all of its performance, or simply do some web navigation or media consumption, then you will pay for features you’ll never take advantage of
For me it’s a no-brainer if you can’t get by with 64gb if storage and if you are going to spend 750 for the 256gb air rather spend 50 more and get the pro if 128gb is enough
Love your videos brother, I’m a huge apple fan but I love how you let other people know that the super expensive versions aren’t always better!
I think this year, the 11” iPad Pro is the most bang for buck. You get 128gb standard.. any less is a dealbreaker anymore. 64gb is just enough for like 4 years of iOS updates and not much else.. the 11” pro I got is fantastic and well worth the extra money. The 120htz display is impossible to go back from and the air doesn’t have it.
Shit i was so prepared to be content w an air 4 because i want to use it solely for procreate to move on from my cintiq since its so bulky but this comment has me rethinking everything

Finally a reviewer acknowledging slower refresh rates aren’t that dramatic. Seems like every RUclips reviewer has super slo-mo eyes. I’ve switched between the two on multiple devices and find the difference, as you said, nice to have. If that.
Thank you for this! Some videos I don’t even watch as i know the content creator will push the more expensive device!!
6:06 The higher refresh rate is also great for writing, sketching and drawing with the Apple Pencil!
Exactly, it makes a pretty big difference. There is a reason why it's a feature that always gets talked about, no one says, "Well it's only 120hz for a refresh rate so not a big deal." Everyone highlights it for a reason.
@@piplup10203854 I think it’s a case of old man eyes not fully appreciating the difference

Ended up going with ipad Pro 256...if you don't want a 64 gb ipad air, it is only a $50 difference. Plus, I love having the dual speakers
I been back and forth today about getting 128gig or the 256gig m1 iPad 11 inch, with 256 i most probably won't need an external hdd for extra space so I'm leaning toward the 256gig to future proof.
I think Apple painted themselves into a corner by installing the M1 CPU in the iPad Pro. There's only so much tweaks they can do to iPadOS and still keep it separate from MacOS. Right now, for the average consumer who uses their iPad for media consumption, there's absolutely no logical reason to get the iPad Pro unless money isn't an issue.
This is absolutely true-- iPadOS is very restrictive so the power the iPad Pro's processor holds is completely useless in most scenarios
I think I’ll go with the iPad Air
Isn’t the pro screen a lot better ?
The Everyday Dad - You nailed it with that one comment where you said, "Nice to have, not need to have." That's how I also feel about the faster refresh rate on the iPad Pro. I also admit that the speakers on the Pro sound much better than the Air, but if I am going to listen to anything where I want much better sound quality, I will use a Bluetooth speaker or earbuds instead.
On the other hand the better rear camera on the iPad Pro would be a feature that almost crosses that threshold of possibly needing to have, I prefer a better camera sometimes, but for the most part, I use my iPhone most of the time for photos and videos.
Some might disagree with me, but I feel the extra $200 for the Pro is worth it.
You are getting -
1) Higher base storage - 128GB.
2) 120Hz ProMotion.
3) Brighter screen - 600 nits.
4) Face ID.
5) M1 - 8 core.
6) 8GB RAM.
7) Thunderbolt port.
8) Quad speakers.
You are getting quite some for an extra $200. If you don't care about any of these, you should be fine with an iPad Air.

I have to pay for iCloud storage so the storage on the devices typically are utilized for apps and any memory needed for pictures and documents are uploaded to iCloud or google drive for access across all my devices. To me the storage on the iPad is a non issue, I’m leaning toward the air considering I just need one for nursing school.
I LOVE my iPad Air 4. I use it at a desktop replacement. I love your videos but I disagree with one of your comments. I think the A14 has desktop power. My Air is faster and more powerful than my 10th gen I5 laptop which I gave to my daughter for college.

Much like hearing or any other sense, some folks are way more sensitive to high speed movement than others. Flicker, tearing, judder and strobing are all real things which many folks don’t believe are problems at all, merely because they themselves are aren’t noticeably bothered by them.
It’s funny that a lot of RUclipsrs comment on the 64gb size not being nearly enough. For the average person, this is more than enough space. I’ve never had an issue with space on my 64gb iPad Air. Especially as an iCloud user. Not everyone is editing 4K video on an iPad as part of our professional workflow.
The deal breaker for the Air is its low starting storage and no 120 hz screen refresh rate
Yeah with 128gb would be great, I understand promotion is a pro feature but 64gb for that price and only one possible upgrade to 256 is a joke
You can always have online storage too. Bit worried worried about the low refresh rate on the Air for drawing though...
@@lizzy108 The cloud is fine but sometimes is good to have storage on the device, for offline situations or apps you can’t download using that space.
So it is important to have space and 64gb is a joke.
In fact what you said of the refresh rate while drawing is what matters the least.
The 60hz on the iPad is great, not as good as pro motion but great.
The M1 chip is the key, and the more capable future iOS apps it will enable, particularly for photographers, videographers and graphic artists, eg, the full MacOS Adobe CC suite and Capture One Pro...
Another thing to consider that I’m not sure has been mentioned is that when you come to sell your device, the pro will fetch a higher price. Might help swing you towards the Pro.
I still have my 2016 iPad Pro 9.7. I was going to go with the pro, but after WWDC. I would go air. You know next refresh the mini LED display is coming to the iPad Pro 11 and I would want to upgrade again at that point. Did they even reference using more than the 4GB of ram in iPadOS 15? I think they put the M1 in the iPad Pro to get more value of on the M1 is chip production to reduce the number of CPU in the pipeline.
If you want a 256gb ipad Pro... just get the 256gb ipad Air basically... unless you need 120hz refresh or the lidar scanner
Thank you for this video. I am debating whether to get the Air or Pro. I love the Pro but the extra cost is a turn off.
So basically you did agree that 128 GB is the minimum of storage you would recommend. And since you can only get 256GB with the Air 4 the price difference narrows down to 50$ (maybe 100). And for that you get:
Better Screen
Twice the memory
Better Processor
Better cameras and Center stage
Thunderbolt 4
Better speakers
Better („studio“) microphones
120Hz refresh rate
And face ID
I don‘t know, for that price price difference it‘s hard to see hoe you can recommend the Air for the benefits the pro will give you today alone, not even considering how much more future proof it is with twice the memory, the (in multi-core) much faster processor and the generally higher resell value of the pro…
When it comes to displays, refresh rate is way more important to me than colour gamut. There are people who'd say "oh my god, how can you live without 110% sRGB?!", while at the same time they're happy with a choppy refresh rate. It's simple: I'm not photo or video editing. Colour accuracy isn't as important to me. What IS important is content _consumption_ , and a smoother screen makes everything just SLIGHTLY more pleasant. It's not earthshaking, but it's there.

I bought my first iPad in years about 2 weeks ago - went with the base model M1 iPad Pro.
I was going to get an air, but the base storage simply wasn't enough. I don't even keep a ton of content on my iPad - but downloading a playlist on RUclips for example - can take upwards of 50+gb.
My favorite things of the iPad Pro is mainly with the refresh rate, the better speakers, etc... but these aren't really game changers. If the iPad Air base storage was 128gb, I would have went that route. I like the colors a lot.
I haven't had an iPad for years - and the only accessory I have is an Apple Pencil. It's great for note taking + media consumption. I've always had the cheaper iPads, and this different form factor is nice.
Battery life kind of sucks. I guess I'm spoiled by the M1 air I have :(
Of refresh rates, speakers etc. Don't matter to you, why couldn't you have just bought the 128 gb model of the iPad air 4😎
@@rishiwadhwa4374 because there isn’t one, it’s 256gb which is overkill for me. $749 vs $799, and for that $50 I’ll take those things that mean more than the extra storage
@@lightsy2010 oh thanks... Wasn't aware of that😀
I’m going with the Air no doubts. I don’t need all the pro stuff I’m only going to use it as a notebook 😂 so yeah 64 GB is fine for me
LMAO omg thank you, this just helped me make my decision too bc I’m only going to be using it as a notebook too
@@hell_inn0258 argh, me too though,, I will only use it as notebook
But just for a little edit on the video will be sufficient right ? I mean the storage 🥺🥺
Help I watched the whole video and got to the end and I was like “wait what?”
I'd say that if you can afford it.. The iPad Pro is the better deal and the smarter one to get, mainly because of the M1 Chip inside.. It may not be evident now, but 3-4 years in the future, the M1 Chip is going to noticeably outperform the A14 Chip so you'd be less likely to spend money and upgrade sooner..
I’m waiting for the iPad Air 5 with 5G. Hoping they keep the finger print sensor though because it is my favorite feature. I mainly read and watch movies at work sometimes stream my Xbox to it when I have a good internet connection but just started that. My iPad 6th gen doesn’t do that well in the light and glare of my security booth so any upgrade would be great but want that 5G connection.
Not likely keeping fingerprint unfortunately.
Came out today !
Very useful and informative video. I appreciate your straight talk on these.
The iPad air 4 is $749 for 256gb and the M1 11” iPad pro is $899 for 256gb which means there is a $150 difference not $200. And for $150 more you get 120hz pro motion, dual cameras, flash, lidar, way more powerful M1 chip, four speakers, Face ID and all the TrueDepth camera features (memoji, etc), better 12MP front camera with ultra wide and center stage, etc. so yeah $150 can be worth it
120hz vs 60hz on daily app is huge difference. You don't need to be be a gamer to notice. The guy said the refresh rate is meh, and I googled it to know that it is 120 vs 60. I can probably be fine with a 64tb laptop, but it won't be enough for a tablet.
I get what you are saying and i know a lot of people that dont notice the difference between 60 and 120hz. But almost everything I use on a daily basis has at least 120hz (phone, laptop, pc monitor, includibg my ipad) if I now use sth with 60hz it feels broken to me. So if I get a new ipad i really cannot go back to 60. And i would say that most people that are used to 120+hz would agree.
At this point I have to assume it was cheaper for them to put an M1 into the iPad Pro then any other chip. I guess they have mass produced it to the point it’s just cheap for them to use it. Don’t be surprised if we see an iPhone pro with an M1 this fall.
A very, very good comparison and recommendation. Subscribed!
I have the iPad 8 but I’m going to upgrade due to audio output. I’m going to buy the iPad Pro: ram, future proofing, and base storage.
Him downing the 120 hz refresh rate is kinda a joke lol. I was gonna buy the air, and at the apple store it was disgustingly obvious how much different the pro was. The air looks exactly like the same screen as the 6th gen base model ipad from 2018. That was the tipping point towards the pro for me.
Want to see if the Air 5 improves on this. Otherwise I’m getting the current Pro - don’t want to wait until autumn for the next one.
The m1 was faster by 70-100% in a lot of situations like gaming, video and photo editing and even storage is faster
i'm just going to get a refurbished ipad 11" ipad pro from 2018. for me the refresh rate is pretty important. having grown accustomed to a 240hz monitor for my PC and doing a lot of drawing and animating on it, i can't imagine using a lower refresh rate monitor for art. i'm sure i could get used to 60hz if I use it, i'd rather save $200 and get an older pro and put those savings into getting a pencil
The reason why you pay more for the Pro, is not because of the hardware, because the hardware is virtually the same. Why someone would pay more is for the experience. The M1 iPad Pro is just much more snappier than the iPad Air. The animations when switching apps is just smoother. Gaming on the M1 iPad Pro is more enjoyable. Last, the screen is slightly cleaner than the iPad Air screen.
I'm so disappointed we didn't get FCP for iPadOS nor the new MBP at WWDC. Doesn't make sense why anyone would choose the 11" Pro over the Air since we still can't take advantage of the extra horsepower in the Pro. 😔
Get the air and save money for another thing. Air can also do what pro can do
iPad Air is ok but no Face ID and the position of the Touch ID sensor is not convenient. And for about the same price as the Air 256, you can buy an entry level Pro M1. With the cloud, 128 is more than enough for most people. That’s why I chose the Pro.
I went with the Air 4, just felt for what I use it for the pro would be Overkill…which the Air 4 is as well I’m just a basic user so much so I don’t need a keyboard or apple 🍏 pencil ✏️ but it’s nice to know if I ever decided to get one I can, kinda why I got the Air because of the features it’s a tablet I can grow into
I also bought the Air 4, but I bought it in April 2022, a month after the iPad Air 5 was released. I still decided to go with the previous gen Air because I am moving up from an iPad Mini 4 which I have had for 5 years, and this is still a major upgrade and leap forward from what I have been using for a few years. Plus the new Air 4's are on sale regularly for $100 off. I agree with you, for me to buy the iPad Pro would be overkill.
Still holding onto my iPad Air 2 lol all I wish is if only it supported Apple pencil.
I have iPad pro 2018 and I love it it’s still the best
When did you buy it?
I know you’re using the 11” iPad Pro for the comparison, but why not use the 12.9 model for a visual aid instead of the box?
High refresh rate is the deal breaker for me , the difference is night and day . I'm using 240hz and 144hz monitors all the time.
I have iPad Air for 6 months now, still beast, for me if you just use iPad for basic tasks and wondering the budget pick IPad Air. But if you are professional artist looking for advance features and more budget, pick M1 IPad Pro
