Just made this, I doubled the recipe because your other energy ball recipes are really delish. VERY VERY GOOD! This is a must try. The sesame seeds coating gave it a texture and taste which gave it a different flavor that made it like an Asian inspired treat. Thank you very much for another healthy and tasty recipe.
👏 I’m so glad you loved them and trusted my recipes enough to go straight into a double batch 🥰 thank you so much for letting us know you’ve been loving the energy balls and appreciating healthy snack recipes! Enjoy!
Kathryn these Chickpea Tahini Protein balls look 😋😋😋. Another awesome video and thanks Kathryn & Bryan for sharing this recipe. Love 🥰 the video and love 💓 Kathryn & Bryan.
I can’t wait to get in the kitchen to make these with my daughter. I think our entire family will enjoy these. I love ya’lls channel. The way you two work together on these is beautiful! Keep up the great work. I appreciate you both.
Oh thank you so much! This is so nice to hear ❤️ we love that you’ll make these with your daughter and think everyone in the family will like them. We appreciate YOU watching and supporting us to keep creating more content!
My parents love energy balls. They're in their 80s and Dad takes a few with him to golf and tells his mates about how they stop him from feeling totally exhausted after. He's tired but not shattered. So I'm looking forward to making these, just need to buy more dried chickpeas as I used up my last lot yesterday!
Oh great! They definitely help you keep going so I’m glad your dad loves them and finds them easy to pack for golf. Let me know how you like these when you try them! You could use black beans and add some chocolate or white beans too if you have any others on hand 👍🏼
@cbear8150 no I didn’t mention the macros. I quickly punched this recipe into a free app I have called “cronometer” and it estimates each ball has 3.5 G protein, 8.2g carbs, 7.7g fat. If you wanted to boost the protein more you could use a ground seed instead of some oats.
Hmmmm thanks guys . Happy you are using dates. Less processed than maple syrup. I make a date paste and store in freezer and use as needed. Thanks for the recipes. I cooked dried chickpea this morning ❤❤❤❤❤
Oh great! And yes you can definitely just use dates or your date paste and omit the maple syrup. I guess as Canadians we are partial to adding some maple syrup 😛 I should maybe mention that we always use 100% pure maple syrup and not the options that have some corn syrup added to them but even so… dates are the best option 👍🏼
love your fresh vegan recipes , just discover you and Brain, I am From AUCKLAND NZ and for quite a few years Vegan ❤ You got any Muesli Bars recipes that you bake, prefer oats to bake
We’re so glad you found us! NZ is definitely on our travel bucket list! I haven’t a crunchy peanut butter granola that has oats and is baked. Here’s the link to the video: (ruclips.net/video/tz3i3s3S9hE/видео.htmlsi=m8xrHQ7hmUqSZ4vK) you could try and make bars with it! You might like these baked breakfast cookies too (ruclips.net/video/wwhup5EZ32E/видео.htmlsi=BCyt7ShDLKPOn_VK).
Yum. A must make. I love adding chickpeas to my smoothies and ninja creamii ice creams. They make them so satiating. I am gonna give these a go. Would date syrup work instead of maple syrup as I dont buy maple.
We add them into smoothies too (usually from frozen so they’re like little ice cubes). The ninja creamii’s seem so cool! I haven’t heard of anyone adding chickpeas to them so that’s awesome. You can definitely use date syrup! Any liquid sweetener will work for sure 👍🏼
Neat idea for protein balls. After watching, I feel like black beans could make a good protein ball too. With flavors like chocolate, coffee, plus maybe spices like chile and cinnamon
Absolutely! Those sound like great favour combos. I’ve used white beans before too and often use black beans in baked chocolate desserts but they would be perfect paired with chocolate for an energy ball (some nut butter would help hide the bean flavour too).
Haha great! You could probably use something like sunflower seeds too but I haven’t tried that in these. Let me know how you like them when you give them a try!
Absolutely! That would be great. You can swap some of the oats with seeds for sure (or just add a bit more moisture if you need it with the addition of the seeds) 👍🏼 let me know how you like them!
I used to be the weirdo with a spreadsheet, logging the cost per 1000kcal of various foods. I don't do that anymore, mostly because when I calculated the cost per calorie of vegetables...I didn't eat veggies for a couple years. General patterns like cooking beans from scratch works well. I also need to use my food processor more, I'll try to remember these.
Haha yes I could see that being the case. I use a free website called “cookkeepbook” to price out all of my ingredients and recipes. A food processor was definitely a worthwhile buy for us. It makes it a lot easier and quicker to make so many plant based snacks and dishes (falafel from scratch for instance or veggie burgers).
I think I need to take longer hikes. I usually just need water😂 However, I work with amazing students with autism and often need something I can eat quickly. These would be perfect! Thank you so much. I love your channel😊❤
These look excellent! I'm prepping (soaking) the chickpeas. Tomorrow, I get all Mad Scientist with it. “Can't help myself.” I used to make energy balls with chocolate, coconut, chia seeds, peanut butter. I'm combining the 2 recipes. Can't help myself.🎉❤
These protein balls look delicious and I can't wait to try them however I'm not sure if I would like the taste of the tahini so I'm thinking about using either PB or almond butter. Do you think either of these would work? Also what is the flat pan you used when you toasted the almond slices? Is it a carbon steel tortilla pan? Thank you so much for your wonderful videos ❤
A nut butter will definitely work. I prefer peanut butter too. I’ve gotten more used to the taste of tahini in snacks and in our morning oats actually but my heart is always with peanut butter 😝 and yes that pan is from a line called “The Rock” from “Heritage” I think it’s their 10” frying pan. It makes a great crepe pan and has held up well for me. In Canada they are sold at Canadian Tire but if you’re located elsewhere I think you should be able to get them online.
i wonder if toasting the oats would be beneficial for flavoring, and someone made a comment below about it tasting somewhat Asian. Maybe it would taste even more Asian if the sesame seeds were toasted as well for a more savory taste, or a combo of toasted and raw, or maybe the idea of toasting the sesame seeds is too strange. 🌿
No not all! Definitely toast the sesame seeds to boost their flavour. You can do it the same way I toasty the almonds (just on a dry pan over low heat for a few minutes). No harm in toasting the oats either! I haven’t tried that but I’m sure it would add a bit more flavour too 👍🏼
Haha definitely a little crazy but I think you’ll like it. Think chickpea edible cookie dough lol. (You can add in chocolate chips if it helps 😛). And I know right?! I think you have -25 C today and it’s 5 C here! Wild.
YUM! That sounds like a GREAT idea! If you try this you will definitely have to let me know how it tastes! …now I want to make another batch and dip them in chocolate 🤣
You can definitely skip the oats and add more nuts, a nut flour like almond flour or seeds. Toasted sunflower seeds, sesame, or something like hemp seeds work well if your stomach tolerates them 👍🏼
I don’t see why those wouldn’t work. If he can handle seeds you could use any toasted seed as well (sunflower, sesame, pumpkin). Hemp seeds are pricier usually but they would work as well. Pine nuts are always more expensive for us so the taste will be a little different with an alternative but if you can save a bit then feel free to use something other than nuts (even extra oats).
Definitely! You could use almond flour or just use more nuts or seeds (like sunflower, sesame, or pumpkin) and omit the oats. Chickpea flour tends to taste better when cooked so I would probably lean towards nuts or seeds first. Let me know what you try!
They look good, but my concern is they seem like a huge glucose spike. Between the maple syrup, the dates, oats, that’s a lotta potential sugar per ball. However, looks like a good recipe and possibly give it a try. Thank you for the video.
I quickly calculated the macros per ball for you using a free app called “cronometer”. 3.5g protein, 8.2g carbs, 7.7g fat. @@TastyThriftyTimely Appreciate the recommendations and response. True about the dates as they are high in fiber. Will give it a try! Thank you and keep it up!
This looks like it was an AMAZING hike! 😀Oh my god, the scenery looks to die for. Glad to see the balls kept well on your journey out! You *sure* you wouldn't want to try having the tofu meat out there? Less mess to clean up back home... lol ;-) How far is where you trekked to from your apartment? Is that swing just... in the middle of the wilderness? 😲
Haha the tofu meat would definitely be a little harder to take along 😝 and ya there are swings in surprising places all over the island (mountains, beaches lol). This one is at a lookout at the top of this hike and it’s not too far from us. 15 min or so. There’s so much beautiful nature to take in right on our doorstep here.

These look fantastic. But how do you stop at just one or two?
Haha that’s a good question! Maybe only packing one or two is the trick 😜 … and wanting them to last a few days lol
Looking forward to trying these this week. Same here for me with swings - they my me dizzy, but I can't resist them. :)

Raw grains are incredibly difficult for the gut to digest. I normally skip the oats. The nut powder keeps them together.
